  1. The second picture also shows you as logged in. If the archive was still in read only mode, you wouldn't be logged in at all.
  2. Refresh your browser, and if that doesn't work, clear you cookies and cache
  3. That's what I was talking about. Before, when you clicked in to a top level category, all you saw was subcategories, no story listing AT ALL. Now, instead, you see the latest, UNTIL you go the first posting category. That's actually the way it's supposed to work. The Teen Titans category you clicked in to is a TOP LEVEL category, non posting. All you would see would be the next level of categories down, in the old script. Now, the next level of categories is to the left in the menu, and the latest listing still displays, UNTIL you click in to the next level category.
  4. I think I see what he's talking about. Until you click on the POSTING category link, you see the entire latest listing. That's honestly not a big deal. So, you click in to your posting category, and the only stories listed are those within that posting category. I expect that yes, there'll be some refinement of the listing, but bear in mind that all of this is very much a work in progress at the moment. First, we make things work. Then we refine how they work. See?
  5. ...and again... Tonight READ ONLY MODE starts at 6 pm EST, and ends at or after approximately 9 pm EST
  6. aw thank you

  9. That has to do with text linebreaks in the story, where the user uses _______________________ < ---that sort of thing. It buggers up the screen draw, no matter what size screen you have.
  10. The boolean search is basic search in MySQL. It's been the default search since the site started, yes. This is why we have installed the sphinxsearch engine, as it's much more powerful. Unfortunately, as I said, the code does not yet support sphinx. Once it does, then yes, we'll be able to do more with search. Having said that, however, in order to not bog down the database itself, it's a common practice to LIMIT your results anyway. I expect we'll experiment with that, and see where our upper limit will be for the search once we have sphinx ported in. I DON'T expect to be able to search thousands at a time. Dedicated server or not, that'd kill the database for query load, and crash the site.
  11. The 100 item limit is the boolean search limit from MySQL itself. One of the things that will be incorporated is the sphinx search engine, that 's already installed, but that the code does not yet support. Harry Potter is actually a subdomain, by the way. How the search works, and I expect this will be maintained, is that you can only search in the subdomain you're in. For example, if in originals, you can't search buffy stories. You have to be in buffy to do that. Having the story codes within their own separate table and fields will make it so that a FILTER can be written, so that will certainly help for the tags.
  12. I've revised my schedule, because my RL work schedule is amping up. To ensure I get this done as quickly as possible, I'll be putting the archive in to READ ONLY mode every day for approximately 4 hours at a time. For today: 3 pm EST to 7 pm EST 2-14 - 3 pm EST to 7 pm EST 2-15 - 6 pm EST to 9 pm EST 2-16 - 6 pm EST to 9 pm EST Because I ran so much of the clean up queries yesterday, I expect for the character set conversions themselves to go more smoothly than they have been, as well as more quickly. The Monday through Friday times will start at 6 pm as I've stated above. I honestly do NOT expect this to take longer than tomorrow, but we'll see. I will do this every day until I am finished.
  13. Usually what tambra is describing is caused by a malformed cookie. PROVIDED it's not from attempting a password reset with the same password. The other thing is if the user's browser is in need of an update (I've experienced this with Chrome), the browser itself will start acting twitchy UNTIL you update it.
  14. @kayjaypea As I've said before, the site does not yet have a mobile skin. Selectable skins are a bit in to the future yet. In the meantime, we do try and keep things as mobile friendly as we can in the desktop version for now. To get to the point where we can start developing selectable skins, there is much more coding that has to be done first. The rest of the chapter functions, reviews, and much back end stuff that needs to be written yet.
  15. Not so much lazy, as not knowledgeable. WordPress can be installed on any server. If you don't keep it updated, just like anything else, it becomes vulnerable. Particularly where it relies on old java script that has known vulnerabilities. There is GOOD java too. MOST of it is good, solid code. But, some java code doesn't get updated when other things do, and this is what causes the vulnerability with it.
  16. Don't feel bad Bronxie, that was just added back a few days ago. I was so buried in the database, I didn't notice it either.
  17. Although that's about WordPress based sites, much of it does apply. I do regularly scan the site with Sucuri's free site check, and we stay clean. I changed the adserving software due to vulnerabilities in the old software, which subjected this site to malicious code injection via the java for displaying the banners. That was a crazy three or so weeks while I tracked it down and figured out why, and then had to clean the site a few times while still using the old adserver software. We haven't had that issue since I changed the software. This also brings up exactly WHY file uploads are limited to text files. One can insert all kinds of malicious code in macros. That's why we don't allow upload of .doc/.docx, .ods, or anything LIKE that, because of the security risk entailed with what can be inserted via a macro in a document.
  18. When you're in any archive, above the category listing, is search archive. As to the page break, yes, I agree. I really wish they'd opt to use the horizontal rule instead. It's the icon next to the text formatting. If they don't choose to do that, fine. LIMIT the amount of nonbreaking character line to say, 40 characters, and the stretch will disappear.
  19. Did you login using the center boxes or the boxes on the upper right? If you logged in using the center boxes, those are for activation and registration. You have LIMITED access. You need to logout, then BACK in, using the boxes at the upper right. Then, click "My Control Panel" and you'll see your story options under your profile options, on the left side menu
  20. You're welcome
  21. Try it now please, and let me know what you see. I think I found it.
  22. good!
  23. I keep trying to replicate this issue, and so far, haven't been able to. IF I manage to do so, it'll point me at what needs to be addressed.
