Let’s see. I celebrated on Sunday, because my brother in law is a nurse, and had to work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It actually worked for me, being midway between my Solstice and Christmas.
So, it was family, and neighbors, and lots of food which everyone swore was wonderful, and and small presents for the adults, and more for the kids. It was laughter, and telling old stories, and new stories. It was amazing desserts from my sister’s favorite bakery in Brooklyn. It was glorious, and everything I could hope for in a celebration.
I think this was the first time since my dad’s passing that I really let myself enjoy the holidays.

Honestly, it’s just that sort of pure blind luck I seem to have. I’d worked for the government before, they were recruiting, they made puppy eyes, and I said okay. I went through all the paperwork, and vetting, and clearances (I’m shockingly clearance-worthy). I was sworn in on October 29, and I’m now having a lovely little unpaid vacation.
In truth, I work because I’m bored otherwise. I’m not dependent on that paycheck, so I’m fine. BUT there are far too many other people who do depend on that paycheck, and this was simply wrong. I feel worse for the people who have to work without pay. My hat is off to Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, however. Once again, as she did in the last shutdown, she is donating her salary during the shutdown to a Nevada charity. I admire the gesture.
I’m not going to dip my toes into the actual politics. I’m fairly moderate, and view both the far left and far right with the same sort of wary distaste generally reserved for things best not discussed in the drawing room. I will say that if one does not have a grasp of economics, or even the patience to read a one-page precis, one should not attempt to govern. Governing from the gut tends to fail miserably, which one knows if one reads their history.

I swear, that thing is shut down more than it’s up, and even when it is running, it never feels like it’s running ‘well’.

The people who actually do something (Aka you n others) won’t have to wait long once enough people get the politicians to grow the fluck up and act like reasonable adults.

Yesterday, a conversation with @CloverReef mentioned Christmas trains, and, well, I found I’m able to run with it, did like half of it last night.

Oh good, now I don’t have to feel guilty for thinking claus was hot
or that demonic nun.

I adore that spooky otherworldy air.

Sensory Overload. The sheer amount of stock is overwhelming.
 

I know you do some of your own rendering work, but sometimes you get great ideas from the stock sites. And it never hurts to find a fabulous (and free!) background.
Honestly, I have nothing but unstinting admiration for editors and cover artists. They make me look far more clever than I really am.
