haha, this part ain't a bug, it's a setting. Just no time to really LOOK at it yet.
-
As I said earlier, I'm not sure WHY the editing your whole profile was set to wait 'til a member reaches twenty posts. At this point in time, I'm working on allowing guest view access to certain parts of the board, so, while I'm not getting to looking over these settings now (and making adjustments where necessary), I will be getting to it soon.
-
While I appreciate the praise, I actually had very little, if anything, to do with the archive coding. That's manta2g and xax's excellent work.
-
I will be consolidating all the "Searching for a fic?" sub-forums into one. I expect to have this done within the next 24 hours.
-
It's 20 posts, looking at the setting for it. The Game Forum is where you were directed, not a specific thread. I'm unsure as to why that was set before, that post limit to be able to edit your profile, but I'm sure there was a reason for it at the time. Like you, I have my own discussion board, which actually is a later version of this software, so am aware of where I need to go to adjust that setting. I don't see a need for limiting that ability, but I'd like to be able to check and see why it was done in the first place, before I go ahead and change that setting. There may have been an actual need that was seen and addressed as a result, at the time it was done.

The archive login has actually been centralized for at least the last few weeks that I know of. I found that out by accident when I was reading in one section, jumped to another and stayed logged in. So, curiosity got the better of me and I started jumping from category to category, to see if I was logged out, and I was not. That's something that aggravated me to no end (as a user), the login not being centralized, and I only READ. I can't imagine what a pain that must've been to the authors. This was done thanks to two very talented much younger than me coders.
-
Ya know, the whole idea is to integrate the archive and forum as much as we can. By not having different groups to login to, for example, as those are now here; and other things that you'll be seeing done.
-
Actually, am in progress of doing this right now. I just have to do some edits in some globals to disable that required login that shows up on the index when you go to it. I already set the board to allow for guest viewing this morning. In just a couple of areas for now.
-
Yep, same here. Apology wasn't even necessary.....
-
Errrm.... Acal posted that here so that those who need to be made aware of it and handle this, can. And yes, advertising in the archive is not allowed.
-
In the forum software, yes, we do.
-
First of all, I don't believe a spam blocker is even a feasible option with the way the archive is currently written to work. I'm not the one to ask, this is just a guess on my part. The spam blocker at mediaminer is set to make sure it's a real person, since login is not required for reviewing. Second, having looked at the threads in question, I agree with the other posters, in that it's in all probability the same person, just that she created a different login. You've probably wandered around other archives as well, and these kinds of reviews are common, unfortunately for you authors. In fiction archives where underagers are allowed, you see this all OVER the place. They're not bots, just KIDS. Usually around 13ish.

NO ONE is going on a troll list for having legitimate questions. To my way of thinking, that would be an unacceptable action. Rants are okay. I may not like them, but you all need to vent now and again, and I understand that. Having said all that, I will say this now. I think this thread has been done to death. You all have legitimate concerns. Bring them to me privately if you would. Pm or email, or if you want to find me in a messenger, that would work too. I'm on three of the damn things and easily accessible. I have no problems in talking to any one of you. If I see any more posts that I consider inflammatory in any way, shape or form to this topic, I will be locking it. I don't give a damn who posts it. Discuss things. Argue with each other if you need to. Get fiesty. But no more picking each other apart, making personal attacks on one another over something that is over and done with. We all need to move forward, and accept that there is no going back. You have a different crew in some places, and old crew that you never were able to access before for the archive (and can now, here), plus a few who stayed WITH us in the forum from the old moderators. I've already invested in the last 4 days alone something along the lines of 20 man hours into what I'm doing to make this a more functional forum (that's in a tech sense, has nothing to do with any of you as posters). I'd really like to be able to go back to doing that, and not having to sift through any more of this inflammatory bullshit. Lastly, I apologize to all of you for having not stepped in previously to stop any personal attacks. Those are unacceptable to me, and always have been.

