  1. I've seen more than I care to of absolutely horrible ones, too. There have been times when I spent weeks trying to figure out a title (for my serious fics, humorous not so much, they're pretty straight forward). And I really hate it when a word is spelled wrong in the title! Seriously, when you see something like "Severus: A Hare's Breath Away From Love," rather than "Severus: A Hairsbreadth Away From Love," does that make you want to read it? I'd immediately wonder, looking at the first example, if Snape was into some weird French kissing/bestiality thing with rabbits.
  2. I am so with you there Nanaea! One time, I finally got so fed up, I left a very polite (yet anon) concrit explaining a few things. Right after that, in one of the threads regarding reviews, the author quoted it saying "that's what I mean by good concrit!" You're so right with the research, too. It boggles my mind how, with access to just about anything on the 'net, people don't do it. That's why so many anal scenes bother me; even if you've never done it, you can research it (and don't get me started on all those earth shattering orgasms that don't involve clitoral stimulation! *grrrrr*)
  3. I think I just wet myself! And went blind.
  4. I heard the reason they changed it had something to do with energy conservation. Whatever. It's totally f*cked me up; I'm oversleeping every morning, it'll take me a month to adjust. Seriously. Bastards.
  5. "The Misfortunes of Virtue" by Sade, to be followed up with "The Mystified Magistrate" a collection of short, humorous stories by the Marquis. I've got a couple of translations of the Tao te Ching (along with other Taoist books); pretty simple philosophy, but it works for me. Since applying the philosophy, I find I rarely stress out. Cool.
  6. This "character" only made a one-time only guest appearance, on "South Park." I thought he was hot then, and just saw a re-run and nothing's changed. The Archangel Michael in the "Best Friends Forever" episode. Really buff and totally hot.
  7. I don't know about other countries, but the good 'ole U.S. of A. gives out government grants for the stupidest research. Testing the flow rate of ketchup? (swear to God, that's a real one). I want money to determine how the molecular structure of take-out pizza changes when you a.) eat it cold the next day and b.) re-heat left-overs the next day. 'Cause the taste changes. Can I have $575,000.00 to research that?
  8. I check up on the news during my lunch, it was on msn's website. Must have been a slow news day!
  9. Straight ladies, send a mental "thank you" to the guy you lost your virginity to; it could have been worse. MSN-Spider "Chastity Belt"
  10. I, too, got the Tantric Master.
  11. I don't know who put that together, but they're a satirical genius!
  12. What with all the creative people on this site, I thought I'd share this. Our parents have done us wrong! The Onion-Creativity Harmful to Kids
  13. OMFG, harsh criticism is starting to roll in for my most recent update. And I sit here, shaking my head, saying "you don't fucking get it." I'd post one of them, but either the reviewer deleted it, or I accidentally did when I tried to post a response. That was weird. Anyway, they basically said that after the previous chapter, the follow up was a cheat and a cheap trick. Yeah, kiss my ass. That's my response. (That is not the reply I left, btw). I addressed this on my LJ, after the first review which was a "huh? wtf is going on? I don't get it." Then I got the "I'm a cheater." In my LJ, I said I was sticking to my guns, I'm not changing a thing, because I believe that strongly in the story. Nanaea *huggles* was very supportive, in spite of my ranting. Then I saw the second one and thought, "do I have to get all analytical, philosophical and spell everything out?" I'm not hurt by any of it, but I am frustrated. I'm seriously considering taking a looong hiatus, cooling off (perhaps even finishing the story but not posting for a while) and see where my head's at in a couple of months. Maybe I'm wrong and they're right. In the past, I've accused myself of thinking too much. Maybe I have with this, (the story) but my gut is telling me no. I'll live, but it's going to be a rough next few days.

That man never fails to crack me up. Sleight of hand magician, huh? Oh, the things those nimble fingers could do...mmmm....

ZombieDuke, looks like you've got yourself a project. Just dig up a photo of Jason Isaacs circa 1978, slap the "Paris Hilton wig" on him and voilĂ ...Lucius at fifteen. Dear God, help me, now I'm picturing young Lucius in that awful, white polyester "Saturday Night Fever" suit, on the prowl for the ladies. *shudder*

Actually, from highest to lowest, it's tenor, baritone, bass.

