  1. When posting your support request, please

    for the archive:

    • list the archive affected (i.e. books.adult-fanfiction.org)
    • tell us specifically what the error is (if the program kicks an error code)
    • if the program behaves unexpectedly, please give us a detailed explanation

    for the forum:

    • list the error generated by the forum
    • if the program behaves unexpectedly, please give us a detailed explanation
    • if the board behaves in an unexpected manner, please give me details to the behavior.

These are two very different programs, so it will kick different kinds of errors.

As the archive "lives" across different subdomains, it's important to know which subdomain, exactly, you were in when an error occurred.

The more information you provide, the easier it is for us to solve any problems which may occur. smile.gif

    Thanks!

  2. This is a replacement for the Yahoo Beta group. To my knowledge, no one has any lists of who was in that group (I was as well), or any beta readers who were on any lists that were created in that group. The moderator of this set of forums has rules put up which would be advisable to read. You can find them here. Then, you would post the information requested, and that would be considered your registration as a beta reader.

The forum itself does not automatically email a user when topics are added and/or updated. You have to choose that as an option, by subscribing to a forum or topic. To do this, click the link at the top of the topic you're viewing, or click the link at the bottom of the posting forum. If you subscribe to a topic, you will be emailed notification when it's been replied to. If you subscribe to a forum, you will be emailed notification when a new topic is started, or a topic is replied to.

On the flip side of that, if you wish to unsubscribe to a topic or forum, you go into "My Controls", go to the subscription block and then view topics or subscriptions. You can then select which ones to remove from your subscription list.

  3. Why-
Disclaimers are needed to not only protect the archive itself, but the user, individually. By disclaiming stories, the archive is protected to the point of worst case scenario being deletion of content, and the user is protected whereby the archive is better able to protect the user's information on file, particularly the emails.

    What is needed-
    For fanfiction-
Say that you do not own the fandom, by NAME of that fandom. Character disclaimers are not enough. Say you make no money on the fiction.
    Example

    Crossover fanfiction-
ALL fandoms in the story must be disclaimed. If the user knows they're going to exceed the 240 character limit in the disclaimer field, then put in that field “see full disclaimer below”, and do the FULL disclaimer as required. It only needs to appear in the first chapter, if disclaiming in this manner.

    Celebrity/Real person fiction-
The author must state they do not know the person (or group), they must state that it is fiction, and they must state that there is no money/profit made.
    Example

    Original fiction-
The author must state it's a work of fiction, and include a resemblance clause.

    Original poetry-
The author must state it's a work of poetry, and include a resemblance clause.

    Original non fiction-
The author must state that it's a work of non fiction. They then must state that where possible, permission has been granted by the person (or people) involved in the story.

Fiction based on Myths, Legends, and Fairy Tales-
The original fiction disclaimer should be used for these stories.
    Example for the above

Fiction based on books which are now public domain-
The author needs to acknowledge the fandom in some fashion (whether inspired by or whatever), and add a resemblance clause, like what is required for original fiction.

    Blanket disclaimers in profile
We don't accept them, as there are entirely too many categories throughout the archive, for it to be effective. You MUST attach a disclaimer to each and every story you add.

I have included links to examples, so that you know exactly what we're looking for. The reason for the brevity, is the fact there are ONLY 240 characters available in the disclaimer field, and spaces do count as characters within the field.

Verbose disclaimers within a chapter do NOT count as an author note, as that is not what they are. If you need to make a disclaimer which is more than 240 characters, in the disclaimer field, simply input -See full disclaimer below (oneshots) or See full disclaimer chapter 1 (multichapter). This TELLS us where to look.

  4. SFW rating

This rating means "Safe For Work", meaning no sex or anything explicit. If you wouldn't want your boss - or grandmother - reading it then do not using this rating.

    Adult rating

Simple drabbles, songfics, and poetry usually belongs here. Stories that are rated "Adult" can also include things such as strongly suggestive imagery or situations, heavy groping, insinuations of sexual activity, adult language, and violence -- the key is that stories rated this way are generally nonexplicit in their descriptions.

    Adult+ rating

Most AdultFanFiction.net Stories fall into this category -- these are Stories that are clearly for mature audiences only. Stories that might be given the "Adult+" rating include things such as explicit sexual activity, unapologetic violence, descriptive fight scenes which allow for all due blood and gore, and a limitless adult vocabulary.

    Adult++ rating

No holds barred here, really -- this rating should be applied to all Stories that are not for the faint of heart. "Adult++" is how we suggest you rate a Story that involves heavy or off-the-wall kinks, the darkest of plotlines, intense psychological mind games, excessively gory or disturbing depictions of torture or death, unusually graphic descriptions of sex, gratuitously crude language, or the addressing of acutely controversial subjects.

