um, wow, a majority of the stuff that people get squicked out about on this list, I've not only written about, but you can find on my stuff on this site. Fecaphilia, BDSM, child abuse, rape, torture, bestiality, anthro, incest, nothing squicks me out. Of course, my cousin is really into BDSM, so I learned about it at an early age so it doesn't freak me out. Anything I haven't written about it is because I haven't found away to put it in a fic without it feeling like its just there for the sake of it.

ok, finally found something that squicks me out and that i would never write: self insertioni/mary sue. I wrote a self instruction gundam wing fic on self defense and i still couldn't put myself into it.

Ok...You gotta one realize I am an older gal. (Over 43) I have also been on AFF since around 2005...And I NEVER knew what "Self Insertion was"...I always had thought when I saw that code (SI-Self Insertion) it meant code for characters masterbating and inserting non-sexual objects into them..(Cucumbers, bananas, etc, etc, etc.)

It wasn't until a year later when a good friend told me what SI stood for and I want... "Oh". think.gif

Personally I kinda liked my version of "SI" codes...(Light bulbs? Gerbils? ah, um...Never mind!) blush.gif

I see they changed the code now..

But honestly, as a question, for an author (especially of ORIGINAL work)...Doesn't EVERY character have a wee bit of you as an author in it? Sure it does. You experiences, your emotions (good or bad). I've gotten to talk to published authors like Steven King and Dean Koontz and even THEY say that every character may have one tiny piece of what is THEM.

Yes, yes...I know about the Mary Sue litmus test, and I am not talking Mary Sue here. But I gotta be honest...Nearly all the original stuff I have read here has SOMETHING of the original writer/creator in it. Maybe a habit the character has, or the way he/she quirks an eyebrow, or what not. So the "Self Insertion" (as pertaining to Mary Sue) is a very slippery slope indeed.

I would not consider Laurence Martel, Victor Jerome, nor some of my other characters from my stories "MS's" but yet each one MAY have an experienced or characteristic that I have or have done or have known about. Does that make it MS/SI?

Waaaaaay to many people are way to quick to jump on the MS bandwagon I think. JMHO

I would never write...hmm...that's though....

I think I would never write very exxaggerated child abuse (like 4-years-old or younger)...some kind of zoophilia (like humanXhorse, though I could write an humanXcentaur...I know this have no sense, but whatever....)...and I would never write a MPreg because they make no sense for me.

oh, and I'd never write a Draco/Ginny!That's just disturbing for me...

Let's see what interest my writing and what are my limits....well I don't like to write anything that I wouldn't read(I mainly read slash of any fandom almost) and that usually is Het, Yuri, Fetishes or any type of Kinky stuff unless like I realy experienced it. It depends thought because I don't mind all of this stuff and I do have a tendency to just write out any little thing that pops into my head. The only things I would never ever write is couples that I hate from any fandom of any kind. It really ticks me off when there are like these people stuck together that don't even have a chance in hel!l*forgive me! devil.gif * Soo I really think there is no limit until I despise something so much to stop writing about it.

I would never write anything involving children (unless it was a vampire child who was in fact actually centuries old), bodily fluids other than blood, semen and vaginal fluid, bestiality, male pregnancy (because I think it's extremely silly), snuff fics (yuck!), S&M, torture or extreme abuse (I'm just not into people hurting each other), basically anything that squicks me in any way. I'm not against other people writing it, I just don't read that stuff.

I also won't write stories for super-popular,everybody's writing about it fandoms, (IE HP, POTC, LOTR etc.) even if I happen to like them, and I don't do anime or cartoon stuff.

And I definitely won't write about real people, as in actors, musicians or other celebrities.

As for Mary Sue, I'm neutral. If it's just for fun, or well written, go for it. Sadly a lot of SI fics are the products of deranged fourteen year old fangirls

Graphically, I wouldn't go into much. Definitely not rape, child or otherwise, and probably not any fetishes. At least not BDSM and the human excretement ones. As for including in my story (ie mentioning or hinting at something that may have happened), I don't think I have limits.

