  1. Dude, that’s incredible. A two to three chapter scene? I can barely stick with a plot point for that long, lmao. I mean, I enjoy good story in erotica because (to me at least) it makes the actual scenes way more impactful. I want to care about the characters, not just what’s in their pants! I do write original, but I feel like the general principle is the same.
  2. And is there even such a thing? Lol. And I don’t mean irl, because that’s your own damn business, but I woke up this morning with this burning question! For my story, my general rule of thumb is about one or two scenes per chapter (but my chapters are kind of long, in the 7k – 10k range), but part of the writing process is being able to admit that you could be wrong! So what do you find readers react to? I try to focus on action, humor, fantasy and sex obviously in no particular order. Am I that idiot who tries to put a story in porn or what?
  3. Lmao, I’m a girl, idk why I was so cagey about it before.

I think maybe we’re all comfortable with how fucked up we are and are less judgemental in general. That is so weird because I had the opposite experience back when I was a teenage girl on a fighting game forum. When I outed myself, suddenly people started being nice to me and middle-aged men were blowing up my inbox. Ha!

Hmm… I tend to believe I’m an animal, then after that I’m human, then a thinker, then I’m a writer, then a girl. People who make judgements about me based on the last of those things are missing out on all the best stuff. And the same applies to everyone else. The interesting stuff comes before gender. Look there. :)

