We're actually having a problem with the graphics library on the host server at the moment, which is why the uploading doesn't quite want to work. manta2g is getting with that tech to get it upgraded, and to install another graphics engine as well for our use for it. As to privatizing the avatar, I don't believe that's possible. Leeching I can find, track and stop, as they'd be leeching bandwidth from our host server. That's something that I actually monitor for.

It's not been changed yet. The old password still works. Read the pinned message

Try doing your search like so.... sai* That will qualify it for four letter. Be sure to check the "boolean search" function as well. In response to whether or not the search engine will allow searches where the character limit is less than four, it won't happen. That kind of searching simply puts too much strain on the hardware framework, not to mention it slows down accessing the database tables for everyone else.

As I've said numerous times already, I am WELL aware of the general disorder in the fiction portal. So is everyone else who would be making changes to it to so that we (the admin and mods) can actually fix it. I say again that there are a number of long term projects already being worked on for this very problem. One is an overall restructure altogether. That is being done offsite, and will remain up as a template for us to work from when the time comes for us to start making the changes. Another is locating misplaced stories, keeping record of them, so that it'll be easy to backtrack and MOVE them to their proper locations once the archive has been updated to allow us to do what is planned. Finally, an overall cleanup of the archive itself. Meaning finding duplicate users, merging them (so their data is not lost), finding and deleting orphan stories, and a host of other things that need to be gone over and done; BEFORE we even start with massive upgrades as is planned for the fiction portal. Believe it or not, there is a LOAD of work to do just to get the thing ready for upgrading. It's doubtful that you (the users) will see much of the background legwork that is necessary and is being done. The only truly visible parts of it at this point in time will likely be deletion of orphan stories.

You Know What Would Really Be Useful A Dictionary, Of
DemonGoddess replied to Calanthee's topic in Writers' Corner
Calanthee, start a topic specifically for it, and I'll pin it so it can be added to. -
Check your onboard battery. It's a lithium battery next to a set of jumpers, and then you have to also reset and clear CMOS. If it's not the CMOS battery, check your RAM next.

I agree with ya on the one single category thing. And the disorder. Which drives me batty. I THINK maybe the determiner as to where the parent should actually live, insofar as to the primary category, should be something like where it originated. Using Transformers as the example as has been ongoing through this thread, since it's origins are anime/manga, then its category would look something like this: anime>transformers>anime/cartoon/movie/comic or something along those lines. Definitely something to kick around tho, as one should not have to jump all over the place to find things that belong to an initial category such as this one.

not sure on that. I believe that would be an admin function, to remove the file. I'll try again with those file specs for image size, and see if it works for me.

how's it not working? hardware or software failure?
-
yup, you and a few others. As soon as I have my next off day (tomorrow) I should have something for you 50 levels and you 100 levels

Frags are yer kills when you kill someone, you get a frag for killing them. If you kill someone who has frags, you can steal THEIR frags as well. I think it's more or less a status thing.

I just checked on that for you. First, be sure that you are IN the Naruto archive before going to your userpanel to upload. Apparently, you must be in the specific archive to be able to upload to that archive. For example, if you are in the anime archive/subdomain (default when going to straight to your user cp), anything you try to upload will only allow to upload to that particular subdomain and no other. Hope this helps.

I tried three different file types (jpg, gif, png), and none of 'em worked for me either. Short file name, images no bigger than 8k, and the images themselves are 77x80. Filed it in the bugtracker.

All I can do is say, once again, that this is not being ignored. In fact, it's part of a long term project to GET everything better organized. However, understand that we are talking LITERALLY thousands of stories that will need to be moved once the recategorization is in place. It's going to take some time to do it. Please bear in mind, that the software used for the fiction archive is not designed to allow us to mass move stories and keep them attached to their reviews, ratings, and authors. Something I can easily do in the forum, sure, but it was WRITTEN that way. Sure, I could manipulate them around in the database, but then all the attached data would be not where it's supposed to be, with the story itself. That wouldn't do us any good in the long term. The tools necessary to allow us to undertake this huge task (and it is a huge task) are being written. Before we unleash the tools, we have to test them to be sure that they perform as we expect, and not scramble everything there. That's something we don't want.
-
PLEASE do not place your requests for tech support, general questions, or anything other than a request for a new FAQ in this subforum. This forum is only for requesting additions to the FAQ files for the archive.
-
As soon as the tools are in place to move them without losing reviews, ratings, and links to the author, yes, they will be attended to.

Is/was There A Female Equivalent Of Chivalry?
DemonGoddess replied to foeofthelance's topic in Aimless Babble
haha, saw this topic and courtly love actually came to mind. . One of the biggest proponents of it, historically, was Eleanor of Aquitaine -
well sure. Could make it a combination of the two, in that it would LOOK like a traditional type medal, but what hangs off the ribbon is not traditional