Hmmm, I haven't really thought about it. I do have trouble crossing the SMUT line... >.< Does that count? o.o I am trying though! >.<;

~ No scat, child abuse, watersports, Mary Sue (save that I agree with Kanashii that the author often identifies somewhat with one or more character in a scene) , mPreg, tentacles, or sex with minors.

Those are personal limits.

However, there's also the "don't feel like writing, probably never will write, and probably wouldn't be able to write..."

~ M/M, vampires, D/S, serious bondage/blood sports.

I don't find rape or any non-con a turn-on, and have a great deal of difficulty writing it, but once did so for plot purposes.

I've honestly never stoped to think about it..

I'd probably have a problem with canibalism, some rape, and ummm... I donno really....

I'm gonna take a look at request that are kinda out there and see if I can actually write what they want without a problem...

I know one thing I have a problem with is keeping my own feelings out of my work... though I've been doing really well with it... as in NOT putting my own emotions in the work and keeping characters true to themselves...

Hmm.. I've read the replies here, and compared my own thoughts on the manner..

No:

Scat/WS

M-Preg

High School ( OUCH. NEVER. The world may turn upside down first )

I've got no problems with rape/incest/beast/bondage/whathaveyou.. I've got a lot of evil/insane/non-human characters at my disposal!

And I haven't even unleashed a respectable number of them into the world!

..they lurk in the forest of darkness, waiting for my command to spring into civilization and destroy--but first I have to figure out how to smite this giant writer's block.

..anyone got a hammer? v_v

When I sat down to type this reply, I thought it would be pretty long. Turns out I'm much more perverted than I thought, cause there's very little I wont write about.

Here's the list:

M/M - due to complete lack of interest. I may try it some day, for the mental exercise if nothing else, but its doubtful.

Necrophilia - Unless one or more of the participants are zombies. You read that right. Zombies. Blame Resident Evil 2.

Snuff - Death is not sexy. Undeath -yes. Real death, no.

Yeah, that's really about it.

Posted

No:

Scat

Watersports

Necrophilia. Although Jason Voorhees doesn't count. He's not really dead.

Is there anything else?

F/F is just something I don't know about. It's a straight man thing. So I don't do it. M/M is hotter.

I'm fine with Mpreg as long as it's tasteful (by which I mean it's birth by C-section, not ass-baby), and torture is my most favorite subject. I also love writing rape with bondage. Child abuse is also fine because it slots with torture. But I do like things to work out happy. Though this does kinda involve the jerkwad dying.

M/M is great. Death is fine, and I've written original stories with death. Permanent death, not "Wow, I thought you were dead!" death.

Personally, I don't care to read or write about: Scat, Watersports, Snuff, Canon characters being permanently maimed

Things that may or may not squick me depending how they are treated: Rimming, Sex between adults and pre-adolescents-If it is character background or part of the plot and treated as abuse, fine. If it is written in such a way that it is intended to be sexually stimulating, no thanks. Between adults and underage adolescents -- more on a case by case basis, but the greater the age difference and younger the child, the more suspect it is. Bestiality -- Anthropomorphic characters don't bug me. A dude killing a chicken or a dog by having sex with it -- ick.

There are probably other things that I simply haven't run across.

I'm into D/s, Light to moderate S&M, that sort of thing. I've got little problem with sex between underage characters who are old enough to want to have sex with one another. Age varies. Incest doesn't bother me, but I don't go looking either. Got no problem with M/M, F/F, or group sex scenarios. I do like dubious and non-consent stuff that doesn't fall under the above squicks.

Probably more things I've forgotten, but I think this post is long enough already. Don't you?

Oddly, not much bothers me when it comes to reading. I have read some pretty weird shit and liked it. After I'm done I'll be like wtf... how did I get turned on by that? But when in the moment I just go with it. I believe that there is a big difference between fantasizing and doing.

I'm a little more conservative when it comes to writing though. I'll do incest, BDSM, rape if it's important to the plot, and minors over the age of 14.

