  1. Thanks, I'll check it out. And yes, they're definitely all my stories. And LOL, I used to have a geocities site too, ages ago. Before I taught myself HTML and CSS, so I used their pagebuilder. Ahh sometimes I miss that tacky!Fansite...
  2. If this is the wrong category for this post, sorry mods! I'm sure a lot of people on here have used free (and paid) web hosting to post all their stories, right? Of course AFF is a great place to archive stories. Unfortunately I have a lot of dead stories I'd like to put up somewhere for my own personal easy access without frustrating readers with a mass story uploads of a bunch of bits and pieces of stories that will never be finished. I'm not that cruel. So I used to have a simple personal archive website up with 50webs, but that got hacked or they didn't like my content (never told me which), so I'm back in the market. Do any of you use free hosting and could recommend one that accepts adult content? I'm not interested in a blog or journal site. Not enough control, and I'm a bit of a control freak when it comes to my site.
  3. I'm with you on this, Robin. I would never adopt out a completed story. But my many stories that I've tossed in my fiction graveyard after 2-18 chapters, I'd definitely let someone write to, given they agree to give me full credit for the idea/characters/finishedchapters.
  4. Hobbes, Darwin, and Oscar Wilde are having a tea party. Whose pants come off first? (Behold my epic riddle!)

  5. Happy Birthday Stranger!

  6. Well you know what I think. When it comes to writing, even a little touch of OOCness is too much, and it's almost impossible not to be a touch OOC with characters I didn't create. That's why I don't write fan fiction any more. But at the same time, when I'm -reading- fan fiction, it's different. I'm pretty tolerant of people bending characters to their will as long as it's somewhat realistic and somewhat true to the canon. Unless of course, they're bending the characters in a direction that I don't find all that interesting or entertaining. For me, what warrants a major change in a character's personality depends one hell of a lot on the author's style and skill. Some people can pull it off and keep it wildly captivating. Others can't. But in general, AU has always crossed the line for me in fan fiction, so I avoid reading those altogether.
  7. Wow my connection just burped and lost what I posted in response. Well anyway, I agree. I like tension in a couple. It gets boring if they always get along and neither of them make any mistakes with each other. Then again, it gets frustrating if it's all flawed and no redeeming features, so... balance, I guess?
  8. It does help. I do like strong characters too. But I like a bit of dramatics and theatrics as well - depending on the author I guess. When it comes to a love interest, (AKA the Seme in some circles) I tend to like to read about the ominous types. Calculated, cunning, and maybe a violent streak to top it off. I like extremes, explosions, break downs, anything with a lot of passion, as long as it makes sense for the character and the plot.
  9. I guess this would apply to female chars too. You see I've been going back and forth between a few plot ideas. I can't seem to decide on which one to do and even within each one, I can't seem to decide on the characters. Well I got the main char planned for each one, but not the love interest. So I ask you guys, out of curiosity, and maybe somewhere along the way I'll get inspired for something. What types of love interests do you lean towards? What do you prefer in personalities, traits, flaws, maybe even looks if that's a priority for you? What do you like in leading men/women when you're reading other people's stories?
  10. Well I don't know about Harry potter. I just watched the first couple movies like a decade ago and haven't touched it since. But if your problem is their ages in comparison to each other... It's AU, isn't it? Technically, with the facts being changed and it being a crossover, it's AU, I think. So with that in mind, can't their ages be whatever you want them to be?
  11. You Finished it?! I'm impressed, I don't think many people could make it to the end of that one. I had a little too much fun writing twists in that one that by the end of it I had twisted myself into knots. Seriously. Boy scout knots - that's hardcore knotage.
  12. Love the new names! Dominic and Sasha. Doesn't that sound like a cute couple already? Send me a link when you get something posted. I'm all curious about where you're going with it now. ... I just lost my train of thought. A couple straight guys were making out on TV. O_O... Ahem, anyway... Um, what was I going to say? Oh yeah, that idea about the kid rebelling by becoming a priest! That oughta be fun. Ironic on so many levels that he'd end up picking satan over god too. Love it. Like a full circle, ain't it? rebelled against corruption only to fall in love with corruption. This is a little crazy, but I got my monastery idea while I was watching Oprah (yeah I watch oprah...) and she was talking to some nuns and showing the inside of their convent and I was all like, "Wouldn't it be awesome if there were male nuns?" Then I remembered (duh) monks. And of course, that train of thought eventually led to corrupting those monks with sex and scandals. By eventually, I mean within like 2 seconds... But now I'm procrastinating. I'm supposed to be writing. I'm aware that other people don't really care how my plot ideas are born, but I find their conception wildly amusing, to an almost unhealthy extent. I'll stop rambling now. (As I was typing all that I was admiring my own lack of attention to grammar and punctuation in select parts. Now I just think I'm weird.) ... Yeah, I think I'll shut up now before I start making even less sense. Great time to write, eh? Ciao!
  13. Well currently its a M/M about corruption within a monastery. But I've gone through like 6 plot ideas in the last two months that haven't made it past the second chapter, so it might be awhile before I post anything XD
  14. That would be awesome! I'll keep that in mind for if I start trying the novel again. At the moment I've started another fic that will probably be going on aff instead... eventually.
