Thanks so much guys. The latest updates are that my family got to go into town (along with some 2000 other folks) to get essentials from their houses, so both sis and her fam, and our parents have their essentials, and other valuables that they could gather in time (and my nephewās hamster), and both reported that thereās no damage to either house. There are some cracks on the outside of my parentsā house, but they donāt seem to be more than surface damage, at least from what my parents could see.Ā
As for the town itself, thereās a crack thatās going through the entire town, and the entire west side of the town has sunk by around one metre. So, thatās an interesting development, and the danger isnāt over yet. But, the scientists are sounding a bit more optimistic that there wonāt be an eruption inside the town, although it has not been ruled out completely.Ā

Iād recommend having essentials packed for a āgrab & goā evacuation scenarioā¦ Or have them all leave now for a six month Spanish holiday.

Just to keep everyone updated, as of now (23:38 GMT) parental units are staying with my Nuncle in the capital (where I also live) and baby sis and fam have invaded her brother in lawās house for the night at least, in another township in the metropolitan area. So, they are all safe at least for the night.Ā
And the authorities have put out an evacuation order for the whole town of GrindavĆk, for the night, and then it will be reevaluated in the morning. They are expecting an eruption at any moment now, and apparently the fissure that seems the most likely to erupt at this time could potentially reach all the way underneath the town.Ā
So, just keep everyone in that nearly 4000 person town in your thoughts, thank you.Ā

Holy shit, baby! And here they were so optimistic that the lava flow would not travel towards Grindavikā¦
Iām glad everyone is safely settled for the night!

BronxWench got a reaction from Wilde_Guess in well my laptop sucks atm. i visit certain sites and the internet goes in and out. can
@Wilde_GuessĀ Iām obviously showing my age here as well, but all my home desktops (4 of them plus two floating connections) are hardwired, as is my daft oneās desktop at our summer cottage. My laptop connects via wifi here or at the cottage, and is new enough not to have issues like my old one did.
@Desiderius PriceĀ The daft one likes his own router rather than the preconfigured ones the cable company supplies, and given his background in electronics, heās remarkably adept at making all the cat 5e cables and connections we could possibly need. Ā

Hi, @Desiderius Price.
I understood her to be saying that the equipment was all in the basement, and that when she used her parentsā office on the first floor that she was one floor over it, where she was normally (presumably) on the second floor or higher.
As far as that goes, while having a separate cable interface and router is still quite possible, you donāt really see it anymore in an āordinaryā home environment, and I havenāt seen it that way in an ordinary home environment in over a decade.Ā Ā

@Wilde_Guess Youāre now referring to my setup as ānot ordinaryā, showing my age as Iāve still got them separate.Ā (ie, donāt want the cable company controlling that bit running my internal home network, just give me that internet connection, Iāll manage the rest).Ā Got a 100ā bit of ethernet cat 5e running between my living room switch (where my modem/router are) and my bedroom āhome officeā switch, itās almost all wired, though the phone uses the wifi.Ā Been meaning to sink the cords into the wall, but havenāt, so itās fairly loose (though got staples over it to keep it in place).
@kagome26isawsome Distance is bad when it comes to connections (1/distance^2).Ā So is stuff because itāll degrade/block the signal, the bigger the more of an obstacle it becomes.Ā (Metalās worse than wood.)Ā Thereās also limits on how much a wifi connection can do, so too many devices might be degrading, and the closer devices with stronger signals will āwinā in a contest.Ā Wires, though others frown on them as āobsoleteā are usually better for going the distance and being āstableā ā well, unless the squirrels start chewing through them.

so update: i can access fu and have no issues if i am in my parents office which the spectrum equipment is right under my feet (in the basement) so i guess it was a signal issue or still the site. but no issues if i am in the office. still gonna look into your guys suggestions so thanks!

Like @BronxWench suggested, the problem might be more with the site or your router.
While Iām not personally impressed with Lenovo, they arenāt necessarily horrible.Ā With the computer itself being only two years old, and with others in your house having similar problems, Iād hold off on buying a new adapter, or if you buy it, I wouldnāt open it right away.Ā If you bought it but didnāt need or open it, you can always take it back to the store for a refund.
If others in your house are having problems, the first thing to check is the āfirst common denominator,ā which in this case is the router or internet connection itself.Ā So, I would concentrate on that as a first step in troubleshooting.Ā The router itself might need an update, or there is a chance that the router itself is starting to go south.Ā Routers tend to last for a long time, but they can go bad far sooner than average just like anything else.
Two years old is (or should be) new enough that you can run the latest versions of the Chrome OS and browser.Ā You might want to have both the computer itself and the browser (if Google makes you update the Chrome OS and Chrome Browser separately) check for updates.Ā But make sure youāve backed up your stuff first.
Good luck.

@BronxWenchĀ there is no error messages i get when i go on Fubar. the wifi just tries to reconnect.Ā
@Desiderius PriceĀ i am in the living room at the moment but havent been on the site yet. the modem is right under me. it might be hard to run and ethernet cable from the basement to my room. the house is build weird and we would need a long, long ethernet cable.
Ā
ill look into a usb wifi adaptor. maybe that will be the best thing at the moment. and of course this little issue is giving me ideas for a story! lol. go figure
