Some people talk during sex. Seriously. To my mind, it means you’re not doing it right, but your mileage may vary.

It’s definitely contextual. If I’m writing something set in a modern setting, with rough characters, there will be swearing. If it’s more of a gracious setting, the swearing might be replaced with more elegant language but conveying the same intent. Of course, if I go for ancient Rome and the legions, those lads swore like mad (which could be my favorite part of Latin, come to think of it).

Counted… four orgasms in the last chapter I wrote.  Pretty rare to actually get curse words, or even anything sharply worded, in them.  Profanity’s kinda like a spice or flavoring, like garlic, cinnamon, or vanilla; a little bit goes a long ways.  (Though I do tend to overdo garlic, tend to switch “clove” => “bulb” when I add it in.)

This is off topic, but you should check out an anime called “Food Wars”. There's 36 volumes in the manga, and the manga actually has practical recipes for the food that they're cooking in the show!
But getting back on topic, it is definitely true that profanity in the correct spots can actually enhance the effectiveness of an attempt at communication, but too much shows not only articulation inadequacies but literacy inadequacies as well.

Agreed. This is basically what I’m saying, summed up nicely.
A good exercise people suffering from this problem can do to correct it is to pull a scenario out of the air (completely random), and write the sex scene without using any profanity whatsoever. After a while, it’ll become habit.
Although I could probably supliment my own exercises with some basic forum posting study so that I’m not quoting posts from other threads when I’m trying to quote someone here (LOL!).

If a writer needs to advertise it’s a sex scene in order to be a “sex scene”, then I’d think something is lacking in the writing.  Now, in certain contexts, a “fuck me” or “bang me” might be indicative of a character’s personality, or maybe there’s a scenario the two (or more) are roleplaying.  (Though, I suppose you could have it be solo, somebody watching a B/C grade porn film.)
Now, in the sex scenes I write, if there’s profanity, something’s going seriously wrong for the characters, or a copper’s busting them.

I got into fanfiction (& writing) specifically due to the long hiatus between the potter releases… there was a three year gap between GoF & Ootp & subsequent books.  So mine’s basically a “continue the story and speculate” type of story.  Now that OotP & others have released, I do have more of canon to leverage (characters, places, etc), so I do that, however, plot wise, it’s still post GoF story, not Ootp or later.  (And my story’s likely reaching the 1.4M mark tomorrow…. on my drive)

Like Bronx, I basically post as I go, or at least that’s the goal.  I’ll wait a short while, preferably a week and a chapter, before I proofread.  If I can keep it to a schedule, such as consistently post on Saturday or something, that gives it predictability.

Um… multiple locations (Ron had taken something to let him recover/reuse fast), which meant four separate sets of citations.  The “cleaner” version of the story lets the reader construct the date from Harry listing the citations, while the “explicit” version shows the date details   Thus for citations 3 & 4:
“Ought to demand a refund,” Harry said, “Clearly an all–you–can–eat buffet should include a free banger.”
“Aw,” Harry said, “Guess the opera didn’t appreciate you two climaxing at their climax.”

Not sure about reading them… writing them is fun, and this reminded me of my potter fanfic, where after a date by Ron/Hermione into London, had Harry reading the citations for public/lewd acts.  “See you made the train. … was the queen in residence?”  And a couple more.

On this archive (or AO3), always, always list trigger tags.  While yes it’s technically a spoiler, you don’t want to surprise your readers  with a “surprise” rape scene or something.

Happened in the early internet startup era too… “shares of the company” BS.  Nah, collect a paycheck.  Stock & options are nice extras, but…  “Exposure” doesn’t pay the bills… unless you’re doing it in a gentlemen’s/ladies’ nightclub after hours, or for only fans.

Hmm… maybe mention two chapters in the summary?  Skip the WIP tag, and once archive lets you edit, shove in the COMPLETE tag?  Also, stick “THE END” at the end of the second chapter, readers will get that bit..

Technically, my potter fanfic is now AU due to exactly that (it’s post GOF, but still good IMO, so I keep chugging away at it)

Yeah, I wrote a Star Vs. the Forces of Evil fic during the long-ish hiatus between seasons 1 and 2 that ended up being very non-canon. I added a note at the beginning letting readers know about that and advising them to think of the story as an alternate version of season 2.

Yeah, funny enough the first fanfic I ever wrote was written a year before my main fandom ended.

But yeah, this time seems to be right after it ended. In fact I technically predicted the ending of the series in some ways. I wrote a story suggesting a foursome of sorts, and apparently that happened in the show.

Lol, yeah. I have this problem it seems.

I think what seems to be happening is that I’m getting inspired by the end of a recent show I’m a fan of. They gave me what I wanted in terms of a pairing I like, or close enough to it anyway. So now the fandom is pushing me to have ideas. Both the original story that inspired this post and the most recent plot bunny are in the same fandom.

Usually I don’t get what I want from a fandom, but this time I sorta did. Two female characters hooked up that I’ve been waiting to see happen since the beginning of the show. I think it’s screwing with my head.

Possibly, although it’s not necessarily a lesson heavy story. I kinda like the idea of specifying who’s getting the lesson or the teacher in the chapter title.

There are probably 3 chapters out of 12 sorta have “lessons” part of this.