True, a person's voice colors as they age, (and puberty kicks in at different ages, look at how different Rupert Grint sounded from the second to the third film) but the actor is in his twenties. I'm hoping he's a natural baritone as opposed to a tenor; if not, as long as he's got the delivery and cadence down, I'll live. We suspend our disbelief for these flicks anyway, so I'll suck it up and *gasp* deal with a tenor Snape if I have to.

Thanks for posting that, Mad, looks like they did a good job with the casting. I know the actor said he spoke with Rickman about how he should carry himself and what would be in Snape's head, so hopefully, it'll be a great scene. One thing, though, doesn't Snape ever change his hairstyle? He looks very sullen and brooding. Anybody know what this guy sounds like? Half of Snape's charm is the voice.
  19. I hope there are some conversant fans of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" out there who can offer an opinion on this. In Chapter 21, a fairly pivotal event occurs, but, to the best of my recollection, every film or tv adaptation I've ever seen portrays it as something else, causing me to spew a torrent of obscenities, usually ending with "Jesus Christ, can't anybody do a faithful and accurate adaptation of this classic?" If you need a refresher, here's a link to the online text: Dracula Ch 21 What I'm referring to starts about halfway down the page. So the set-up is basically the crew (Van Helsing, Seward, Quincy and Holmwood) entering the Harker's bedchamber to find Mina with the Count while Johnathan is in a stupor. Here's the deal. Everything I've ever seen portrays this as a consensual act. To me, it's a rape, specifically, forced oral copulation. The Count forcing her head to his chest (cock), forcing her to swallow, the blood smeared on her face and neck a substitute for semen. Am I wrong? Am I just a metaphor whore, reading way too much into this? Opinions, please!
  20. I'd be interested in hearing that theory; an adult man who picks on/bullies/bites children isn't right in the head. I still say J.K. writes in layers; younger people will see/interpret one thing; old, cynical folk like me another. As for Remus and Tonks; if they have sex while he's transformed, yes, I agree, that would be bestiality. Otherwise, no. And I have no idea what you're referring to about Harry, other than he's the result of a "mixed" marriage. Also, Remus, to me, is a metaphor for gay men who were ostracized from teaching, coaching, etc. because they were either HIV positive or had AIDS back in the 80's/90's (of course Remus was attacked and "infected" with the werewolf affliction as a child, it's not his fault; the "innocent" victim stance, like a blood transfusion recipient). In HBP, that's pretty damn clear once Bill is attacked by Greyback, but Fleur stands by him, and Tonks lays into Remus. He says "it's not the same thing." Totally symbolic of the difficulties a couple might face when one is HIV positive. Yes, the books are fantasy and that is how I initially approach them; I'm just looking for an entertaining read. But if something jumps out at me (first chapter of HBP for example, was all about terrorism and the U.K./U.S. alliance) I can't help that. I'm also well aware of the fact that people cannot turn into werewolves, although those suffering from lycanthropy think they can. I think I learned something today (god, I sound like a "South Park" episode" lol). Some people prefer a straight forward black and white interpretation and others go for the shades of grey. And that's cool with me.
  21. Well, yes, technically he just enjoys eating the flesh of children, but I took it as a metaphor for a child molestor. To kids, he's just a scary werewolf, but my first thought was "J.K.'s writing about a pedophile!" DDL from "Last of the Mohicans" now that is a blast from the past. So far back, I can't even remember what he looked like in that.
  22. Oooo-kay, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't necessarily find pedophile werewolves, or pedophiles in general, for that matter, sexy. And that's exactly what Greyback is, a child predator (but, I confess to being somewhat over-analytical at times). Anyhoo.... When HBP came out, Entertainment Weekly gave their choices for casting the sixth film. I still have that copy and thought I'd post who they see in various roles: Scrimgeour - Brian Cox (meh) Slughorn - Bob Hoskins (I can see it) Marvolo Gaunt - Peter O'Toole (absolutely) This one is interesting, Merope Gaunt - Helena Bonham Carter (we know that's not gonna happen) and Fenrir Greyback - Daniel Day Lewis (?!?!?!) I think Christopher Eccleston would play a good Greyback; he plays manic well and with a beard and long hair, he'd have the right look. Not uber-sexy-evil, just uber-evil. Discuss.
  23. You've made an excellent point, poly, and I agree. Even in my Snape fics, I never wrote him that overtly romantic. Although, I did have one where he saved letters from an old lover, then told the servant to burn them all once Draco got a look at them. He'd go all eloquent anonymously. Definitely. Now, Lucius, on the other hand.....
