This made me think about how many authors I’d recommended. I mean, there’s been a few writers I’ve really enjoyed over the years, so I went and looked. Zero! Zilch! Nada! Sweet Fanny Adams! The square root of fuck all! My “recommended authors” page has less names than the 2025 member’s list at the Harvey Weinstein appreciation society.
No idea why I never engaged with the author recommending feature, considering I was at least vaguely active on the archive for a while there. At least I apparently recommended a few indvidual stories over the years on the recommended reading page. Stuck a story link or two in my forum sig.
I suppose one way to look at is an author as regularly active and established as George only ended up with 150 odd recs out of all those users slamming the view count up on every story, and in a related point otherwise engaged/active users like me just never even used the feature, not receiving receving a rec doesn’t really mean anything bad.

Oh, I didn’t realize this was actually on the table as a possibility. Good to know. I’m liking the upgrades you’re making so far.

It’s not there yet, right now we are in the process of doing a site wide code upgrade. A link to the development beta will be available to members near the end of December.

I have wondered something similar in the past. Sometimes it feels good to know who likes you.

I’m still at zero recommendations, so no need to reverse-see who’s signed up.

BronxWench got a reaction from QueenBoadicea in Check your email!
Our amazing manta2g has begun to roll out the emails to all our members, asking everyone to verify their email address and reset their password. This is the first phase of unlocking the site, and I'm pretty excited about it!
Please keep an eye out for our email, and follow the directions to verify your email address and reset your password. As always, if you run into any issues, you can email us at tos_team@adult-fanfiction.org or give us a shout over on the forums.
EDIT:
Okay. I just got MY email, and I copied and pasted the validation link (first link) into a new browser tab. I backed out the “password” at the end, hit enter, and it worked.
I then clicked the password reset link in the email, and I was immediately taken to the password reset page, where I successfully updated my password.
I have NO clue why it worked for me when it’s not working for other members, but there we are.

Thank you! That has worked. I really appreciated the step by step guide. it must be tough making things fool proof when the fools get down to my level! I’ve made a note for it somewhere I am less likely to lose it this time. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if I wrote the old one down, picked it up a year later and went “No, that sounds unhygenic” and threw it out.
Your time and effort for the site is as ever appreciated!

That’s a feature on the Site > Members menu, showing the top 50 recommended authors, and should be available to anyone from the archive home page. (Just click on the three little bars, and you’ll see the submenus.) It’s a fun little Easter egg, I think!

OMG that works! It pulls up both “Recommended Authors” and “Recommended Reading” lists, but that’s great because it creates a vast pool of other authors and stories I might like to check out. Thank you!
I’m not sure about the alt account thing, though. Jan has a lot of time on her hands these days.

Hey, so a bit random but while just messing around trying to get back into my archive account I saw there’s now the most recommended authors listed on the members page (I don't remember it before!) sadly it doesn’t say who has George recommended, but I couldn’t help but go “Wow” at the numbers there. After George at number one, the most recommended authors at 2-5 only just have more recs combined than George does on his own! A very popular author, it seems, I for one am hoping to find time to read that Zootopia fic. I do like me some rabbit cop. And it would surely be nice to read a Zootopia fanwork that doesn’t leave me thinking Arby’s. Well, unless it does. I assume she gets the meat at any rate.
The page I was stumbled on with the list:
https://members.adult-fanfiction.org/
(-does everyone else see that table at the top? Wasn’t sure if it was just showing because of how I reached it or something. “Top 50 Recommended Authors”?)
And back on topic slightly, I think a google search using a search string like this in bold would bring up most of the recommended authors pages with your username on it, probably missing some, but worth a shot if you then had time to click through them all to see! I’m sure they can’t all be Jan Brady’s alt accounts 😛

"Leaffall"Once again, you've written a story soaked in Celtic myth and dripping with drama. I have to wonder what the ultimate outcome will be for Darri after selling his soul (No afterlife? Bound to the water fae forever?), but he did win Angaine her freedom and got a bonus water-breathing ability on top of that. He'll probably be persona non grata in the human world unless he starts wearing sunglasses or something (I recently watched Blue Eye Samurai, so...), and he's not fae either, but being half this and half that is a great start to becoming a legendary hero. Or else a cool bartender at an edgy tavern. Great story!
Thank you!
Darri was just a victim throughout the story, the village idiot so to speak, and the only one who was consistently decent to him was Angaine, so of course he’d want to win her freedom. The fact that she was merely using him as her errand boy didn’t matter to Darri, although I do think she felt some measure of guilt when the sea fae took him.
As far as the Cailleach Mhara, she didn’t really care that Darri was making a less than informed choice either. She had her own ends in mind, to protect her people, and taking a human soul was the means to that end. What it would mean for him to be soulless was largely irrelevant, which is why deals with the fae are never a good idea.
The only one who acted to help Darri was the Wavesinger, and he destroyed an entire human village in the process, along with Angaine. Again, fae ethics are not inclined to include humans, even if the Wavesinger saw Darri as someone to be honored for sacrificing his soul.
If I had to guess, I would say Darri and the Wavesinger are going to swim off and become the lead characters in an underwater buddy movie, overturning human fishing boats and sneaking into human villages to drink a little blood…

The intent wasn’t to get you thinking of any particular movie, but yes, we’re all armchair quarterbacks when it comes to judging the decision-making of horror-movie protagonists. You’d kind of hope that were we in the same scenario, we’d remember that its smarter to run out the front door than down into the basement or up to the attic (thank you, Sydney from Scream), but you just never know what snap judgments you might make.
Thanks for the comments!
