I remember reading her works years ago and enjoying them to the same extent I enjoyed the original books. I think my favourite was the one where Hermione found out Snape kind of stole a daughter from her and was raising her on his own. It was my first major exposer to fan fiction and to erotic literature in general and an integral piece of how I got into writing. I can only hope that through her works she continues to inspire others as I had been those years ago and offer condolences to her family and friends.

I will ask that users not make reference to archival services which may host stories without the author's approval or consent. The author holds the ultimate decision regarding the story in question, and we will not aid and abet in dissemination outside the author's wishes.

It's a splendid rant, but unless you give me something more to go on, I can't tell you why a particular story was deleted.
I will tell you that we wrote our Terms of Service in plain English, rather than in the legal gibberish most sites use. Go read there Terms of Service, and then read ours. We're not trying to be obtuse about what we require. We also try to make our review board warnings and email warnings very clear. We want people to understand HOW to fix an issue, because you're right about one thing. We're a fiction archive and we want to host fiction.
But we don't censor here. I've defended the right of authors to post things that I personally find utterly repugnant, as long as that story abides by the site's rules. I've had to review stories during my weekly sweeps that are so poorly written as to make my brain ache, but those stories remain on the site as long as they abide by the site's rules.
Do you see the common theme here? It's not about what I like, or what any moderator likes. It's about following the rules. If you're having an issue with following rules, then you are going to have a very unhappy life, because being an adult means following rules.
Now, if you;re ready to be an adult, please let me know what story is deleted, and we'll act like adults and discuss it rationally.

As to story deletions, the only one who does that is actually ME. I only delete if the story has been hidden for over 30 days, and author refuses to comply with the site rules. Note that word again. RULES. Specifically, I delete stories for the following reasons:
The author is under age The author is posting someone else's work. You know, plagiarism The author refuses to comply with the Terms of Service, and/or the Content Guidelines (which are a subset of the ToS, and this is clearly stated as well). When you decide to grow up and act like an adult on an adult site, then sure, we can discuss things. Yet, you will still find that this site has rules which are enforced. This site is MODERATED. By the way, that is also clearly stated.

This site is a privately owned business, and they can set any rules they want. Freedom of Speech ("Congress shall pass no law...") is not in effect here. If you don't like it here, go somewhere else (that's how I came here). If you can't find somewhere else, start your own website.

I just want to add that you have no idea why that story was deleted and therefore you are only assuming things. What it basically boils down to is the story and/or author not meeting the terms laid out in the TOS. Definitely not because of the actual content, I can assure you.
The reason that this site asks for your date of birth is to make sure that you're not a child trying to come into an adult site.
The admin and the other moderators work hard to ensure that they adhere to the rules that are required for them to run this website. They didn't make up those rules, they only enforce them. However, I am certain that a mod will come by to answer your question although you are being very vague about the situation which makes us assume that it was your own story that was deleted. If that's the case then someone has already contacted you about what needs to be done to correct it. Complaining here will do nothing but make a moderator come by to reiterate.

So, original posting numbnut, just which stories are being deleted willy nilly for no good reason? I can 100% guarantee you that it would be NONE. We delete stories if the person that posted them are under age. Why do we do that? Because we can go to JAIL. Yes, actual jail, with bars. And yes, it has happened before elsewhere. Stories can also be hidden from public if a person fails to abide by our ToS, but are unhidden when they comply, again only to protect ourselves, as well as YOU. Stories AREN'T deleted simply because someone doesn't like it. Don't believe it? I'm sure people could guide you to some stories that many would find utterly repulsive, but they're still there.
But as others have pointed out, if you don't like our rules - the rules of a site totally free for you to use, but expensive for us to run - then you can kindly fuck off and not come back.

I agree with you CrissyQ. The administrators have an age requirement to keep them out of courts. If the person dosent want to give. The info to verify their legitimate age then the have no right to conplain when they are stricken from this site or any other site that requires age verification. And if the submit a story that does not meet the requirement that the loss that one also. Would like to say that I am sorry for coming off to the administrators about a story that I was following and did not like their review until they informed me that it did not meet standards. I saw where they were right and was glad that author was able to fix I t to keep it on this site.

    Welcome to the real world!

There are these things called rules, and standards. Part of being an adult is learning to adhere to rules, and having standards. I'm sorry if a story of yours/a story you read was taken down for not adhering to the rules or falling below this sites standards.
They have every right to remove material that violates terms of service, they are paying to maintain this domain which you get to use for free. I'm sorry if you don't understand the concept of a ToS, and that it has nothing to do with adult oriented material. The site literally says "Adult Fan fiction" Adult is a subjective term. Adult, can mean anything from graphic sex, graphic violence or extreme situations. Adult also varies by country, what is considered adult in the US is not the same as in the UK, EU Canada or Japan.
In closing, you should have read the Terms of service before posting, I know... reading is hard. But if you had you would have posted here, you wouldn't have wasted your time and I wouldn't be laughing at how juvenile your argument is. Seriously... are you 12? Even porn sites have rules for content.
TL:DR ... Learn 2 read ToS before signing up.

are the godmothers in Harry's world? We learn that Sirius is Harry's godfather and Snape is Draco's but where are the godmothers? Who would they be? Why didn't they step into the picture? How different would the stories be with a more matriarchal influence?
Okay - going back to my coffee now.

Hello all. I've read stories on AFF for awhile, but only recently joined and decided to be active. I've got two one off's and a bigger project that I'm hoping to roll out soon. My focus will mostly be on video games and (non-anime) cartoons. Fairly vanilla by some standards, but I've got to get my "sea legs," before I venture off into the harder stuff.
My screen name comes from my long dead, crotchety old great grandfather. "Why is it that everything you see on television and in the movies has to be full of smut? Writing is a craft, but writing filth is a busted craft."
    He'd be so proud.
Anyway, it's nice to meet everyone, and I look forward to having more to share with whomever is interested.

BronxWench reacted to BustedCraft in what made you want to write in the first place?
As a kid I was a bit of a loner, and a nerd before the whole geek chic thing made it socially acceptable. I liked to read, and my head was always full of stories. I overcame childhood insomnia by constructing elaborate tales in my head until I fell asleep, and if they still sounded good in the morning (which they so seldom did), I would write them down. As a teen, I wrote scripts for my friends' independent, no-budget movies, usually in the style of Twilight Zone. Now I work in IT, which I enjoy, but there's not much room for creativity in what I do, so I write as an outlet for storyteller in me. There was never an author, or particular piece of fiction that drove me to write. I don't do it for money, recognition, or anything of that sort. I do it because I'm compelled to, and would continue writing even if I were the only person to ever read it.

My favorite of hers: http://hp.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600006978- interesting take on Dementors.
Ms_Figg was a large part of the inspiration for me to come out of the anon shadows and into a more active part of fanfiction. Her joy, sense of humor and ability to spin a tale are compelling. Her strength in adversity, IRL, was beyond compare.

I was thinking the same. We all sit here and well, at least I do and take for granted that we're all human. So it saddens me when something like this happens. It puts it in perspective that there's an actual person on the other end. May she know eternal peace and condolences sent to her loved ones.