Limits...hm...

There aren't many for me...at least the common ones like rape and kiddy porn and whatnot, I don't have a problem with it and I've written them before. It's not real, so why be bothered? There's no place I won't go because I'm disgusted or anything. I don't write about...say BDSM not because it isn't my thing, but because I haven't experienced it and I wouldn't want to do it any wrong you know?

Some things I just can't do because I have OCD xD. Like scat, water sports, those types.

But everything else... I wouldn't want to not write something great or read something wonderful because it had a certain "kink" in it. I'd be denying myself. I'll try anything once.

There are of course things I don't do/read because I think it's dumb though...like the sex with a chicken thing xD. I am a bestiality fan but....chickens? Really? ...whatever floats your boat I say.

I'm also not of fan of AUs because I can't for the life of me ever keep a character in-character and...really I don't think any character in an AU could be in-character because they had to have grown up differently in that environment.

edit:

Oh yeah! Post 69 xD

A long time ago, I told myself that I would never wriite scat, watersports, incest, bestiality, goro, or necrophilia. Over the past year, friends of mine had asked me to write some pwp gundam wing stories involving scat and bestiality, so I did them, cause I have this inability to say no to people. So, I guess I could write about anything as long as someone asks me to. I'm also working on a story about an incestuous relationship, though it's more a drama story than a smut story, so I've changed a lot since I was younger. I still draw the line at goro and necrophilia (unless you call zombie or vampire sex necrophilia, which I don't since they're the 'living' dead). I've also never written a het sex scene, though I think that I could since I've done guy on guy and girl on girl.

Hm... I don't really have any limits either. :/ Nothing really squicks me so I"ll read anything if it's thought out and well written and I'll write about anything as long as I feel like I have a point to make and a story to tell. The only thing I think I probably wouldn't write is bestiality and not because of the subject matter but because I need to tell some kind of story and not have a fic that's just controversial for the sake of controversy or kinky for the sake of kink. But If I suddenly figured out a way to write an angsty, gripping, drama filled love story between Sasuke and, like, his ninja cats or something I'd write that shit in a second.

I was actually underage when I first started writing (long before I discovered AFF, mind you,) so underage stuff (to a limited extent,) doesn't really bother me as much as it appears to bother others (I'm not advocating; it sickens me when it goes on in real life, verse fiction, which ISN'T real.)

I find my limitations are based how I'm feeling while I write. So far I haven't had any interest in certain themes (watersports or scat, for example,) but perhaps sometime down the road I will.

I can't stand scat or watersports so I'd never write it. I'd probably never write yuri either. Bestiality and Necrophillia I might write if someone paid me a heck of a lot of money. I also don't think I'll ever write BDSM or anything where the characters get hurt for erotic purposes. Not totally adverse to it but not really my thing either. Also...I have never ever written oral sex, and I don't think I will. There's something about sticking things like that into your mouth that seems rather odd. Same goes with rimming.

And while I in no way condone sex with children, I'm more indifferent to it when it's in a story than anything. However, I won't write sex about anyone under fourteen. And I epsecially won't write about adults raping little babies. I saw that once. It definately gave me a shock.

M-preg is another thing that I won't touch with a forty foot pole while wearing protective shielding. The concept is so illogical. I personally have no clue as to how someone can get pregnant from butt-sex to begin with. But I don't speak for everyone, of course.

I know what you're thinking...what the heck is left to write? Good ol' fashion sex, I suppose. Even though I specialize in slash, I don't go overboard with it.

I wouldn't write anything feministic, makes me want to slaughter the innocent.

Anything else I'd probably write: Necrofilia, Pedofilia, stuff like that (though I'm not going to because I don't feel like it)

And I didn't read past the first page of this thread but I wanted to say blog's are for attention whores.

blog's are for attention whores.

Not necessarily.

I've seen a couple of great blogs of people who have some intriguing observations to share...

They think, they can sell it wrapped in smart words... Not for attention, just to exchange ideas B)
