  1. I’m curious what the difference is between the two. I’ve been playing with a story idea and the idea of proxy play has come up.

However, I wonder at one point does it end up becoming cuckolding?

Here’s the general idea, Mary and Sarah have unresolved sexual tension between each other and while not being willing to talk about it or get it on with each other, they will sometimes sleep with each other’s male exes. Sometimes Mary is there when Sarah is getting it on with a guy and other times Sarah is there when Mary is getting it on with a guy. Or one of them mentions it to the other later.

As the subtext between Mary and Sarah becomes text, is there a point at which it becomes cuckolding? Do Mary and Sarah have to have actually slept together before the proxy play becomes cuckolding?

More broadly speaking, I’m definitely tired of the “AI slop” on YouTube. It particularly bugs me when the video is supposed to be about something factual, because you don’t know whether the AI is using actual facts or just making stuff up.

Totally get that although I haven’t seen much of it. Most of the YouTube videos I watch aren’t using AI.

  3. At the moment, I’m mostly using AI for stories that I’m almost certainly not going to write. I have like 50 story ideas that I came up with before AI was a thing that I’m slowly working my way through using my brain.

What I’m using it for is fun stuff. For example, there’s a couple of soap opera characters that I’d love to be an actual couple but it’s unlikely to actually be a thing. AFF actually has a couple stories from that soap opera on the site but not with any of the characters that I’m thinking of. So AI helps me have fun with the idea. There’s almost no chance I will ever write them myself or put it out there into the world. That way the idea isn’t nagging me to write it instead of what I’m currently writing.

Oh, trust me, I imagine the number of people who have actually read the Terms of Service are a distinct minority compared to those who are shocked, shocked, I tell you, to find out we have rules. They won’t be any more likely to observe site restrictions on AI, and yes, that is a deeply cynical point of view.

I’m fairly certain that I read at least parts of it if not the whole thing. But yes, that’s probably true about the terms of service for most people.

IMHO, for this site (and similarly for AO3), what most people are against is the AI slop.  (Feed a prompt to Chat GPT, get a “novel” from it.  TBH, quite sophisticated and impressed it’s gotten as well as it has; basically a million typewriter monkeys that have some pattern recognition grasp at what the humans are seeking.)

I don’t think folks would be against you using something like grammarly, or similar spell/grammar checker with some AI backing to it.  I don’t think they’d be really against you using an AI created image as a writing prompt/aid to help visualize the scene you’re about to write/describe. I don’t think that’s at a level of needing disclosure.  But then we get closer to the gray line with something like an AI character profile, backstory, or it helping you finish/write a scene.

Right now, if AI is forming a substantial chunk of the writing process, disclosure is likely the best policy, and let the reader decide if they want to continue or not.  (Just remember, you’re still on the hook for whatever you post.)

I suspect that you’re probably right about a lot of your view of it. However, I think it makes sense to have this generally laid out on the site somewhere. That way people can’t claim that they didn’t know.

It’s also devaluing to be accused of using AI for writing simply because you like dashes, ellipses, or using proper grammar.

Agreed.  Where you REALLY see AI is in some of those visual books on Youtube.  Hubs likes to listen to them.  Mind you, I’ve read countless sci-fi books, so when he’s listening, I can usually tell him which book and/or author they’re stealing from 🤣

Oh I totally get that but there are some who could really use the help. I’ve seen stories where like every sentence is it’s own paragraph or half a sentence is a paragraph. Say what you want about AI but it usually involves structuring stuff pretty well.

I’ve been accused of sharing AI images for stuff that I have no idea if it is or not. I just happened to find it on the internet, like a meme or something. The evidence one person used is that a “human being would never make a mistake like that image”. But the problem is that the very type of mistake that “proves” that it’s AI is something humans do all the time… make mistakes.

You may be experiencing what I do.  Which is your connection may be unstable.  When that happens, the archive draws improperly, or refuses to load at all.

