Saoirse Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 Wow! I am so not suprised. I joined up in '03 and refrained from scribbling smut on FFN and just threw it up here. And the only reason I kept uploading on FFN was because of the feedback (glad I'm not the only one thinking this). FFN forums could be a bitch warzone and I stopped posting when I got "screamed" at by an emo poster who took something I wrote out of context. I should say tone, because I was cracking a joke when the emotard mistook it for rudeness. And yes Twatlight and Fifty Shades of Shite has ruined the publishing industry, fiction, and fanfiction (after all, Fifty Shades started out as a Twatlight fanfic). Kurahieiritr 1
Guest Psudocode_Samurai Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 I personally love the idea of a FF writer managing to get published, but you do so, don't forget your roots, it seems like this girl, as quick as possible, distanced herself from the site so that people A) wouldn't get her book for free (understandable) or B) someone told her that it was now somehow wrong to have started as an FF writer... I don't pretend to know, and I'm certainly not a twilight fan, so I never looked her way, but I think it's rather sad that this has mostly come about due to something good turning into something bad because of the admins. If they were smart they would have jumped at the idea of saying 'yes, this great author started here!' Instead they seem to be running. And to you Apollo and DemonGoddess, thanks for being so active here and encouraging us, I know that many are looking elsewhere ATM though due mostly to the fact that, to paraphrase, this site is mostly known for smut. I know that one of the big issues going on right now is that people are angry at their lack of detail in expressing what 'excessive' violence can be that bumps something from an M to an MA rating. I know that a lot of the stories I've found here are mostly of the lemon nature, however that's not for everyone, so I'm not sure just how many will be coming here if this FFN fiasco doesent get sorted out soon.
BronxWench Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 As I've said, I began writing over on FFN, and was pointed to AFF to read a fic or two. I also had a few friends from FFN who'd published more explicit work here, and when I wrote my first MA work, this is where it went up. I'm in the process of cleaning up and posting a fic here that's not at all smut. I've done a batch of oneshots that are no sex. We're about writing, and the freedom to write what you want to write. Adult fiction can engage the mind and challenge preconceptions without always being smut. Having said that, the smut can be fun as well. RogueMudblood, Despairs and Kurahieiritr 3

Guest Psudocode_Samurai Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 I agree, if you are writing and such a thing flows well into the chapter (Or if you are just having fun and making lemon one-shots) then you shouldn't be discouraged, it's just that the stigma seems to be on the site I fear.
ApolloImperium Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 To some extend it comes from the fact that our name is 'Adult Fan Fiction' but I think Bronx said it best. Some of my favorite stories on here have no sex or it's just hinted at. That's not to say that we don't have a ton of smut (cause well we do) but there is no restriction that stories HAVE to have smut Kurahieiritr 1

I can promise you that that sort of behavior is NOT tolerated in these forums. My hammer falls hard and fast for that. We have no problems with lively discussion. What we won't allow, though, is what you're describing. Despairs 1
Guest lilyrose225 Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 *FF.net author here* I didn't find out until a couple of hours ago, from a friend who updated one of her completed stories with an A/N (which is against the rules; she did it because that story had the most followers) to spread the word. It would have been nice to have a warning about all this-- there's nothing written on the home page, which is frustrating. I might be a reader here in the near future~ Who knows? ~lilyrose225
Guest PhoenixDiamond Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Well I must say I'm very thrilled to know that a site does exist for us to post our would-be smut plots. It terrified me when I got word that FFN was doing a clean sweep of every story displaying MA content. With me having only been on the site for a little over a year I can't say I've experienced that incident in 2002. But I can say that what's happening now pretty much sucks. Nearly all of my stories are M rated and yaoi content. Me and several other authors I know have all rolled on over to AFF and damn I wish I would've came sooner. There are way more well written stories here that ACTUALLY keep the characters true to form without going into heat, turning into nekos, and lord don't get me started on the Mary-Sues. AFF I thank you for the awesomeness that you radiate and hope to stay put comfortably without warning about my stories being deleted without warning because I worked TOO DAMN HARD on my plots to suddenly have them up and ripped away.
BronxWench Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 PhoenixDiamond, and all our new authors: We're glad to have you here as well. New authors bring life to our community and keep us vibrant!
Guest Spirit of Auron Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Well, I suspected this was on the horizon when red button and such popped up. Sadly I doubt some of the writers I followed will be coming over here, since one of the sections I read isn't as big here as it was there. Hopefully though this means that some of the sections that have been slower lately will have some fresh new blood to add to it and create even greater stories. Knowing now that I can move over my only two fics I've had tehre over here helps(i hadn't because lack of major smut and one of them I'll probably have to move just because of a very innocent innuendo that doens't even hint to anything probably will get deleted if it hasn't already even though it wasn't even anything but innocent)
DemonGoddess Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 A reminder to all newcomers regarding story upload PLEASE be certain to add your stories to the proper subdomain. Our database is split across 23 subdomains, so be mindful of what heading you're adding to. For example, if you have a manga based story, add it to the manga subdomain. Each subdomain has its own add/edit/delete links. We routinely delete improperly placed stories as moving them from one set of tables to another is not the easiest thing to. I can't just select a story, click a few times and move it. I have to do that kind of thing direct IN the database.
