I prefer my characters to switch roles, and none of my characters is exclusively a top or bottom. You're absolutely right in it being both unrealistic and outright boring. I couldn't enjoy just one position for the rest of my life, so why would I write that?
And emotional depth is what makes a character memorable. Men feel emotion, although certain societies expect men to pretend that they don't. Granted, I draw the line at the ever-sobbing perennial bottom (if I cried every time I had sex, I'd worry!), but I applaud you for letting your male characters show emotion.
As far as the little whiners who want their uke/seme pairings that never vary, I say let them read a good boy-love manga since I'm quite sure they need pretty pictures to get the point of what they're reading anyway.

    From Nexcess:
Our data center technicians have discovered a failing RAM module in the dedicated server that you have with us, affnet.nexcess.net. In our ongoing strive for reliable hosting, we continually monitor servers to ensure the hardware stays operating at it's high capacity. We'll be bringing the server down tonight between the hours of 12pm (midnight) and 2:30am EST for no longer than 15 minutes to remove the bad RAM and replace it with new a RAM chip to bring the server back up to 100% performance. We apologize for the brief downtime and as always with any scheduled maintenance, we'll make sure to perform it quickly and get the server back up and running as quickly as possible

while it might be a pain and I spend my fair amount of time cussing, it beats the last spam attack we got of over 1000 stories in multiple archives that were nothing but spam in a matter of hours. Yeah, I remember that spam attack and having literally tons of pages to go through to find actual stories (this was before I was a mod and the reason that recapta came into being on the site). It's eaten a fair share of my reviews, I'll admit to that, but I type them up in my word processing program anyway the paste over. This one, though me and it have no fondness for each other, is far better than that POS custom one Yahell has or a couple others I've seen. You might complain that some are easier but you need to remember that they are either custom written code (like for ff.net) cost money to put on. So, rather than have to deal with what we did in the past, I'd rather deal with recapta and refresh when i can't read something it kicks out to me.

Them and their damn custom crap!
    My two cents:
    1) If you are an author, you have to use them to post a story. So if you can use them to post a story that you (I assume) want other people to review, then don't use the reCAPTCHA as an excuse as to why you don't leave a review.
    2) Yes, they are annoying. Yes, they suck. Yes, I hate it too. But I don't have anywhere near the number of staff needed to sweep the archive daily instead of weekly for spam etc and remove it, so it stays. As Rogue pointed out, refresh is always an option (Cause sometimes it takes a couple to find a decent one) or just C&P the review.
Bottom line - the one we have is the best free option out there that has an audio option for our visually impaired users and doesn't require flash/java to use. If people want to pony up the several hundred dollars needed to get the best paid option that is a comparable in terms of stopping the spambots and has those features, please, let me know and we'll see what we can find!

Now, I have been given a really hard time on my stories (Not on AFF, you're all nice (so far...lol)! ) I write Harry Potter Slash mainly centering around the Marauders, and mainly focussing on Sirius Black (with any partner)...people seem to have it in their heads that a gay couple have set roles such as 'bottom' and 'top' I like to mix it up and because of this I have had some rather hilariously useless attempts to make me stop writing. I know I am a reletively good writer, hell, I do it all the time whether Fanfic or Original stories. I am a little bored of trolls using the feedback sections to abuse me because my Sirius Black is 'unmanly' because he bottoms...now any ADULT could tell you that in real relationships the partners can switch back and forth if they so wish...so why is it so terrible that I follow this in my fics? What is it about people's obsession with a certain character being stuck in a definate role? It's not realistic, it's boring as hell and it's actually borderline offensive! Some people have some messed up naieve delusions and It confuses me completely...if anyone reading this can clarify why these trolls (and I use this term lightly...as at least real trolls make me laugh and don't bore me stupid!) continue to plague my internet footsteps I would be grateful.
Also, is there an issue with having a male character show emotion in fanfiction or something? People have told me my stories are...erm... 'shit' before (lol, original!) and I cannot understand why they seem so offended if a character is showing emotion! People are so weird!
Would love to hear other opinoins on this if possible, I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this way! lol.

It has happened before Stanley Kubrick, decided he didnt like Clockwork Orange and pulled it from publishing and it stayed that way for quite awile. and yes while the authors online can and have remove their works of fiction, The material they publish is theirs and to say that they cant/shouldnt delete their propert, is so very wrong and I would think that this is why a lot of them have deleted their property or they have become mainstream published and have to remove all copies o ftheir work.