  15. You're writing a novel? Awesome! I've recently thought about writing a novel to get published, but I don't have the discipline to stick to something that I'm not getting feedback for. I'm going to a writers conference in April anyway. Maybe that'll help.
  16. I get that. My plots often wander off into nothingness, especially my supernatural thrillers. I have a naughty little habit of starting with a concept and not planning the actual plot and climax until I'm a few chapters in. Even then it has a tendancy to keep changing on me (both the plot, and my mind...). Can get pretty confusing for the reader. But all is not lost for option (A), if that's what you're most inspired for. It might take a few hours of brainstorming, but there is potential at least.
  17. Personally, I believe that the type of plot that's best depends 50% on the author's style, and 50% on how inspired/motivated the author is. With that in mind, it's hard for me to say what would be best for you specifically because I don't know your style, so I'll focus more on what I think about the options in general. A: Sounds a little weird. Difficult to pull off, but if you manage, it could be awesome. Would the hypnosis be like going into some sort of alternate realm or is it just a normal meditation type hypnosis? The rape doesn't bother me as much, unless - as you said at the start - the victim immediately forgives and falls in love with the rapist. I don't think it's bad if the victim falls in love with the rapist over time, as long as he doesn't forgive him, at least not without a fight. Unfounded, quick forgiveness for an atrocious act irks me. I think, though, that Austen's obsession with hypnosis sounds really cool. I like that, and I think that's awesome as a central plot. The second personality bit doesn't appeal to me though. B: This one sounds a bit easier to accomplish. It sounds more manga inspired, and simple. I'm a firm believer that simple is better. A lot of people like that kind of angst and drama too. Incest might turn some off, but it'd attract others. There's the danger of it being a lot like a bounty of other slash fics on AFF though, but that could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it and how you pull it off. C: I like this one too. If you avoid the boring crime meetings that tend to come with mafia based fics, even better. Might be interesting to combine with B, as you said. The only thing I'd look into about this one is how the readers in the slash section on AFF respond to crime drama fics - assuming readership and feedback is what you're going for? To see if other authors had any trouble attracting readers. Anyhoo, good luck with whatever you choose!
  18. Yeah, I do that too on occasion. Write by hand, I mean. Really it depends on the story for me. Some feel like they need to be typed to start with, others seem to flow better when written by hand.
  19. My bad. I really should have read back further before I posted. Thanks!
  20. Mmhm. I admire people who can finish a whole 20+ chapter story before they post anything. If I waited that long, I wouldn't have anything to post.
  21. Edit: It seems this topic has been brought up already, and pretty much covered, so if any mods stroll by, by all means, close this. When you start a new story, how long do you wait before you begin to post it on AFF? Do you wait until the whole thing is written and finished? (talking multi-chapters, not oneshots) Or do you post each chapter immediately after you finish them? Since I'm so fickle and tend to drop fics almost as soon as I start them, as a general rule I don't like to post anything until I'm at least five chapters in. What about you guys? What's your take?
  22. I agree. In moderation. At the same time, the people controlling legalised drugs would only be able to control it so much. Sounds difficult to me to have control over how much people take in their personal lives. If drugs are legalised there -will- be problems, but in my opinion, we already have so much problems with drugs in the illegal market. I think legalising would provide some control and possibly make the drug scene less attractive to minors, and of course as said at the beginning by hopebringer, provide safer solutions. As with anything, even legalised there'd be potential for corruption. But I think it could still work if there were... safeguards? Well, not the word I'm looking for but you get my drift. Hard to talk while I'm watching a debate about homosexuality in Africa XD. Anyhoo, that was a long way of saying "I agree but I don't trust THE MAN!" ... bye!
  23. I voted on a limited basis. In truth I've never done drugs so I'm hardly an authority. My only real exposure was my brother coming home high and waving bags of shrooms in my face lol. In my opinion though, it depends greatly on the drug. I think pot should be legalised, and maybe some of the hallucinagens, (forgive me if I spelled it wrong.) but certain drugs that make people act different, and violent over time should not be. Even in a safe environment to use, and high quality products may not be doing enough to protect the people around them and living with them. I'm talking about drugs like meth, I hear that one makes people prone to anger and violence. Maybe cocaine? Steroids... If there's little risk of people hurting others and lives deteriorating over prolonged use, then sure. I'm all for legalisation. After all, Alcohol and caffeine and all the chemicals in cigarettes are basically drugs, aren't they? Our society has pretty much coped with those. So yeah. My conclusion: Depends on the drug, and its effect over time. If that makes any sense?
  24. Oh. My. God. I can't believe someone mentioned the Dresden Dolls. Thank you Mischief. I just discovered them a couple months ago and I am currently madly in love with Amanda Palmer, lol. Anyhoo I saw a few reccommendations there for Within temptation so I guess I'll be checking them out soon! I do love some songs off the cowboy bebop soundtrack. Mostly the ones performed by mai yamane. Love her voice. Too bad I can't find any personal albums from her. Portishead is awesome. I don't listen to them much anymore, but I always keep at least one Portishead song on my playlist at all times. lmfao, I can totally relate. I went on an adam Lambert fit too for awhile. I still listen to him though, but not as obsessively.
