Hi, just a quick question -- I've noticed in the originals section (both in the erotica/sex and romance subcategories) that some stories show both the date and the time for when they were updated, whereas some show only the date. For example, my story, 'The Princess and the Slave' show only the date -- Updated [2008-01-06 00:00:00] -- whereas 'Christmas Dessert' shows both the date and the time -- Updated [2008-01-05 23:08:03]. It's not really a huge deal, but I was wondering if there were any plans to streamline this in the future. Thanks! birdie.

Chapter three is up! Reviews/concrit/ratings greatly appreciated!

That's so exciting! Can't wait to see what will be unveiled -- the new changes thus far have been awesome!

So now that I'm posting fics on AFF, I've been trying to get my ass in gear and leave reviews for other authors, but I was wondering -- what do people look for in a 'good' review? I really hate leaving things as simple as 'great fic, keep going,' but I'm curious to find out the types of concrit, etc, authors enjoy reading. Any thoughts?

Chapter 12 is now up!

Hi Everyone! I posted this story about a month ago in the 'Erotica/Sex' subcategory of the Originals archives but took it down after a couple of weeks because it wasn't getting that many hits. It's been reposted in the Romance section, so if anyone is interested, please check it out! I'd definitely love any feedback or concrit! Thanks! Title: Finding Eden Author: hisbabybird Rating: Adult+ Summary: Adam Elliot, first man, travels from Creation to the present-day to find his Eve and the family that he lost so long ago in this retelling of the Creation myth. An ode to love, to relationships, to searching and finding the Eden that lies within the ones we need to make us whole. Feedback: Greatly appreciated! Great question, Beth! I really enjoy reading the various responses -- awesome to "see" how each author approaches naming a little differently. Amusingly enough, my main source of character names has always been baby name books, because I like knowing the origins and meanings of the names. Thinking in terms of my current story, 'The Princess and the Slave,' the baby name books were really secondary. Pierce, one of my current characters, was actually a name I pulled from one of the James Patterson 'Alex Cross' novels. Antony was suggested by my beta, as was Sweet, and Birdie was a name that's been floating around in my head for a few months. Their names, though, definitely suit their personalities. Pierce is a varient of 'Peter,' meaning rock, and he is most definitely the rock and foundation for his father's evil enterprises. While Antony may go off on tangents of vain glory, ambition and arrogance, his son is there to offer the physical prowess and martial expertise to bring his plans to fruition. The meaning for 'Antony' is unknown (though a few of my sources say that it is 'beyond price, invaluable'), but it carries with it the connotation of power, hubris, arrogance and greed. Birdie's name most definitely fits the character -- she chirps, flits, flounces and prances about like a wee little peacock, vain about her looks and demanding of everyone's attention. And Sweet, of course, is just that -- completely innocent and lovable, even when she's being demeaned and subjected in the worst possible ways by her Master. So, above all, the names I use definitely need to fit the vibe of the story and the personalities of the characters themselves.

I pretty much seem to be incapable of writing short stories -- everything I've done for the past few years has been at least 100 pages and over. Just too many ideas to write, you know? In terms of reading, I really do enjoy both short PWPs and long, involved tales, especially the ones that keep me on the edge of my seat. Really, the only criteria I have for a tale is that it be fairly well-written. Poor grammar and misspellings turn me off.

I've only got one story posted so far, but I'd love to get more feedback on it: Title: "The Princess and the Slave" Summary: The powerful Lord Elliot claims his slave and introduces her into the twisted world of sex, servitude, and his own beloved family. Off I go to read and review a few tales...

Hi All! Just thought I'd promote my original story, "The Princess and the Slave." It's been posted up in the Erotica/Sex category for the past month or so, but now that I've finally figured out how to use the forum, I thought I'd post a blurb about it here as well. There are about 11 chapters so far and I've got a lot more planned for it, but it would be great to get some feedback. Title: The Princess and the Slave Author: hisbabybird Rating: Adult++ Summary: The powerful Lord Elliot claims his slave and introduces her into the twisted world of sex, servitude, and his own beloved family. AU, Slave, S&M, BDSM, D/s, N/C, Oral, Bondage, Humil, Language, WIP, M/F, Minor, Fet, SoloF, SoloM, Exhib, Anal, Toys, Spank Feedback: Greatly Desired! Oh, I do have a soft spot for the mad scientist! Antony Elliot, the current main character of my story 'The Princess and the Slave,' is not only a power-hungry dictator and dom, but also has a hobby of mixing up potions and such in his lab to further is own twisted ends. It's definitely a minor part of the plot, but I've been kicking around a one-shot devoted entirely to his experimenting exploits.

The ideas come in a variety of ways, from a line in a song or a conversation with friends to a single screencap from a movie or television show. Of course, there are days when the characters in my head start to speak insistently and refuse to leave me alone till I've scribbled down a scene. The idea for my current story, "The Princess and the Slave," came from a couple of shots in the 'Sweeney Todd' trailer -- Judge Turpin looking old and leering in his cravat and period coat, and his pretty 16 year old ward leaning out the window of the room where she's being held. Add in a minor-subplot, a D/s relationship, a bit of political intrigue, and lots of smut, and you've got a rather twisted (but hot) story. Funny how the smallest things can spawn an entire universe.

It's definitely a really cute and hot warm-fuzzy fic, the kind of thing I wish happened to me when I was in high school! Yup, I recommend it to. It's a fun read, even if I'm still not totally sure where the plot is off to.

Hi all! *waves excitedly* My name is Birdie, and while I've been reading fics on AFF for a couple of years and writing erotica for a while, I've finally posted up my first story. My favorite stories are the ones that feature D/s relationships and BDSM smut (floggers and head-harnesses and gags and paddles, yay!), though I'm also known the haunt the x-men archives. I like pushing the envelope with my tales, and the thing that I love best about this site is that pretty much everyone else does as well. Glad to be on the boards!

Hmm, where to start? I'm OCD-obsessive when it comes to writing -- the characters in my head start to talk and it's bye-bye-birdie till I've managed to scribble out a chapter or two. I'm also rather guilty of arrogance and pride, taking on more than I can handle, and suffering from the not-so-occassional bout of self-consciousness. All in all, makes for an interesting combo...

20 going on 21. Nice to see the range.

It's definitely frustrating not to get any feedback on my tale, but I will admit that before I started posting stories on the archives, I never actually thought about reviewing other stories I read. A lot of people, I think, are either too busy or shy to leave anything behind, and while I'd love to hear some good constructive criticism, I figure that fact that I haven't gotten flamed yet is a good sign. 'Course, I can't help but gaze longingly at the few stories that have managed to get more than ten reviews. Makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong...

Just out of curiosity -- I've noticed that, in addition to the dates in which stories were updated, several stories also have timestamps showing the hour and minute when the update occured. For example, "Shell Game" in the Erotica/Sex category is displayed as follows: "Updated [2007-12-27 19:54:16]" Other tales merely show the date alone, which is how my story displays: Updated [2007-12-26 00:00:00]. Any plans on streamlining this in the future?
