StoryJunkie Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Sometimes referred to as the Pit of The Über-Voles or AFF.net It is not, in fact, located at adult-fanfiction.org, but has a lengthy web address and must be found through googling. It is a website hosting mostly fanfiction, but including RPF and original. Every story is porn. It is home to an astounding amount of NC-17 badfic. She visited adult-fanfiction.org and read a lemon between Spike and Buffy. by lynx wings Apr 23, 2005 email it Is this for real? dazzledfirestar Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Okay... Where the hell did that come from?? Should we be insulted??
StoryJunkie Posted December 17, 2006 Author Report Posted December 17, 2006 It looks like they used one sample: the Buffy/Spike pairing, I wish they'd uv left a link to it somewhere....now I have to dig. You do realize this is going to drive me crazy for at least 2 minutes....
dazzledfirestar Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Is it just me, or does the entry kind of sound a little bitter and hurt? Maybe someone got offended by all the "dirtiness" around here. Ah well, I'll give them credit for "Ubervoles" anyway. That is creative!
Guest Big Samurai Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I've never been too fond of the term 'Pit of Voles' for the web site from which AFF was spun off, and I don't particularly like 'Ubervoles', either. A vole is a small, furry creature of mouse-like disposition that has nothing whatsoever to do with writing, and I doubt its legal representatives would look too fondly on being associated with badfic.
foeofthelance Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Can somebody at least explain the connection between fanfic writers (of any mark or talent) and voles to me?
polywolly Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Wonderful! I've always wanted something to call myself. Now I know. What's that saying? Any press is good press. Something like that. Well, imagine all the curious little creatures who, upon reading that definition, will scurry right over to read the uberbad fic. Scurry away, I say! After a quick trip through the dictionary, there are two definitions. 1) small rodent: a small rodent found mostly in North America and Eurasia, similar to mice and rats but with a shorter tail and legs and a stocky body. So they're calling us fat, are they? 2) taking of all card tricks: a taking of all the tricks in a single hand in a card game such as bridge I like the second one better, though I fail to see how either applies to us. Maybe we don't hold anything back in our fiction by pulling out all the stops and taking all of the tricks... Okay, now I'm reaching.
Guest Knorg Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 The fanfiction site www.t-s-s-a.com is apparantly known as Tessa d'ubervoles.
Neito Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Meh. People write shit like that in UD all the time. It's like going to uncyclopedia for a research paper.
EveKnight75 Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 AFF has been known as the Über-Pit for a while now. It's not because we were originally a part of "that site". It's because AFF has the largest collection of adult bad-fic and squick-fic. Then again, AFF has the largest collection of adult fanfic, period. Godawful Fanfiction refers to this place as the Über-Pit. However, the majority of those who do are members of AFF. They don't hate the site, and are willing to acknowledge that there's good stuff on here. Basically, we're known as the Über-Pit because of the worse side of AFF that we're willing to acknowledge and often lament ourselves. It's about the immature tripe posted by underagers or those who don't know the first thing about writing, much less writing adult material. Admittedly, many of us say the same thing about the "other site". It's full of crap, but there are a few good writers and fics that make it worthwhile. Same with us. I nearly forgot: individual fics are referred to as voles, not the members themselves. Plus, it's UD. Every definition you read there has to be taken with a grain of salt.
StoryJunkie Posted December 17, 2006 Author Report Posted December 17, 2006 This site is NOT as bad as Literotica.
Guest Adara Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Wonderful! I've always wanted something to call myself. Now I know. What's that saying? Any press is good press. Something like that. Well, imagine all the curious little creatures who, upon reading that definition, will scurry right over to read the uberbad fic. Scurry away, I say! Maybe we don't hold anything back in our fiction by pulling out all the stops and taking all of the tricks... Okay, now I'm reaching. As polywolly states, this just going to get the Archive more attention. Whenever anyone starts crap about something, we all all flock with morbid curousity to check out what's so, "wrong". Honestly, we should take it all in stride, just like when some stupid troll flames us. (Bigger scale of course. Since we're all included in that generalization. )
EveKnight75 Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 This site is NOT as bad as Literotica. No, we're not. However, people read fanfiction online more often than they read original fiction. We're known for being one of the best sources for finding bad adult fanfiction because we have the largest number of fanfics out of all the adult sites as well as the most genres (fandoms and warning labels). GreyArchives came up as a close second. They don't have much quantity, but they surpass us in squick. TSSA and CSSA has also managed to surpass us in squick, but again there's the matter of limited genres. I can't say Literotica is a good source for finding bad adult fanfiction. Bad adult original fiction, yes.
Neito Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 I think what we're forgetting is Sturgeon's Revelation 90% of everything is crap.
Guest Big Samurai Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 You mean Sturgeon's Law, Neito? It applies to ... lots of things. Can't say I've ever been to Literotica or any of the other acronymic smut archives, so I'll hold judgment on that point. AFF may have its share of badfic, but we make up for that by having a nice, relatively friendly user base (IMO).
Neito Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Read the wiki article i pointed to. You'll see the Law and the Revelation are two separate things.
Iggy_lovechild Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Meh...Whatever. I find more quality stories here than...certain other sites bash AFF constantly. Anyway, the folks at GAFF hate pretty much everyone, so I don't really take it as offence.
dazzledfirestar Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Alright.... who wants to get tee-shirts? Come on, voles are cute see... Someone could draw a little cape on him, maybe a mask and we can call him UBER-VOLE! Protector of AFFites all over the web!
Guest Adara Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 LoL, talk about owning it! They are cute! LOL
dazzledfirestar Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Hey! If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at! I still wish I had the artistic talent to give him a little superhero outfit!
Leonhart29 Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Well, look at it this way. At least they didn't call us Lemmings - all of us following blindly off of the cliff of bad taste without a backwards look.
Iggy_lovechild Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 But perhaps we should seriously think about this... If AFF is the "Nest of Voles" (or whatever) and the authors are "uber-voles" they're just talking about the bad writers. Yeah.... I mean, we're the good authors, right? Don't we get a name?
dazzledfirestar Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I still say embrace it! I think we've all be called worse than Ubervoles in our lives!
Nanaea Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Very cute, Daz. Did you do that yourself?
dazzledfirestar Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Yes, Nanaea, I did. Now everyone can see that I have no artistic talent whatsoever!