I am literally in love with how you worded that @pippychick <3

  4. Heeey, another old reader! Well alright, then! So good to hear from you! No worries about the rewrite, I'm sure it's gonna be great! Most of it is just in an effort to spruce up the old chapters. I might not even change some of the later ones. But definitely stick around to see what I do with the story! (I have a great new Halloween special planned ) And new updates will be here soon, so hold your breath XD
  5. Don't be so hard on yourself; you were only trying to help! I'll check out her story as soon as possible and hopefully, I can do her a good turn in your stead! XD Longer stories may take me longer to leave a review (for obvious reasons). I don't mind nominations like, 'this person is so good, please read their story and give them attention!', so post away, friends.
  6. Totally! I don't want anything in return, just to help some writers get some good concrit with some free time. I remember how important feedback was to me when I started out. I would definitely welcome anyone who wanted to join me, and of course, anyone who wants a story reviewed. Well hun, there's a difference between honesty and pointless cruelty. I gain no pleasure from the latter XD So don't be shy! If you ever feel like you need another experienced eye on your story, let me know. Hey, I might even become a fan! WIPs are totally okay! Post away!
  7. Did I read that correctly? 108 chapters? O.O That's dedication, right there (for your readers too...)! You must have been a serious potterhead XD Sometimes I worry that my story is getting too long, but you made me feel better. Yep. Once I become a famous writer, I'll go back to my roots and finish all my old fics. Then I'll write a fic about finishing all those fics XD
  8. Woah, you have a fic from 2003? You must be a really experienced writer... 25k long chapters? Lol, that's a fourth of a standard fantasy novel; I'd probably run at the sight of it XD I think I have an old Naruto fanfic from a few years ago that I don't plan to get back to... I still hate leaving things unfinished, you know? Even if I don't much care for Naruto anymore. Back when I was on FF, sometimes I'd ONLY read from the completed lists, since dropped fics were so common (then I turned around and became the author of one >.>).
  9. Wow, that makes me realize I've been lucky... I kinda play fast and loose with my story and new tags jump in all the time. I even had to put in a warning at the start that the tags will probably change XD Since then, I always try to add the new ones before the chapter goes up, and tell my readers to glance at the revised tags before continuing. Fortunately, I didn't get my head bitten off for it! Sounds like a lot of bad luck, Desiderius! But since you did it for a good story reason, that was being way too harsh XD Sorry, Melrick, we can stop if you want ;
  10. Have you ever considered a career in professional trollery? I hear it's a lucrative new job opportunity
  11. Right? That's what I thought! I don't see a lot of trolls in the originals section! What is there to even troll about? XD Oooh, I love it. Now read my story and tell me exactly WHY and HOW I suck
  12. That's true! I try to average about one update a week (like a TV show!), but sometimes I get really excited about a chapter I just finished, and it's hard to wait XD Of course, having a backlog of chapters is great for when you get busy and can't write as much. I think it's better to update at a regular pace than update a lot at one time and then have several month long hiatuses! (that's what I say, of course, but I'm guilty of long hiatuses too XD)
  13. Like I said earlier, most ratings that I saw back in the day were the highest possible (it was kinda weird to see one with less than full), so I get the feeling you were targeted by one or two unpleasant individuals. Glad to hear it all worked out. Keep on keeping on, right?
  14. That's horrible! I can't imagine someone would actually take time out of their lives to track your progress and harass you like that. I also didn't think you could rate more than once... But hey, I think if any user has trouble with a troll, they should definitely confide in the community like you did. I'm glad you didn't quit!
  15. I'm gonna try that; I just wanted to extend a hand to any forum users who may be feeling down in the dumps Today I saw a story with 13 chapters that was put up just yesterday, with no reviews. I feel terrible because the author probably worked really hard on them, but large content dumps tend to scare readers away!
  16. Definitely. Fortunately, I haven't met any of these awful people, but I can imagine how discouraging it must be, especially for new writers. I was quite sensitive when I was new. Lost a friend over it XD Can't wait to see what manta comes up with!
  17. Anon! I'm so glad you're back! XD It's great to see an old reader who still remembers me. Thanks for being patient! So, the changes I make will be mostly cosmetic, or just to inject some more action in the first half of the story. Some sex scenes might change, but all the major plot points will stay the same! You could wait and pick up right where you left off and not be confused at all I hope you'll stick around for it!
  18. Yeah, I can see how that would be a serious problem. It makes me think of youtube's old, unwieldy star rating system. I vastly prefer their thumbs up/thumbs down system (I saw this on another fiction site recently). I also like Google+'s simple +1 system (+1s are linked to profiles too). I think that one is almost impossible to misuse, and seems very chic. Whatever you decide, I do agree that reviews are quite few and far between. Sometimes you'll be lucky to snag a few gabby reviewers and sometimes... Not XD An extra parameter would be great for us writers! Haha, sorry if I'm being too gabby myself... I actually really like this forum, but I don't see many active topics XD
  19. The title says it all. You know what sucks? Spending hours and hours toiling away at a story that you know will A. never make you any money and B. is taking time away from, you know, all the other important things you should probably be doing besides describing Severus Snape's balls, to the point where you think the only reason you still do it because deep down, you're some kind of weird masochist and you must have serious problems. Then all of a sudden, you get a review, and the clouds part. As a fellow writer, I get you. Since I have some free time on my hands, and I want to liven the forum up a bit, I'll review any story you throw at me. I like originals the most, but I'll review fanfiction too. If I am unfamiliar with the fandom, I'll review the writing style and sex scenes. Regarding my tolerance level of sex: Lol. Take your best shot. I like it graphic. No GoT (sorry, that series and I don't get along) Please put in a link to your story. WARNING: I'll be honest. Other than that, play ball! One free review. No strings attached. Must be your lucky day, huh?
  20. We used to have a rating system! In fact, when I started being active on here again, I was surprised that it was gone. But to be honest, it wasn't very useful. Virtually ALL stories were the highest possible rating, barring a few that had serious grammar/spelling problems or were the target of trolls. I'm not sure it was a great indicator of quality. I would welcome a rebooted version of the rating system, though!
  21. The Human Rayce rewrite is up and running! All the links in this thread have been updated to the new version, so you can check it out there. I also deleted some of the older posts in this thread so as not to spoil future chapters While THR is receiving a substantial makeover, the major plot points will stay the same. Updates should be pretty quick, since I am refurbishing existing chapters. So let's take it from the top! 1. Gentlemen, This is War In which a certain egotistical rebel joins the army, the Police Chief has a tramp stamp, 'Yankee Doodle' is clearly about Rayce and an epic adventure begins again!
  22. Thanks for the double check! You guys have been very timely and helpful. I will be sure to contact tech support for the merge when I'm all done. Have a great day
  23. Thank you so much! I just wanted to be 100% sure. Now I can get on with obsessively rewriting something that is probably already acceptable XD
  24. Hi there, first off, I HAVE read DemonGoddess' post about rewrite procedure, but I still have some questions about it. I wrote a story that has some reviews/views that I don't want to lose, but the last time I added a chapter to it was in 2014 O.O I thought it would be a great opportunity to rewrite it significantly before continuing, but I want to know more before I make that decision. Can I create a new version of the story right now (the old version would NOT be updated anymore)? Would I be allowed to update the new version weekly or twice a week (as I finish rewriting chapters, since I can only work so fast)? When the merge does happen (which may happen in a few months), will I be able to retain the old reviews and views, AND any new review/views the new version may have gained? Thanks! Kass
  25. Never fear, new updates will soon be here! Thanks for your patience, Anon!
