  1. *sighs* dunno if we're planning on doing that, but it'd be a long time before it would happen, if so. We have loads more work that MUST be done before adding something like that as a feature. Aside from that, there is the question of protecting the member db at large from spam harvesters, among other things. Which is why email addresses themselves are hidden currently. Plus, we have no way in that piece of software to allow for secure mail, like you can do here in forum. By that I mean that if a user wants send another mail, the forum automatically masks your sending mail information and shows it as coming from the forum. So, as you can see, there is much to just mail funtions in programs like this in general that has to be looked at.
  2. banned self for not having time to do jack shit to wreak havoc
  3. banned for threatening to attack a fellow guild member
  4. Let's see.... There's this entire section. Devoted to nothing BUT contests. Then of course in the fan fiction forums there are individual challenge forums for the different archive components. Anime forum category with linkage to the subforums within......you'll notice a subforum specifically for challenges/requests. Non Anime forum category again, see the contained subforums....each particular forum category (i.e. hp, lotr, etc) ALL have a forum for posting challenges and requests. And so on throughout most of the rest of the fan fiction subforums. I'm not quite finished with that setup yet, as it is being done concurrent to the long term project I've got going, so there is some more tweaking/adding you'll be seeing in the near future. If you've got specific contest ideas you'd like to see us implement, pm manta2g with your request/suggestion as she is the listed moderator for the contest sections both here and in the archive.
  5. banned fer being my next victim!
  6. The archive does not support email updates of stories at this point in time. The software itself doesn't have the capacity to do that.
  7. Unfortunately, some of it you won't see for quite awhile. There are other things that have to be done to facilitate much of what many of you would like to see. Like stories in their right categories, easier tagging for stories, that sort of thing. Lotta background work that has to be done before we get to doing many things. That being the case, you won't necessarily SEE it, 'til it's actually done.
  8. Are there stories for it? That's part of how the restructure is being done you know. Categories with pre-existing stories, and it would really need to be more than say one or two stories ya know.
  9. make it a gif or jpg and then try again. A jpg is usually smaller than a png, file size wise.
  10. That section is a mess ain't it? That (which is very much a WIP) is what is likely to happen structurally once we're able to go more than 3 levels of categories, which we currently cannot. Of course, that's also a long term project, in terms of the initial scripting revisions and then the actual work involved moving the stories around so that they still remain linked with their reviews. In the meantime, so we have a record of 'em, there's already a forum for misplaced stories. Just post linkage so we know right where to look to get started, in moving fics from categories they don't belong in.
  11. that sounds something like shepherd's pie. Which is very similar...
  12. In your profile view, it no longer displays your birthday. It only displays your age.
  13. My thoughts in doing this modification are not to browbeat anyone into donating. Far from it. It's more a convenience thing. Meaning, I could easily set it up once the modification itself is done for one time type with different specified amounts, or a recurring thing, or whatever. Kinda depends on what the users would need it to do as far as how I'd go about setting that all up. I 'spose if I do this, I'll have to put somewhere that this IS optional, and certainly not a requirement.
  14. *snickers* Something that comes up from time to time with my husband is something he calls "left nut logic". In other words, I can't know, or understand, because i don't have said equipment. Requires left nut logic to GET it. 'spose you gotta be there, but it's usually pretty funny when he goes off on one those tangents.

    100!

hehe good for you! Maybe I should create some medals for achievements like this. Could display the images using the awards modification.
  16. You got the right idea! You could put a link in the beginning of your chapter as well to let your reviewers know where to find you to discuss it. Of course, it would have to be a link they could copy/paste, because it won't work otherwise.
  17. If you all don't mind, I'd love to see pro and con answers to this. It'll help.
  18. Actually, as I said to begin with, that one sentence (at the end of your original post) is what made me look twice at what you were attempting to do with this topic. I've been administering/moderating various forums for well over 8 years, so sentences like that are an automatic red flag, which means I will watch. Period. That sort of sentence is CLASSIC flame baiting. As to playing favorites? Sorry, not in my nature to do so. Of course, you can believe what you like with that. Think about it though. IF I was playing favorites, this topic would've been locked already, the participant who I was "targeting" to support my "favorite" would be moderated and unable to post were I supposedly took offense on behalf of another user who I was being percieved as playing favorites with. It hasn't been though, has it? Nor have any users posting abilities been restricted. You would have felt up close and personal why it is I have a reputation as a HAMMER in other forums, now wouldn't ya (if I was playing favorites)? Anyway, moving on... The topic has great potential to bring up concerns which can be addressed and looked into. There's already something that came up as a result of this which could, in fact, make it easier on users in the future for general searching and a quick overview before even clicking a story link. I won't say more about it, until I'm told whether or not it's doable in future archive versions. I expect that it will be. Techically, it's just another form field after all.
  19. Feel free to start a game like this in the forum games section. While I know I'd not have anything to contribute to it, it would certainly be funny to read. Just a couple of the examples in this topic are hysterical! @greenwizard- you should just write what comes to you, never mind that a few people have problems with words. Honestly, I think most of what you're seeing as far as a rant regarding all this is more the overuse of a particular word/phrase in a paragraph.
  20. yep, it's currently a completely useless link. Does nothing but open up a subscription option with no selections. @DarkInuLord - yeah my bills tend to make me broke (at best) 99% of the time too. Sucks, don't it?
  21. You know, a good place to see evolution at work (in a human intervention sort of way) is by observing what animal breeders do with the breeds they work with. They pick and choose which animals to breed with each other based on certain traits. As this is something that is not selected naturally, of course many times the traits have no useful purpose other than to please some person's sense of aesthetics more often than not. Naturally, most of these encouraged mutations (the Sphinx cat comes to mind as example) are often of a nature which would actually be detrimental to the animal in the wild for survival. Hence, natural selection would then breed the trait OUT. My whole point there is that just observing something like animal breeding can show you no deity involvement whatsoever.
  22. I've always enjoyed the fact that my little brother is so much younger than I as well. If I were facing the prospect of parenthood these days, I'd be terrified as well. As it is, there were enough extra added things that I had to deal with with mine, that was different from when my parents were raising me, that it was more than a little stressful to begin with at the time. Parenting is tough enough to begin with.
  23. The database tables are fine, just checked them. Checked the content of them as well, all the data is intact in the tables. Please bear with us, the tech who would correct this is not at her computer at the moment. This will be resolved as soon as we can for you.
  24. I'm sure it was neither. However, this will be looked into for you ASAP.
  25. Anyway, as I said a long time ago, when asked about it, it's pretty useless as it sits. NORMALLY when one enables that in a forum like this, it's for user levels. Of course, we don't do that here. A good example of that would be a forum where I go to download games for the arcade. With my paid membership of $3 a year, I can get a certain amount of games daily. In order to get unlimited downloads, I have to pay. Alot more. They do that through the "purchase paid subscriptions" in the user CP (My Controls). Was going through one of the forums I frequent for modifications and such, and came across something that would let me change that from a subscription panel to a donation panel. I think that could be convenient for those members who choose to do that. Which is why I looked some more at the modification. In essence, it would work just like the paypal button or the donate link in the archive. So what I'm asking all of you for is your opinions of a modification like this, and if I should even bother doing it. NO, this wouldn't make this a mandatory thing either, to make the modification so that it works for that. That's entirely up to the USER on what to do.
