BronxWench reacted to GeorgeGlass in Category request: Murphy and Mitzi
It works! I just uploaded my story, and now the Murphy and Mitzi category is visible in the archive. Thank you!

Thank you! I was worried that I had screwed it up, but that makes sense!

Looking through the a-z menus I am not seeing any stories showing a count of less than 1 [ie none showing (0) ]- maybe under the new software there needs to be at least one story in a sub catagory to show on the menus, but they’re there for adding a story in the drop downs?
Edit: Which actually feels like a good thing in some ways, as on the old site I’d sometimes see a game and click on it, only to find any story had been deleted!

It’s in the dropdown for you to publish. If memory serves, the category won’t display until there’s actually a story in it

I can see it in the admin view, but not in the user view, so I have no idea if I actually created it or not. Maybe @DemonGoddess or @manta2g will be able to tell if I did it right. (I swear, I’m flying this thing by the seat of my pants sometimes...)
EDIT: I can see it in the dropdown if I say I’m going to create a new story. It’s just not visible in the menu, and I have no idea why that is.

The coder tested on Firefox. Did you clear the cache and cookies for ALL TIME, restart your browser, and then go to https://www.adult-fanfiction.org?

It sounds like in your Chromium based browser, you allowed the new cookie to be set. Whereas in Firefox you have not.

I checked again with FireFox, TorBrowser, DuckDuckGo, LibreWolf; this time with all their cookie restrictions turned off completely, I still get the same result.
If you go directly to the Archive, you won't get past the age verification.
If you go to the Forum, don't click anything, then go directly to the Archive, you won't get past the age verification.
If you go to the Forum, use a link to "https://adult-fanfiction.org/", from within the forum, then the age verification works.
I've tried this on Android 13, Windows 10, Zorin 18 and Debian 13; A phone, two PCs and a laptop.
I think there may be something wrong with the Age Verification prompt, at least in regards to browsers based on FireFox, because no other site acts that way for any of my other devices or browsers.
At the very least, maybe there should be a warning on the age verification that it may not work with browsers based on FireFox.

Am I the only FireFox user here?

BronxWench reacted to WarrenTheConey in My experience with the age verification.
I figured it out, I had a mix of problems.
DuckDuckGo, the search engine in the URL bar of all my browsers except Brave, kept taking me to this URL: "https://adult-fanfiction.org/"
--
All the FireFox browsers display "trimmed URLs", that look like this: "adult-fanfiction.org"
My problem was I couldn't see that I didn't have the proper link.
I'm disabling the "trimmed URL" feature in each of my browsers for the future.
I think the age verification should have a link like, "Having trouble? Click here and try again.", to ensure that all visitors will be in the right place, even if they can't tell.

Thank you DemonGoddess, your help was appreciated.

That user id 1296941646 was requested to be deleted in 2023 earlier in the thread, and deleted –
Edit – possilbly a coincidence, but there was a new profile in the name Rivera created today!

TBH, having the pictures match is likely a good thing for users recognizing the author of their favorite (or least favorite) stories, when browsing the forums.

All you need is a link to an image that you like.
Go to a site that has an image you like, then right click that image; In the options you should see "Copy Image Link", click that.
Now just paste that link into the box, and that should show the image that you want, after you click “save” at the bottom.
This is mine for example.

Remember it has to be small enough to fit the 250 pixel limit, I recommend using preview images or thumbnails, these will usually fit.
--
Also be aware, the site doesn't allow a picture of a real person, so no personal photos.

Good explanation!
Just to add my tip: If users don’t want to link offsite they can load their 250x250 (or smaller) userpic direct as a forum userpic first, and then use the forum userpic link for the archive profile. It’s worked for me for years! It does mean the forum and archive userpic are the same, but I don’t mind using the same on both.

BronxWench reacted to Desiderius Price in Really Good incest Stories
Debating on whether I should point out the difference in meaning & spelling of “incest” vs “insect”… two different genres IMO (though I suppose an adventurous author could meld them together). Perhaps they’re after Shelob and offspring?

If you have made an archive account, please let me know the pen name so I can check and see if you have been activated.
If you have activated already, and you’ve been able to log in before the archive upgrade, these are the instructions to log in:
First thing, before you proceed. DO NOT use anonymous browsing for this part. You can go back to it afterwards.
Be sure to do this from the main page: https://www.adult-fanfiction.org
No matter WHICH browser, you must clear cache and cookies for ALL TIME. If you are using Apple products, you must clear cache in all your devices as the products link together. After doing the clear, close and restart your browser. Finally, you need to force refresh. (Press Ctrl+F5) That should fix the issues. You should be able to proceed once you do that.
If you’re getting an error about activation, go to the register link and select the drop down option of “resend activation”.
Remember, major software changes generally do require this sort of action.
If, after all this, you’re still experiencing issues with the age verification, in Chrome/Edge, press F12 to access the console. You’ll see the exact error being generated. Let us know what it is.
If you are experiencing bugs, please post them to the bug tracker. What we will need from you are specific steps you took to get the error, and screen shots if you are able. This will help in getting everything fixed, if there are bugs.
