SasUke PepSi aDvErTiZeMeNt Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I mostly like to read/write yaoi but I also read other things like yuri and het. I don't mind reading if it has a terrific plot, I'm cooly like that and because I'm open to almost everything! Quote
ChaserBlue Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 I read anything but as far as writing goes, het's mostly it for me. Quote
YuriChampion Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) Um, check the screen/penname. Have ya met me? I've been told I'm something of an anomaly, a woman who writes Yuri/Shoujo-ai. I'm further told that that women my age (28) shouldn't be writing Yuri/Shoujo-ai fanfics about video games and Disney cartoons, and that married mothers of one really shouldn't be writing Yuri/Shoujo-ai fanfics about video games and Disney cartoons that require a "Minor" warning tag (be on the look out for .hentai//FRAGMENT, coming soon [/shameless plug]). I'm told a lot of things. Thankfully, I listen to very little of it. I write shoujo-ai/yuri because I find it the most romantic, and sexiest, of all the options. This causes my some frustration though, since there is so very little of it in fanfiction circles. Good ones are ever harder to find. For every Revelations of Destiny or Kim Possilbe: Mind, Body, and Soul, there are about a ba-jillion fics that, well aren’t. That right. Ba-jillion. With a 'B'. So what's a girl to do? Write her own, and try to make them good ones. When I can pull off a Terra/Celes story with that makes me cry as well as makes me hot, I'll know I've arrived. Hi, I'm YuriChampion, and I write femslash. Edited February 5, 2008 by YuriChampion Quote
Quatre Winner Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 I voted Yaoi, because I was forcibly introduced to things that involved sex with Gravitation (and the Gravitation Remixes). Before Gravitation, I wouldn't even READ anything with a pairing in it, and what I wrote had no pairings whatsoever, because romance just didn't interest me in the slightest (plus bad childhood memories, oh no). However, after having had a boyfriend and having other things happen (if you know what I mean), I've been a lot more open as far as het goes, and lately I've been going so far as to include hints of het, even if I won't write a smutfic involving them. As far as the smut I've written, it's been exclusively yaoi of varying fandoms. I enjoy some of the mainstream couples (as mainstream as yaoi can get), and enjoy some crack pairings as well, but what I mostly love is crossovers. I would have to say that my favorite pairing of all time is Duo Maxwell (from Gundam Wing) x Harry Potter (mostly because of a fic I've started to write...). I also like catboys/catgirls, going so far as to find an excuse to cross almost everything with Loveless, or coming up with convoluted plots to give the characters cat ears and a cat tail (Rockman.exe x House wtf). I have nothing against Het or Yuri, honestly. When I watch porn, most of the time that's what it is. However, I don't like to read about it unless it's just a minor part of the story (oh, Ron's gotten together with Hermione, yay for them, now what's this about a bad guy?) as far as het is concerned. Yuri... well, to be honest I haven't thought about reading it. There are just so few female characters that I like, and when I go to find het for them, I end up with yaoi instead. How does THAT work? So yeah. That's a confusing and somewhat convoluted view into my mind, but I never did think linearlly anyway. Some background information for me: I'm female, 20, and quite happily engaged in a long-distance relationship with another woman. As I like to say, it's not the body that counts, but the person within it! Quote
DM-fanficmonster Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 The more I think I like a certain one, the more something else will interfere. So I've given up. Whatever I want! Quote
Rubedo Jr. Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 I'm fond of yaoi and especially of its subset, shota, but I'm not adverse to straight or yuri either. I've even subscribed to lolicon, although, and this applies to shota as well, there *is* limit for how young the character can be. If it's tastefully done, it's excusable, but even then I find it hard to justify going maybe ten. On the whole, I'm willing to ignore the orientation if the story is well written, using the pairing as more of a guideline to what I feel into reading at that point in time. I think that having a preference for one over another is fine, but to the exclusion of all else might be a bit much. Never know when you might miss out on a diamond in a sea of glass, after all. Tricia1224 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 I will read almost anything. I have only started two fan-fics, but they are both m/f. Quote
Ringshadow Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I'm straight until proven otherwise, but here, I have two yaoi up. On FFnet, I have mostly hetero work though (with two shounen-ais and a shojo-ai, kicks and giggles). I write what seems appropriate for the characters usually. Or to get the ideas and images out of my head. Quote
Velvet D Coolette Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Mostly hetero storylines for me, because that's where my experience lies. I've thought of throwing in a couple of gay/lesbian subplots in there, but... I don't know yet. As my sexual subplot is just that - a subplot - it gets twisted by the more important happenings in the larger story, which offers me challenges and ideas. I love it that way! Quote
greenwizard Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I write slash because it's what I know. I have no problem with het. I've dated a few girls, and I own some het porn. But I can't write women to save my life. I've tried in role play. The man I was writing with tweaked out on me because I guess he thought I was a woman when we started. It was quickly obvious that I wasn't, and he threw a fit. I think he was one of those people who just wanted to write smut and get off on it. Those people annoy me. Quote
Overlord Rion Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Any stuff that ends up written from me is usually hetero. Any experience lies there, but every time I've tried to write something other than that, I end up having to do research, and research gets old after a while. Quote
hanyou-elf Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 i mostly write and read yaoi/shounen-ai. however, most of the stories that i've been writing and reading lately haven't had full blown smut in them. i've been enjoying the more tamer stories with giving hints to the smut without it being completely written out, so much stuff being written lately is just recycled. you can only have sex so many ways when you have two men together. i don't know what it is about the stories with two men together, but it's attractive to me. if it's well done, it can be incredible. so, i play with it and i write it more often than not. but, that applies to both heterosexual stories and yuri/shoujo-ai stories. no matter what the pairing is, if it's well done, i'll read it. but it has to be written well. but my preference is yaoi/shounen-ai.
