  1. Well I'm glad I was able to help you clarify your feelings. When you talk about the relationship between someone and their creation I can definitely identify with you. I think it's safe to say that we are all our own worst critics. It seems to me that you've ventured into uncharted territory with this new fic, and as the writer are experiencing some apprehension. That's to be expected. Your reaction will likely be the strongest one to what you've written. Once you've gotten over it (and you will), you'll be fine and more than ready to take on the reader response to what you've published. Fret not. You are evolving as a creative person, and as a writer. You are in very good company here.
  2. What's your problem with the story? You definitely posted it in the proper forum. I am amused when people post stories on this site and disclaim them and then apologize for their content. If you didn't think this was the appropriate place to publish a fic of that nature you would not have bothered; therefore, why on earth are you apologizing? The people who browse this site come from all walks of life, and have all sorts of kinks. Trust me, for every three people you offend, ten people are getting off on what you've written, even if the number of hits or reviews you get don't tell you so. Here is my advice to you. If you're experiencing a moral conflict over what you've written, then don't publish your work in public forums until you are no longer experiencing moral conflict. Honestly, we just want to read what you've written. We could care less if you're having an issue with it. Post the next chapter or take it down. Either way, PLEASE STOP APOLOGIZING.

    PWP

If smut between certain characters is the point of the fic, then it's PWP. Go for it. PWP doesn't necessarily have to be a lemon. I wrote a lime called The Rule that is PWP. There was no other purpose for that fic than the smut that occurred between the characters. I don't know about any stigma with PWP. I've seen fics on this site that run the gamut. What I do know is that when it comes to PWP all bets are off. There are no rules, no boundaries. For my money PWP fanfiction is more popular than chaptered fanfiction with an honest-to-goodness plot. A moresome is a fic involving smut between more than three characters. A oneshot is a fic that is only a chapter long. A moresome can be as many chapters as you want it to be. Are you in need of a beta?

    PWP

    1. Yes, in theory. Although if you're courageous, you could aim for plot in a sequel, though it is hardly necessary. 2. Sometimes you just want to read about the characters you like going at each other. So you write PWP. More than one chapter in a PWP fic may indicate a moresome, which may require more writing, or you may write one chapter of a fic per pairing. It's up to you. 3. Again, the term 'porn without plot' is self-explanatory. Trust me on this. There doesn't need to be plot; there are PLENTY of other fics on this site with very well thought-out plots. This is gratuitous lemon, plain and simple. The presence of plot indicates that the story is something OTHER THAN PWP. 4. I write mine to stoke myself. I don't practice masturbation in general, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone used PWP fanfiction to get off that way.

