It’s the Joey and Chandler problem from Friends. They found out they had access to free porn all the time and suddenly every thought turns in that direction.
Sadly, I don’t deliver pizzas.

Hello, all.
AI generated art is nearly worthless at its very best. More frequently, it is completely worthless, or worse. It will absolutely hallucinate, or “deliberately” get things wrong. Beyond putting gibberish on signs of all kinds, it just naturally screws things up. People don’t match the descriptions you give it. Cars, as in real, actual cars where you could Google pictures of real ones, it screws them up, and badly. Honestly, a better “bribe” would be to not generate AI art.
Cheers!

Could’ve been a legit account that got hacked. AFAIK, Discord’s pretty responsive to complaints. As to art, find a real artist (there’s likely websites for that), or figure out chat GPT yourself.

TBH, the flattery can be nice. The last one I got on AO3… the spammer took a moment to read the chapter (or had AI do it), And according to what I’ve read, the request to other websites for comms, will eventually lead to $$ demands. Not sure if they *actually* produce AI generated art or not, but $$ and fanfiction mix as well as gasoline/matches .

That’s the part that had me on my recent AO³ one. They made a more specific comment, like they did read (or more likely skim) the chapter. Thus, if I could redact the scam/contact info out of the comment, I would’ve preferred keeping the first bit.

I got a message like this a few months back, something like “I’m an artist who read your stories and would love to do a few pieces based on them!” I was legit kind of hyped at first, but then I noticed how suspiciously non-specific the wording had been, like they were excited about stuff in the stories but didn’t say what in the stories they were excited about, and didn’t name any of the stories they’d been reading.
I’m sort of glad to know my instinct not to reply was probably correct.

Desiderius Price got a reaction from Deadman in Is there an archive limit on chapter size?
As a follow on, yes, I did manage to finally write past that 105k/107k (depends on using FFN vs the libreoffice’s word counter) old chapter on the rewrite… became like 126 chapters or something like that. Now tackling that 91k old chapter and wondering how long that’ll end up
For Repair Guy, I did experiment, overall successfully with deliberately keeping them short (around 2k) … though it’s rewrite has stalled.

On the practical side, I’d suggest against super long chapters too. I’ve tried that on my potter fanfic years ago, reorganized/rewrote thinking it was a “good thing” with my highest being like 107k… nope! Not only did I lose some details in that consolidation, I also lost focus to the chapter too. Small details/scenes were now one/two sentences in basically a wall of text. (Which it became as FFN.net somehow seemingly lost all my carriage returns, so it was one big “blob”; and a fast re-insert of them is how I uncovered FFN’s new 65k max per chapter limit.)
I’m still pulling that 107k old chapter apart right now with my “rewrite” … though I’ve now got at least 121 in its place, which is probably close to 1M words itself as I now hover around the 6-7k words per chapter average, and if the chapter nears the 10kword mark, I seek to break it up. Even in my Jefferey episodic story, I’ll effectively do “part 1” and “part 2”.

The technical limit would be a @manta2g or @DemonGoddess type of question, and it’d be in bytes, not words.
I know we’ve had some of the annual halloween/holiday round-robin submissions where it’s 50k max for the rules, but that’s more of a reader tolerance limit IMO. In comparison, AO3 limits it to 500k characters, and FFN limits your documents to 5MB (and will stop adding to the word count at 65k words).

They just spam that crap all over. I feel bad for vulnerable users who might think it is genuine and get scammed :(

Suggest updating the age verification popup itself to have those steps listed next to it with “If you get stuck...”? Not sure the effort there, just an idea.

Desiderius Price got a reaction from Deadman in Upgrade & Hit Counters
Numbers…. for several mine (I generally record in the mornings):
Dale’s Game – Jan 1st @ 3704. 20th @ 3711. 28th @ 3791 Repair Guy – Jan 1st @ 5087. 20th @ 5099. 28th @ 5238. Jefferey – Jan 1st @ 19218. 20th @ 19261. 28th @ 19514. Thus, many dozens/hundreds. So if it’s genuine on the increase, that’s good. If it was, for whatever reason, being under-counted before, and that’s fixed, that’s good. My worry was it being bogus due to a glitch as I know how code can go.

TBH, having the pictures match is likely a good thing for users recognizing the author of their favorite (or least favorite) stories, when browsing the forums.

And it makes it easier for users to quickly recognise and avoid whatever horrific crime against fiction I’ve committed! Everyone’s a winner :)