Can you provide a link to the user or review?
-
I think that's the best way to go about this as well. There's no sense in creating a category if there MAY be a story for it. Better to do it after there's something that actually can be placed there. Hey KitBaiu, wouldn't Metalocalypse be in Cartoons category since it's a cartoon on Adult Swim?
-
I've pm'd you some information, as well as contacted via pm and email (all addresses I have), Jaxxy, on your behalf. Hope this helps.
-
urkkk you're right xax...sorry just got off a 13 hour sleep jag...makes my head fuzzy
-
Okay, as everyone has seen, there's already one new main category. There will quite likely be one or two others besides, before I'm through. In one for instance I'm thinking of, at least one of the forums will end up actually being its own category. Much of this, as I said, I can actually do before the software is even upgraded. Which is what this part is. I'm also in the process of working up some selectable skins for the upgraded version. Some of the skins I have in mind for future I'm not even going to get into uploading for this forum. This forum's version is incompatible to later versions for skinning. (For those who don't know, skins are what you see when you are here, the cosmetics).
-
I agree with xax on avoiding the forum games..... not my thing, really. But, I am here, doing what I'm supposed to. Which doesn't necessarily mean I gotta POST.
-
Are you uploading as a text or html file? for formatting- <em></em>=bold <i></i>=italics
-
Be sure to follow the format that Solaris set up, it's easy to use. What will NOT be added: categories which would more properly be story tags, and/or belong in the description single character categories canon character/ofc or omc/canon character categories which do NOT have a story either already uploaded for it, or one available for upload. What we're looking for to add a pair specific category: That there are 5 or more stories available to move to it upon creation. I do need to SEE that these 5 stories do exist, so when making your request, be sure to add the links to the 5 stories with the specific pair. Quarterly maintenance: Following the overall archive cleanup, we will be monitoring subcategories for activity. If a category, for example, was created for a user, and there have never been stories added to it after about 3 months, it will be deleted. It's not necessary to maintain a blank subset in any given table, and in fact can slow things down over time.
-
Thankee! I am in the process of moving some stuff around from some of the other subforums that actually belong in that new category and it's subforums.
-
Wow. That's a tough lot in life you've had to face. One of my biggest problems is being too terse and short worded for most (leads to almost instant misunderstanding), and some other stuff that I can't get into right now....as I'm on my way to work.

The forums will be taking over the functions of the Yahoo groups. That's all part of what's going to happen in the near future. Once that substructure to replace them is up (you'll see 'em when I finish that up) then yes, links to those subforums will be on the archive, instead of to only an email address, or formerly the Yahoo groups. Knorg, What you're saying about a tiny proportion of the site users overall using the forum is right. That's part of what we all want to change. This is the community for the whole, so we need to USE it that way. Whether for socializing, or reporting, or whatever. Anyway, provided my job doesn't get all squirrelly again, and I have yet another damn schedule change ; I should be able to do a little bit of that yet today (some of the forum restructuring), after I get home from work later this evening. As I've been saying all along, much of what I'll be doing immediately you guys won't even see until your next login, and won't impact the board at all, other than a visible difference in structure in some places. Snow, As to what the upcoming upgrade entails insofar as you being a bit leery of potential problems, the bulk of anything I do, I do offline first, then I test it to be sure it will work, and THEN I make the changes. At least that's how I do it for modifications. By doing things that way, I've found over the years that adding a mod to a board like this is actually not much of a hassle for the users. It's only when I've just gone ahead and done it, without testing my changes that I've run into problems before. During the actual upgrade process, the board itself will be offline for MAYBE a few hours. Depending on how long it takes to convert its older self to its new self. I won't get into the details, because unless yer a geek for this kind of thing, it'll bore you to tears.

foeofthelance--- (BTW, like the username ) I'm here because of what I know how to do with the forum software. That is truly the core of my function here. I've been working with Invisionboard for many years, and there is much that can be done to enhance and improve the board and how it works overall. That's all part of my upcoming tasks you know. I appreciate the fact that you are willing to wait and see just what is going to happen. Thank you for that, and understanding that some things just don't happen overnight, nor does a person necessarily have the time to MAKE some things happen overnight, due to real life obligations. As to this being a closed community, in my opinion that was an inefficient usage of this board. It should be a place where all the archive users can meet and greet, as well as other things that are already done on the board currently. I think it's fun to get to know authors whose work I've enjoyed over the years. This is the place to do it, too. No reason why not, right? Yes, many of you were here first (in the forum, that is) , and maybe somewhat set in your ways, but if you think about it, we can in fact all get used to each others quirks and personalities. In any case, what's the harm in looking at this as all part of whole, and not a separate entitiy? It's truly not it's own animal, but a part of AFF as well. Shirotaka-- Yes, the site's primary is the fiction archive, but this is also a part of the site. The discussion board of the site.