  5. I realize that this is something that most of you like to play with. The problem with it, is once again a language thing. This modification, just as the board, was written in php3. So, it no longer correctly parses. I found that out by accident when I went to adjust a few things which should've just let me do what I needed (increase cost on one, decrease cost on another). As a result, the Magic Markers died. For now. The new item (snowball) which was added before I came onboard never worked correctly. I tried various functions to repair the tables and such as well, and none of them fixed the problem as they should have. Had manta2g run a more indepth db function for me as well on those specific tables in an attempt to repair the glitch.

Anyway, once the board itself is upgraded, the modification has also been rewritten to accomodate the changes in the scripting language as well. So, it will be there again, only an updated version, just as with the board.

Forgot to mention this awhile back, sorry about that.

  6. technology is released with planned obsolescence in mind, and ways for the rest of us to spend more money. I've not messed around much with iPods other than looking at a couple of 'em, how exactly do they store? Is it built in with the addition of being able to add a flash card? Or does it come with a smaller flash card for storage that you upgrade (much like a digital camera)?

  7. There are two ways to do this.

    First:

    1. Make sure you're logged into the correct category where your story is; i.e. "Books", "Harry Potter", etc.

    2. Mouseover "Member Tools" in the menu and select "Author Panel" from the dropdown menu.

    3. Click "View Profile".

    4. Find where it says "Reviews" for the story. If a review has been left then it will have a number after it; click that number to read your review/s.

    5. Click the "Remove Review" button.

    6. You are then returned to your user "Author Panel"

    Second:

    5. Copy the review ID number you wish to remove.

    6. Go BACK to your user "Author Panel"

    7. Find the "Remove Reviews" link and click that.

    8. Select the story from the dropdown menu who's review you wish to remove.

    9. Paste the review ID into the field for it, that you previously copied.

    10. Click "Remove Review"

    9. You are then returned to your user "Author Panel"

  8. My problem was always how they created pain when I'd do things like ride my horse, play baseball, stuff like that. For an ACTIVE woman, anything overly large is inconvenient and can be physically painful. I agree with that anything over a C is too large, simply because of the comfort factor. One thing I did/do though, is double bra (sport bra over the support bra) when running, riding, that sort of thing. It helps a quite a bit.

  9. I've seen this before in MMORPG setups. You remember when EVE: Online was released? They did the same thing for that game. The problem is, when they have to make updates to the servers, they tend to do it all at once for all servers. There's something else at play there too, as well, I think. If all but one server is down, and that one server is frequented by one or two clans, it gives those clans advantage. Especially if there's any kind of tournaments or things of that nature that are ongoing. So it's a way of putting everyone on an even keel.

  10. As we all know, there are people who go to discussion boards and groups and make posts designed to create problems with the members of that community. Frequently, you'll see that sort of behavior in political discussion, religious discussion, things of that nature. Where a poster (almost always someone new to the community) posts an opposing argumentative view to piss off the other posters in the topic. It's certainly obvious enough when it happens. Trolls tend to show a PATTERN in posting.

There are a couple ways to handle them. First is to NOT feed the troll. Ignore him or her. Simple, and usually works. The second option is also simple. report the post and member. Forum admin (me) will handle it from there.

  11. First of all, everyone has their own unique viewpoint as to what actually constitutes flaming. For the purposes of the forum, I'll keep it on a simple level. By flaming, I mean no PERSONAL attacks of other forum members in your posts. You know, no name calling, directly verbally attacking another member to incite a problem.

If a member does flame another, there will be consequences if the behavior persists.

Generally, I've found that a private request to take the argument private usually works, and there is not usually a NEED to place someone on moderated status. That's something that will only occur where absolutely necessary. In other words, we don't want to prevent healthy discussion, and/or heated discussion. But flaming someone directly is not acceptable as a method of posting and will be dealt with accordingly.

  12. Duplicate accounts will be deleted.

Generally, if a Member has two Forum accounts, the one with fewer posts will be deleted. If the reason for creating a duplicate account is because you no longer have access to the email you registered with, for example, rather than creating a duplicate account, simply email forums@adult-fanfiction.org SUBJECT: Forum account problem. Detail the nature of your problem, and it can be usually be corrected in short order.

Do not create a duplicate account to relieve restrictions upon your main one; it is possible that this will earn you a stricter punishment than the one you were originally assigned. We are penalizing the Member, not an account.

So you all know, if I FIND a duplicate member, duplicates are subject to IMMEDIATE deletion without notice, upon discovery.

  13. Yes. It's certainly easy enough to move the topics. Although I should have it back up here very shortly. Found out what exactly happened too, but no fixing it dammit. Apparently, when the outside db util was run on the forum db, it must not have been done in quite awhile. What happens then, is that sometimes, a record is actually a bit garbled, and the utility will repair the field by deleting it. The only way to avoid that is to run the utility on a regularly scheduled basis, which has been set up. I'd run into this before years ago with this software, and had set up a cron to handle it then. In any case, that's been handled so it should not reoccur.

I haven't quite gotten as far in the archive restructure as the comics subdomain yet. Have been kicking around a few thought as to how to start those categories for it, and of course, the forum itself will reflect that.
