*sighs* This is all the beginnings of the reworking and cleaning up the entire archive, subdomain by subdomain. These particular fics you'll find in the het category, as that is where they were moved to.

As to pairings, I work with information I'm given. Particularly in a fandom I'm not familiar with. Again, once we start going THROUGH these things, a section at a time, I'm sure I'll find more pairs. As I said earlier, this is just the beginning. Recategorizing and reordering merely sets things up for the overall cleanup of the archive as a whole. The DELETION of the categories you mentioned was announced. They will not be returning. If you publish a fic in response to a challenge, it goes in it's appropriate category, with a note in the description that it is in response to a challenge. All searching/looking for type stories will be deleted as they are found. Same with RP stories. There is MUCH that is going to happen. Granted, not everyone will be happy with what is going on. That's a GIVEN. However, what is being done is for the health of what we have currently in place. I'd much rather not have the whole thing die unrecoverably because it's overloading the sql server due to query overloads. The query load is already lessened CONSIDERABLY now, because of what has been done so far. IF I didn't have this 3 category limitation to work wthin, the query load would've been cut even more already. But I do, so there is only so much that this will fix insofar as the actual query loads. Then there is the bandwidth consideration. The archive handles post insert data very differently from the forum. THAT is why those particularl categories are coming here. I don't care if I EXACTLY duplicated all the data, chapter by chapter, the forum db would still not exceed, say 500MB with all that chapter data. The archive db, on the other hand, WAS at 6.2GB. Every chapter uploaded is actually a file that ends up being anywhere from 500k to 2+MB per chapter. A forum post doesn't exceed 50k in size. EVER. Believe me, we are well aware the search engine sucks. That's being NICE by the way. Nothing can be done about it yet, but it is being worked on and looked at to either make the current one better, or replace it entirely. It's LIKELY that the search function will be replaced entirely in the rewrite that is in progress.

Yes, it meant what it sounded like. It's in het or slash, depending on what the pairing was (OFC/OMC). This doesn't just make life simpler for the programmers, it helps the PROGRAM run better by recategorizing. That's more important. I'm doing what I'm doing to REDUCE the load on the hardware framework, in a few very important ways. Also, this is a critical step in what is coming next which is the overall cleanup and moving the stories around altogether. This has been done in OTHER subdomains as well, so I don't foresee where those category types will be restored.

I didn't feel it, but I sure did HEAR about it from the store customers.

All done with setting up the ages things for the books in LotR. Set the one category with description that it will be moved to celebrities. We'll be sorting it from there, I'm sure , as the category has 521 stories, so there will be some additional switching around once it's moved. (It'll end up a top level in celebs due to how many stories there are in that section).

Merged data, moved the one story to its right category, deleted the duplicate

HP is done for now.. Mpreg stories are now in slash OMC/OFC stories are in their respective pair type categories Lists and Virtual Hogwarts stories are moved to general The above listed categories no longer exist, but the stories were moved, so are still there. Pair specific - all have been moved to their respective pair type categories as a sub level. Also, until we complete the cleanup part (which this is not, this is set up for that), the pair specific categories with less than 10 stories will stay up. Once, after we've gone through each archive's set of stories, if the pair category criteria is still not met, those stories will be moved into the pair type category, and the pair specific category will be gone. For the Comics zone, I'm still kicking around a few ideas, so am leaving that for a bit later. The Historical link, looks like it more properly should be merged back into books misc, as that is what zone this link lives in to begin with. Will continue to look at that, and make a final determination later. LotR is next... This one will actually be fairly straightforward to set up. There will be new top level categories corresponding to the AGES in this series for the books. The movieverse will pretty much stay the same other than some tweaking, as it is quite different from bookverse. LotR Stars will be getting moved to Celebrities zone, where it more properly belongs. So, those stories will be moved into a renamed category of "to be moved to celeb", and the subcategories there all merged into that.
-
allllrighty then.... hmm well, we don't actually qc things for the archive, but a non category can be merged into a real category.
-
celebs is done, finally. ugh.
-
If they list a phone contact (which they should, most companies do), my next step would be to CALL them.
-
as a top level? That's what I'm thinking for those others as well. And....since there seems to be quite a few webcomics, that's probably a good idea

For the most part, while we are cleaning the databases, are my fault. Give the server about 10 seconds and then try again. What it means, is that after doing a bunch of data manipulation and/or deletions, I have to repair and then optimize the tables I was working in. By running these tasks, it keeps the databases healthy so the programs continue to run correctly.
-
they reuploaded instead of moving it. No prob, I'll merge the stuff over from the one to the other, then delete the duplicate after making sure everything is in the right section.

Am actually starting the category reordering now

something else we discussed at length (manta2g and I) was moving the "LotR Stars" top level entirely out of the LotR archive. Those are technically CELEBRITY fanfictions, so that is where they're going to live. -
In the site news section, for the archive, everyone was made aware that the challenge/request, beta, searching for a fic, rants/journals subcategories are all slated for deletion. I've already done this JUST to the anime zone. The end result was what I expected, which was faster script execution, less queries, better overall load time, and a 400mb savings in the archive db. I'm going through the other spots I've already recategorized to do the same. I will be doing this concurrently with the recategorization of all the rest. Then, it's on to launching the actual CLEANUP of the thing. I want to be certain that all who visit the forums are aware that those categories will not exist for much longer. There others, little oddball things in different zones, but most of that I'm actually merging into a different category.

There should be a dropdown where you select the story codes, after filling out the description (I think). I'll have to play around with it a little to make sure.
-
As far as I'm aware, there is no limit. Sometimes, your connection may drop a data packet, in which case, simply try again and it should work

People whom hate the president place your complaints here

That's how I feel as well. I don't know this man as a PERSON, so I can't personally hate HIM. However, I can and DO, strongly disagree with, and for the most part dislike his policies. As to how he got two terms? That's easy. First term he was allowed to steal, second term, alot of people voted for him because (and believe it or not thsi was a common response) "he seemed like a nice guy to have come to a barbeque or have a beer with". ugh Hasn't anyone ever heard of researching a candidate's record before voting? It's all public record, after all. -
or they may be lost in the sea of many many sub categories.....I've not given up on looking yet, but...fresh eyes certainly help

This person, who went by the name "greeniesshadow" here at AFF is a plagiarist and troll. Here are the two stories this user stole: The first is called Roses Among the Ashes. The original story is by Greenie, also titled "Roses Among the Ashes" The second is entitled "Gently with the Dawn". The original author, Greenie, has only published this so far on y!gallery, not here. That is irrelevant, however, as theft is theft. This user who likes to steal from others has also decided to use an alias email, i_am_animehead@hotmail.com, in order to HARASS Greenie via email. Naturally, I do happen to know that this is not the user we all kinow here as animehead (both in archive and forum). So, if anyone has gotten any kind of troll or flame mail from this person, PLEASE be aware that it's not animehead doing it. It's this person who has been deleted from AFF, who went by the name greeniesshadow.

I've had no luck so far....maybe someone else with fresh eyes can see what I missed?