    PWP

The term is self-explanatory. It generally indicates a short fic (one or two chapters) with very little plot trailed by lots of smut. Typically, the story ends when the smut is over. I've written some NaruGaa PWP for the Naruto fandom (basically everything I've written for that pairing, LOL). If you need an example, pop on over and have a go at Oranges. I promise you there isn't a plot to be found for miles in that oneshot.
  6. If I REALLY like your story I will add it to my recommended reading list here, then periodically check for updates. There are a couple of fics on my list that are SUPER-old. But I love where the story was going and cling to the hope that the writer will return to it some day.
  7. "Throw your hands in the air! In the air! In the air!"
  8. I'll do that. While I'm at it I need that soundtrack on CD, since I no longer have a tape player. Excellent soundtrack, by the way.
  9. I have that movie on VHS. It's actually a live-action of the Mystery Men comic distributed by Dark Horse comics. It's a great movie and I think your idea for a fanfic is an excellent one. If I wasn't such a yaoi whore I'd take you up on it. I would be more willing to pair The Shoveler with that bad guy who wore the gigantic afro.
  10. LOL, that writer was trying to OOC an Uchiha, which, for my money, you pretty much have to do (If it's Sasuke, at least). The problem there wasn't the writing, the problem was that the person was trying to write Uchiha. Unless you're REALLY good, you shouldn't bother.
  11. Tell the truth and shame the devil, LOL I think you and I read the same fic yesterday. I didn't leave a review because I didn't want to be accused of being a troll or a flamer. The first time I saw the censor I thought it was a fluke. By the end of the fic (yes, I made it that far), I was laughing my ass off. I was sure the writer lied about the age in the profile. There should be a rule that one who deliberately censors their work on this site should be cast out like a bad angel from Heaven.
  12. You're not going to get lots of reviews on this web site. I know what you're thinking--with the 130,000+ who troll here, there should be many, and you are right. But therein, ma'am, lies the proverbial rub. There is a lot of fanfiction on this site, provided free by the writers. People log on, sift through the melee, read a few fics, one or two they might really get a kick out of, and then promptly move on to Facebook, or another site. No reviews, and why not? Because tomorrow night when they repeat the process there will be *gasp* even more fics to sift through. Writers are taken for granted here, regardless of how good a writer they are. And to be fair, the really good writers are at a dearth. Their stuff is hiding amongst the stuff written by the minors who have lied about their age in their profile and are writing crap to get attention. Writers seem to consider a review the holy grail here. I am a writer and I do not concur with this. I get precious few reviews for what I write and I consider my writing to be both well-written and entertaining. But I don't write what I think someone will review. I write what I would want to read if I were here trolling at 11PM (like I was when I first found this site). And no, the two are most certainly not the same. As writers posting our work on AFF, I think it's important that we do two things: one that we don't take the readers too seriously. You know the lion's share of them are minors with too much time on their hands. Your concept of a good fic and theirs are probably light years away from each other. Two, we don't take ourselves too seriously. This is a web site touting adult fan fiction, for crying out loud. If you are looking for genuine honest feedback on your writing skills, you're in the wrong place. If you're here to win a popularity contest, then you need to figure out what minors with too much time on their hands are willing to review and write lots and lots of it. I have had four different people do a lot of fan art for my fan fiction. To me, that is the holy grail. I think fan art created by someone who read my work and was inspired by it is the kindest compliment--and the best review--that I could receive.
  13. Poker Night. Guess who's playing? L, Light, Near, Mello and Matt. The subterfuge and deception of the ultimate strategies ensue.
  14. I'm with you there 110%. If you thought it sucked when you wrote it then WTFH did you post it (or why did you tell us so)? How desperate for validation do you have to be to post something with an author's note that states you don't think it's any good? This goes back to a statement I posted before about people writing because they need glory. If you need it, then learn how to interface with your reading audience in order to get it. The first thing you have to figure out, though, is who your reading audience is. Many of us who read fanfiction also write it, and have precious little empathy for a fellow writer who is willing to bash themselves pre-emptively in the interest of their bottomless egos.
  15. I think she pissed off quite a few people when she did that, LOL. The fandom is still asking what happened to her stories. You left out a couple of good ones: Defiantly versus Definitely. Whoever sold these people their busted-ass Spell-Checker needs to come clean. Seriously, it's an epidemic now. To versus too. So many writers, and no one seems to be able to figure this one out. Somewhere, a muse is weeping.
  16. This might be it... The Sound of Dreams, by Zrina: http://naruto.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600090805
  17. Oh, that's definitely it. Animehead is one of my favorite fanfic writers. I have a link to this story on my recommended reading list here.
  18. *Raises hand in the air* GUILTY AS CHARGED. Okay, so my male characters are not afraid of their emotions. Sue me! I find men who are willing to express that emotional aspect of themselves to be more manly in the end than men who will staunchly pretend they don't have those feelings (or will go out and kill something as a way of manifesting them instead). That's not to say I think being a sappy drama bitch is sexy, because I don't--not in either gender. I don't know anything about homemade wedding vows, I've never been married. But I know I don't live in a world where one person can express him or herself to another that way unless it's a wedding without having someone throw it back in his or her face at some point in the future. So I write fanfiction.
  19. No, you are absolutely right. Fanfiction is fanfiction. Slash fanfiction is fanfiction with m/m pairings. Although personally, I prefer the term yaoi. Hey, it's a genre, just like slash.
  20. 1. Personally I prefer to take my male characters into adulthood with some of the doe-eyed innocence intact. It is my feeling that 'manly' men come off as obnoxious and more experienced men come off as unrepentant whores, and neither characteristic appeals to me. I write male characters I would appreciate knowing unless he's a foil for a character I would appreciate knowing. 2. I can't comment further on the rape thing, I don't use it in my fanfiction and have no frame of reference. 3. I note your use of single quotes when referring to 'straight guy' and 'gay guy'. I disagree with the use of those labels. I see a man becoming involved in a relationship that is different from his usual relationships. For my money, just because a hetero male has an experience or a fling with another man does not necessarily make him gay. Of course, I am a woman so take my statements for what they are. When hetero women get it on with other women no one bats an eyelash. Oh, they had a thing, they had a fling, and it's over, and no one is pointing at either of those women and insisting they change their labels. I recognize it's different with men. I'm saying it shouldn't be. I wrote a fic about a normal hetero man who became a cop and fell in love with his male partner. In the sequel the character does ask himself questions. Was he bi? Was he gay? In the end he decided that he was a man who loved another man. Call him what pleases you. 4. Yes, building tension is an art, but being a good tension artist means knowing when and how to have the characters finally give in. I think many writers miss that point because they know as long as they keep the tension going people will continue to read their fics. I draw the line at twelve chapters of unresolved sexual tension. Fucking do it, for crying out loud!
  21. Got it. Thanks.
  22. JayDee, I'm behind the curve, forgive me...what does futa mean?
  23. For the most part, everything I have written is yaoi. Given the fact that my fandom consists mostly of scrawny, smooth-skinned, doe-eyed thirteen-year-old boys, it is difficult if not impossible to avoid some level of feminization in my writing, regardless of the ages of the characters in my fanfiction. Consequently, reading about men who are significantly feminized in the work of others does not bother me. As for the use of rape in fanfiction, that's a minefield in and of itself, never mind using it as a method of influencing the sexuality of a male character. If I had to spitball it, I'd say that the fanfiction you've been reading has been written by someone without firsthand experience. Give them a break. It's fanfiction. Easing non-gay characters into homoerotic situations. Hmm. Define non-gay. Anyone? While you're at it, define homoerotic. Five bucks says my definition of homoerotic doesn't even come close to yours. To me, everything is homoerotic. A basketball game. A football game. Two sweaty men loading landscaping equipment onto the bed of a pickup truck. How would I segue two average everyday joes into a 'homoerotic' situation from there? Seamlessly. One guy lifts his shirt to wipe sweat from his eyes, and the other one catches a glimpse of *insert an interesting aspect of the physical body here*. It's ridiculously easy. Haven't you ever considered doing something totally inane in the interest of breaking insanity tension in a situation? The next time you and a guy are alone together in a room and it feels awkward, reach over and grab him, and then plant one on him. The rest is the stuff of great yaoi fanfiction. I don't think you can get around awkward in any of these situations, can you? Humans are awkward creatures. A man in an arbitrary situation that happens to cause him to question his sexuality isn't a novel concept at all. If you've never been in a situation then why wouldn't your reaction to being in it for the first time be awkward? And why wouldn't you as the reader expect it to be awkward? You know what I would find awkward? Reading yaoi where an adult man who'd never in his life used his ass for anything other than taking a shit spends a night in bed with a guy taking it up the ass and then awakes the next day not feeling the slightest bit awkward.
