  1. First of all, everyone has their own unique viewpoint as to what actually constitutes flaming. For the purposes of the forum, I'll keep it on a simple level. By flaming, I mean no PERSONAL attacks of other forum members in your posts. You know, no name calling, directly verbally attacking another member to incite a problem. If a member does flame another, there will be consequences if the behavior persists. Generally, I've found that a private request to take the argument private usually works, and there is not usually a NEED to place someone on moderated status. That's something that will only occur where absolutely necessary. In other words, we don't want to prevent healthy discussion, and/or heated discussion. But flaming someone directly is not acceptable as a method of posting and will be dealt with accordingly.
  2. Duplicate accounts will be deleted. Generally, if a Member has two Forum accounts, the one with fewer posts will be deleted. If the reason for creating a duplicate account is because you no longer have access to the email you registered with, for example, rather than creating a duplicate account, simply email forums@adult-fanfiction.org SUBJECT: Forum account problem. Detail the nature of your problem, and it can be usually be corrected in short order. Do not create a duplicate account to relieve restrictions upon your main one; it is possible that this will earn you a stricter punishment than the one you were originally assigned. We are penalizing the Member, not an account. So you all know, if I FIND a duplicate member, duplicates are subject to IMMEDIATE deletion without notice, upon discovery.
  3. Yes. It's certainly easy enough to move the topics. Although I should have it back up here very shortly. Found out what exactly happened too, but no fixing it dammit. Apparently, when the outside db util was run on the forum db, it must not have been done in quite awhile. What happens then, is that sometimes, a record is actually a bit garbled, and the utility will repair the field by deleting it. The only way to avoid that is to run the utility on a regularly scheduled basis, which has been set up. I'd run into this before years ago with this software, and had set up a cron to handle it then. In any case, that's been handled so it should not reoccur. I haven't quite gotten as far in the archive restructure as the comics subdomain yet. Have been kicking around a few thought as to how to start those categories for it, and of course, the forum itself will reflect that.
  4. The user has a couple options for requesting a new FAQ file. 1. email forum admin at affforums@gmail.com, subject: New FAQ request 2. Finally, post your request in the forum, here. We do ask that if you have a new FAQ request, that you explain what you'd like to see in the FAQ requested, and why you see it as necessary.
  5. I think she means sub sub cats or something. We very likely can add a better search engine to the thing later though.
  6. I think that would be entirely up to you, quite honestly. To do that, though, I believe that you would have to delete/re-add the chapters in the order you want them to appear in once you determine that afterwards. I'm not entirely sure, as I'm not an author so I've never really DONE anything in the archive other than to select an avatar and edit my profile.
  7. No, you're not seeing things. Only thing I can think of that happened is when I ran some maintenance to repair/optimize, something unexpected may have happened. I hope not. I don't actually DO anything to a pre-existing forum in that section until the revised structure is set up. Hadn't even gotten to Comics yet.
  8. nah, keep talking where you're at, the posts'll still be there after the restructuring, just moved to their new homes, and still in the last order posted as always...
  9. Request a new category by posting it here. As with anything, we do have requirements for a category to be created. You can also request a new category by emailing technicalsupport@adult-fanfiction.org, subject: New Subcategory.
  10. Sorry for the inconvenience to you. It's an unfortunate side effect due to the age of the actual program. However, it is being updated and rewritten, and one of the enhancements will definitely be better spambot handling.
  11. The guidelines/FAQ pages are actually being reworked at the moment. You should be seeing the ones pertinent to your questions posted here in the next day or two. Sorry they're not up as yet. Ratings are more or less as follows: Adult=PG13 type content Adult+=R to anything up to "hard R" type content Adult++=anything ABOVE a "hard R" type story for content, as in NC17 (if you go by movie ratings for comparison) Disclaimers: Fiction using other known characters/worlds (fanfiction) In the disclaimer, one needs to state that they do not own the characters, nor do they make any profit from their story. Original fiction Original fiction one would expect to have an author's OWN characters, plots and worlds. Our system requires the disclaimer block to be filled before the story is displayed. So, for this, one would EXPECT to see an author saying that he/she owned the characters and content of the story. Pretty much word your disclaimers however you want, following the above guidelines. Posting your one shots: Something I've observed over time is that you'll see authors who will post a series of one shots that are plot connected as one STORY. The author simply states in the description of the story that it's a series of one shots. So, depending on the plot of what you've developed, as far as how the one shots relate to each other, is how you'd pick the subcategory to upload to. Hope that all helps.
  12. manta2g just finished running the maintenance, was able to access the data for your reviews. Unfortunately, that jump in reviews was an anonymous poster/reviewer (that's how it displayed, was actually a spam bot) who spammed your review board. She is making adjustments to that for you now. She just told me that you have 430 reviews, that are valid, not generated by the spambot.
  13. I don't actually take care of this end, but...I can tell you it's being looked into. It would be helpful if you could describe exactly what you're doing, when you're unable to access this function for this story only (for the tech who is doing the work). There is a scheduled maintenance task that may very well correct your problem. So, if you experience this still after it runs (some time today, so check tomorrow if the problem still exists), let us know that as well.
  14. Venison sounds good
  15. Hope everyone enjoys the day!
  16. As far as I know, had nothing up. But, that's neither here nor there....I reported this user so she could be verified as being underage or not underage, and then whatever needs to be done is done. Not my area, ya know? And yeah, MySpace displays your age based on your birthday information that you provide.
  17. Archive Profile and MySpace linkage
  18. Creating an account with an invalid and/or dummy email address will cause that membership to be immediately DELETED. It is common for spammers to sign into a discussion board using a "disposable" email address which subsequently disappears within a 24 to 48 hour time period. This allows a really dedicated spammer to actually validate IN PERSON, and then spam later. There are clear instructions you need to follow when signing up to join the forum; all you have to do is read all the information provided and follow the instructions. Failure to follow those instructions will ensure you do not get approved to join the forum.
  19. A spam topic, is one in which it is the same topic, blasted througout the board. A good example of this would be where a spammer has created a login, and the next thing you know, you have links to pill sites in every forum in the board. There are tools in place to prevent spambots from infesting the board, however, a DEDICATED spammer will actually sit through the verfication process in order to be able to spam a discussion board. ANY discussion board. What happens next These type of topics are ALL moved to the "spam graveyard". A member who comes onto the board with the express purpose of spamming the board, will be suspended INDEFINITELY. If upon further checking, that it is found that a new spammer is actually an old one that was suspended, then that person will be banned. Keep in mind that a spammer isn't just someone really concerned about the size of your penis, or desperate to help you out by selling you cheap pills. If you have a great story that you feel everyone should read and you subsequently post a link to it on multiple forums across the board, then you're a spammer and will likely get suspended. If you'd like to promote a story that you've uploaded to the AFF archive, then we have a forum for that: Promote a story forum If you have a website or a forum you'd like to promote, or if you'd like to place an ad asking for role players, etc, then we have a forum for that, too: Great wall of...