Possibly. I have had this before but it’s weirdly correcting itself. For a while I as getting an extremely large font for the forum. Now it’s back to just slightly off in terms of being aligned.

Well, due to work, I haven’t gotten any work done, and we’re down to five days counting today.

But if what Invidia and George said is true, and you all are ok with this even if it’s a week late or something, let’s see what I can get done quickly!

    *opens word processor*

Yes, sadly I’m not going to be able to put anything up this year. Probably next year.

I think you mean this thread:  https://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/topic/73048-does-aff-have-a-policy-on-ai-generated-fanfic/#comment-445291

So far, we haven’t developed a formal policy. As we’ve been talking about over in the status updates, Chat GPT so far has filters in place to prevent it from generating adult content, which is our milieu. That’s not to say that “clever” folks haven’t managed to jailbreak it, and there’s talk about creating a system to allow verified adults to write adult content.

So, it is on the radar but not yet an issue thus far. Will it become an issue? My good gold is on yes, because Rule 34 exists.

Well part of me thinking about it again is that I’ve found one that has some looser rules around filtering stuff. I’ve also seen some AI image creators that have looser rules around what it can create. Obviously the image thing is not really an issue for this site. My intention at this point isn’t to post anything that I didn’t write myself. Everything I’m posting now was completely from my crazy human brain.

However I have also seen some stories that could use a formatting and spelling pass which AI could help with.

I look forward to your entry should you choose to do so

I worry I can’t contain myself to a short story though. Although that might be an interesting challenge. To see if I can do something that quickly. I once wrote a 30 page story (which is currently on AFF) in 48 hours.

I’m all about the stamina. :)

Sounds like you got an idea already :D

Perhaps, although my initial feeling is that it’s not Halloween enough. My basic outline has a woman getting out of a sudden rain storm and happening upon a lone cabin with a guy inside. They ride out the storm together, both literally and figuratively. Many dark twists could be done from this.

You could always do a flashfic. I’m sometimes amazed by the stories some people can tell in 500 words or less.

I suppose. There is an idea which came to me recently for a fanfic. It’s not directly Halloween related but certainly could be. There’s a fantasy fulfillment aspect to the story which could involve wearing outfits. Not sure if I could finish in 500 words though.

Vamp fics can be such fun!

Yes although they can also go down a dark path, for obvious reasons. I wrote a somewhat more upbeat vampire story that’s already on the site.

The ones I’m thinking about are probably the darkest stories I’ve written. Which isn’t necessarily my own cup of tea but I had an impulse.

  14. Sadly, I don’t think in poem style generally. Sounds  like it would be fun. I have a couple stories that could theoretically be Halloween themed (dark vampire stuff), but not in poetic form.

    Also not original fiction.

  15. Is there a way I can default to a particular theme by bookmarking it or something?

Now a thing that I’m seeing is that the AFF logo is huge and the alignment is way off but if I change themes it’s better. However, I have to go down to the bottom of the page and click on the correct theme.

Just looking at the link though, it is the same with the bad alignment and the good alignment. So maybe I can’t?

It’s definitely a skin issue with the theme.  I get the same issues as you when I run the page in the AFF New 2 (default) theme.  AFF IVPB4, AFF New, and Dynamic Theme don’t give me those issues.

In other words, it’s not Firefox… it’s the theme. Try switching to one of the themes that are working for me, and see if that helps.

Hmm, okay. It looks like it did fix the issue but it’s still somewhat strange. Now I’ll have to go looking to figure out if I can do that status update thing I was having trouble with before.

  17. 1 minute ago, BronxWench said:

    What theme are you using?

I’m not sure which one but it’s whatever the basic one. As far as I know I haven’t changed it from whatever the one is the default.

It’s certainly possible that this is a browser problem on my end. I only started noticing this when I did a completely new reinstall of the system I’m using and installed the newest version of Firefox. Before I did this, I didn’t see anything like this except that I couldn’t do a personal status update post like many of you do. I still can’t.

Also, not to put more into the issue, but there’s this.