I've been letting this ruminate in the back of my mind, and I honestly think that the most surefire way to get reviews or reactions of any kind is to stick to the more popular fandoms and fill the story with sex, no matter how improbable or unlikely, particularly slash.
There are authors here, both in Originals and in various fandoms, who are extraordinarily gifted writers. They create memorable characters and vivid settings, and if it's a fandom, they strive to bring a unique perspective. And yet they get little to no reviews. Maybe they don't cater to the "in" pairings, or maybe they would rather write about a heterosexual couple. Maybe no one gets raped, kidnapped, sold into slavery or transformed into a demon/vampire/werewolf.
Dame Barbara Cartland wrote to a formula, and even when her initially "racy" novels became "tame" with the changing morals of the times, she was still intensely popular. She found something that appealed to a wide range of readers, and she stuck with it. As far as I can tell, if you can come up with a young boy who's been kidnapped and sold into slavery and then loses his virginity to his gay demon/vampire/werewolf owner-cum-lover, you're on the way to review heaven. If you can make it work in one of the more popular fandoms, not only can you hit review heaven, you can later edit it into an original work and publish it to great acclaim.

I'll be perfectly honest. I have had the oh-so-delightful experience of being attacked personally for my role as a moderator. It's stupid, and childish, and not what I expected from people on this site, but I tend to give people more credit than they deserve, it seems. Apparently, not only did these bullies never bother to actually read the Terms of Service and Content Guidelines that they agreed to when making their account, they find it unreasonable for us to expect them to actually comply with it.
Although we now use a separate moderator account for our work here, I don't think I'm alone in remaining reluctant to expose myself to the bullshit of retaliation reviews. While I'm intelligent enough not to take the content to heart, I'm also hampered in how I can respond because I am a mod for the site, and even in my "personal" role, what I do and say reflects on the site as a whole. I know that standing up to bullies works, but I can't do that, and silence only encourages that particular form of vermin, whereas I'd rather hold up a mirror and force them to confront their own blindingly evident inadequacies.
Even worse, they help to alienate readers and authors who would otherwise leave reviews that were meaningful and contained useful concrit. I enjoy being told what worked, but even more so, I want to know what doesn't work. I will never improve if I don't know where I'm lacking, and I'm not delusional enough to think I don't have vast room for improvement. I particularly resent losing the gorgeous and invaluable concrit from ShadowKnight, and the blunter but no less cherished concrit from wanderingaddict. They kept me going when I started writing here, and I've taken their advice to heart, to my great benefit.
The utter nadir, though, is seeing writers with talent and potential crushed by bullies who unleash the full fury of their minions on someone who dares to leave a less than fanpoodling review. It's not in my scope of authority, but I'd cheerfully ban those bullies without a moment's hesitation. I never permitted my children to throw tantrums in public and if certain users want to behave like children, I'm more than happy to administer swift parental response. Being an adult comprises more than just having reached a certain chronological benchmark.

This site has rules, yes, and we enforce them. Welcome to being an adult.

Taking off my staff hat for a moment, and speaking just as an author, I would not be terribly comfortable leaving any of my original work up here if it were made easy to download it. My fandom stuff, well, it would be irritating as the hells to find it published elsewhere under someone else's name, but it's not something I could ever have published on my own for profit anyway. My original work, though... I'd be devastated. Seriously. Some of my oneshots in Originals are "outtakes" and character development bits for things I'd like to submit for publication.
I understand that the vast majority of people download something to read with no nefarious intent, and would no sooner plagiarize than they would kick a puppy. I know nothing's foolproof, and a determined thief can copy and paste just as well. I just don't see the point of a fiction archive making it easy for people to steal, not when that archive hosts original works.
That's strictly my opinion as an author, mind you, and it carries only as much weight as that of any other user here.

I think that if you want to do this, then it would be far easier for both you and the mods here if you created a round robin story. That way, each person can post their own chapter but no one can mess with the content already added before them.
I am pretty sure that this would resolve a lot of the issues that could arise if you proceed like you've suggested, because the mods here have a ZERO tolerance policy about plagiarism, if this story starts popping up in many different places it could be considered plagiarism.
So, please, for the sake of our moderators' sanity, consider putting this up as a round robin