Guest Prentice Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 It's so sad to see this happening again with FF.net. I was one of the many authors purged the first time around and I remember how upsetting it was, especially since at the time there wasn't any other big multi-fandom archives willing to compete with FF.net. With AFF.net and other archives out there now, at least there's a chance that some of the ousted authors and fics won't completely disappear, but I think we all know that there's going to be a lot of loss no matter what.
sumeragichan Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 To all the new guys, HI! Welcome aboard! We're generally a friendly bunch.... er.... most of the time. XD Al, Bob? Isn't that a bit extreme? Anyhoo, back to reactions. Yep. The pit actually backing up it's TOS is a miracle. What is mildly concerning is how hard it is to know exactly what they want to allow. My stuff ( I now use my old pit account for a back up of things) isn't so bad I don't think, but I don't know if it would fall under what they would allow as some of the stuff progresses. I might need a new back up place. Any ideas?
Guest Kat Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 I am a migrating FF.net author who is absolutely disheartened by this purge. I love writing adult works as I can feel free when infusing into my OC's their life stories and traits. FF.net has been lax for 10 years and now this sudden surge in what I call censorship and book burnings has forced me to pack up. I am glad I found you guys!! I have many works of porn/smutty/lemony goodness for you all!!!!
Guest Psudocode_Samurai Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 Going to start uploading some of my stories tonight, though I'm not quite ready to give up on FFN just yet, just want to cover my bases So if you all like Naruto fics crossed with some unique worlds, look me up (For some reason it wont let me log in...not sure why)
VannuroRB Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 I too have come from FF. scared that I might be taken down as well (luckily I haven't but one can't be too cautious right?) I think what upsets me most about this purge-apart from the fact I did not realise I was breaking the rules, I thought lemons were okay since everyone was doing it!-is that I'll have to leave my readers behind. They were more then just reviewers, they were all my friends and I felt like I had really been accepted in a fandom, it really tears me to think that I might not get to talk to them like I did on FF. Maybe there's a little hope and that they'll find this site and me on it to. I'd like that. Saying that I'm really quite nervous to start out on here (Hope you don't bite too much), one of the surprising things I saw on this site while checking it out is the original story section, I've always wanted to do original writing as well but whenever I put anything online I almost NEVER get any feedback and I question if anyone does read it. Hope to see if people will review, and I'll try my best, even though that can turn really bad so I've heard
DemonGoddess Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 As fanfiction.net allows users UNDER 18 to join, they legally have to have restrictions on content. That they didn't enforce those restrictions for so long is a staff screw up. As we cannot allow users under 18 here for legal reasons, it's definitely going to make it so you have readers who can't follow you. Having said all that, welcome aboard, and have fun!
BronxWench Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 I do write a bit in Originals, and the reviews there can be fabulous if you're writing a genre that is popular. I myself tend not to, because I'm like that ( ) but having said that, the other reason I publish Original work here is our dedication to protecting our authors from plagiarism. We do NOT tolerate plagiarism on this site, and we have been known to engage in reporting elsewhere when one of our authors has been plagiarized. It's a comfort level that I don't have elsewhere online for my original work.
Ajwf Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 So, question: This is a smut site, I would assume. And I'm also guessing it is soley a smut site. But, I can think of a really good story from FF (going to link it since that's my way of citing things) (Only Hope and Light can Together Defeat Darkness) That doesn't have any smut until the second to last chapter she ever wrote. Do people do that here? Have quite a few chapters before anything 'interesting' ever happens?
WillowDarkling Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 Ajwf, there are stories on the Archive with no smut at all, or so I've heard. There are no restrictions on stories here, except for the real person fics, so non-smut stories are just as welcome
Ajwf Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 Thanks. I have yet to walk the path of the Dark Side, so I'd have to have some time to ease into it. (God, I love innuendos)
VannuroRB Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 That's okay Demon (Is it okay if I shorten your name by the way? I'm used to shortening people's names and I don't want to appear too personal) I think most of my readers were well over eighteen, or at least that's what they tell me. So maybe they will, maybe they won't, hopefully I'll make some new friends here and still keep in contact with my old ones. And thanks for welcoming me. Bronx, that's good to hear. When I checked out the original archive there were many great reviews there. Sadly there were stories there without reviews and many chapters, and although you shouldn't base a story on the amount of reviews it has, it is kind of discouraging. And I hope to never plagiarise anything. If I do it will most likely be by accident, never ever will I do it purposefully. I sound a little guilty...I'm not.
DemonGoddess Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 @VannuroRB LOL everyone shortens it, but DG is easier.... @Ajwf - we have no requirements of a story having to have smut. What we DO have a requirement of is that real person fiction cannot be written about persons under 18. Of course the biggest requirement is that the user be 18 or over to use this site in the first place.
