JayDee got a reaction from InvidiaRed in writer question. I heard an editor complain that people overuse “ “ i’m a bit confizz
Is your editor Herr Starr?(edit - deleted link as no preview per forum rules but Google something like Herr Starr improper use of inverted commas to see an overreaction! )
Edit 2 – Found an imur link with preview! (NSFW due to languague, two pages from comic Preacher with discussion of inverted commas!)

I think @GeorgeGlass has the right of it.
The only other thing I can think of, and I will admit it does annoy me, is when people put a word or phrase in quotations as a form of emphasis:
He seemed to think he was always going to be “the big man on campus” despite being the lowest producer on the team.
And there’s the quote within conversation, which should be marked by ‘ ‘ rather than “ “ :
“So, he said the me, ‘I won’t eat that rubbish.’ Can you imagine the cheek?”

The editor complained that writers use quotation marks too often? If they’re talking about nonfiction, I might agree, because direct quotes are often not necessary in nonfiction (at least, not as necessary as some writers think). But in fiction, quotation marks are essential.

Do that thing where it turns out the remorseless hated evil they thought was destroyed suddenly appears again, like when I haven’t posted here for a hit then suddenly reply.

Hey @pippychick ! I’m finally getting to see the Game of Thrones tv show. Gonna read yer story once it’s done. I’m up to season 4 episode 2 so I’ve a ways to go!

I’m with @Desiderius Price on this. Do what you think will have the greatest “punch” and keep the readers invested for the next part.

What’s this “reaching completion” thing you’re talking about?
I don’t see why you can’t have an epilogue, especially if you don’t answer the cliffhanger.

lol I read about the spiders. I’m not bothered by spiders, so that doesn’t worry me. Well, as long as the deadly ones stay outside.
Today was a day of sunshine! Actually sunshine! Man that feels good. Some areas got 1 metre of rain in a 7 day period, which is about 3.3 feet.

And my friends in NSW posted on FB yesterday, that there’s now also a plague of spiders running away from the flooding… So, good luck with that, Melrick!

I’m just glad your parents are okay. If my parents did that it’d be
Just because that’s how luck treats my family.

Fire & Ice?

Ah yes, the plague of mice, I forgot about them. lol Not the first time we’ve had massive plagues of mice (check out youtube for older videos if you like lol) and this won’t be the last. It seems to be something that happens every few years, with the right conditions. A locust plague is probably next, and then the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse can finally show up.

Just throw in some earthquakes, and you could call Australia “The Southern Southern California.”

JayDee reacted to WillowDarkling in Around this time last year, we were dealing with devastating fires and serious water
I’m refusing to read about the Plague of Mice, sorry. I don’t like mice in big quantities… one mouse, two mouse, that’s fine… more than that, and I start to worry about what they’re up to.

I think I might stop grumbling about the weather here for a bit… Well, unless it snows in April, in which case I reserve the right to grumble without restraint.
But mice… :shudders: I get maybe a dozen at the lake house every winter, and I think that’s awful. What you’re getting is apocalyptic!

I saw this and thought it couldn’t get worse -then I read about the Plague of Mice – https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/mar/19/you-cant-escape-the-smell-mouse-plague-grows-to-biblical-proportions-across-eastern-australia
Damn :(

Well, yes, it only took the lava over 40 000 earthquakes in the span of 3 weeks to finish buffering, Desi
The location is sort of in the middle of the Reykjanes peninsula, so it’s kind of midway between the capital where I live, and the little town where my parents and baby sister & family live. But thankfully, the fissure is far enough away from the towns that there is very little danger. Biggest concern at the moment is gas emissions from the fissure going over townships, so authorities are issuing warnings about keeping windows shut, and that the lava might possibly run over the road that’s on the south coast of the peninsula, connecting it to the south coast of the country. But that’s alright, because there are two other roads out of the town where my family live, so there’s no danger of people getting cut off
But honestly, this is exciting enough that my parents (now officially both in their 60’s) ran out into their car and drove off to try and see the eruption, like about half the damned town
