  1. You're: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest!

    by Ken Kesey

You're crazy. This has led people to attempt to confine you to a safe place so that you don't pose a danger to yourself or others. You feel like you pose a great danger to the man (or maybe the woman) or whatever else is keeping you down. But most of the time, you just end up being observed. Were you crazy before you were confined?

    haha. that's great.

  2. for me, a good story has plot, interesting characters and it continues to draw you in, no matter how many times you read it. and i would love to put my own story up here and say it's one of my faves, but i'm really actually not that into pimping my own story. so i'll pimp somebody else's. nomme de plume has written a plethora of incredible stories, but my favorite of piece of work from her would have to be here's to the fox in the naruto fandom. it's incredible. the plot's original and fresh. the characters are wonderful. and i can't tell you how many times i've read this story.

  3. i am terrified to death of birds. they scare the living crap out of me. if there are birds gathered in one area, i go someplace else. if somebody has birds in their home, i have a hard time being anywhere near the house. i hate seeing them anywhere. i hate them. they scare the shit out of me.

also, i'm terrified of noises in my house. if i'm not one hundred percent sure of any noise a house makes, i'm afraid it's something out of the ordinary.

i also have a lot of paranoid induced fears: the tree in front of my house is going to fall on the house, the ceiling fans will fly off of the ceiling and behead us all, big rigs will crush me in my car if i get between them, the dogs are going to eat my face off, the floor creaks so one day it's just going to completely collapse on me, i'm going to drown in the tub if i fall asleep, etc.

  4. while it seems that you've managed to get an intelligent threatening letter, it still would prove to be vastly time consuming for the person to pursue something like this. this is, for all intents and purposes, an adult site where adults can gather and share their writings, regardless of whether they offend somebody or not.

true, pedophilia in any form is a squick of mine. it does nothing for me, but some people happen to find the emotional ramifications of those kinds of stories to be incredible. and yes, some people write it purely for the shock value, but some people actually do it to find a way to explore what actually happens.

the tos say that you won't write anything involving real characters under the age of 18. this story, as disturbing as it may be, is about an original character. it doesn't involve the child next door and what his daddy does to him. it's a fictional invention of the author and an opportunity for her to express herself, however she sees fit. she has all of the proper alerts and warnings and codes on the story, so she really doesn't violate any of the things that she agreed to when she signed up.

and if you were going to remove the stories that do deal with main characters under the age of 18, you would have to remove the majority of the fandoms available here. starting with naruto, final fantasy, the gundams, inuyasha, harry potter, fullmetal alchemist, bleach, loveless, avatar, teen titans, etc., as a majority of published materials deals with children in the main characters- focusing on younger and younger audiences.

and then, because that is a personal opinion in regards to the nature of fiction as it was presented, you would need to remove everything that offends other people. and that would take away from the slash, the fem-slash, bestiality, and threesomes. because to somebody somewhere that's an offensive topic. if you were to bow to everyone who expressed a distaste for stories that involved things they didn't like, there would really be nothing here. no one agrees completely with the next person about what is a good story- sexual or not.

the first amendment states that a person has the freedom to express themselves as long as it doesn't harm another person. yelling fire in a crowded movie theater is bad because you can hurt people. writing a story that involves a child is not bad because you aren't doing anything. as i understand most writing to occur, you don't actively write with another person egging you on.

besides, the person who wrote you as a member of the community agreed to the tos and what they entailed. including:

By using AdultFanFiction.net, I am demonstrating my beliefs that the material it exhibits is not obscene, fundamentally offensive, or in violation of any other person's rights.
by being a member of this site, s/he as agreed that people will write what they want to write, and as a member of this adult site, it will not be seen as obscene and that they are entitled to write what they want.

every person has their own idea of what is acceptable and what isn't. this person finds that stories with a minor isn't good, in their own opinion. and that's what it all really boils down to. it's an opinion of this person. and kudos to him/her for expressing his/her opinion, but it can't be allowed to influence the entire site.

i write stories that involve children in sexual situations, and i don't regret it. and i won't apologize for it either. this is an adult site where i am allowed to express myself however i see fit. if i wanted more restrictions on my stories, i would look into other sites that offered limits.

so, don't give in. it's not going to do much but agitate other writers.

  5. unfortunately, there's not really a lot that can be done. people will review if they want to, and they won't if they don't.

i do know that there's a review exchange thread in the review forum where you can post your story to have it reviewed. it basically works like this: you review somebody's story (and do more than good job, write more soon) and post one that you would like to have reviewed. somebody reviews it and puts their story up in reward for reviewing your story. that's a good way to try to get your reviews up.

but really, there's not a lot that can be done to increase your review ratio. unless you can make somebody start reviewing every story they read. (which would be wonderful, wouldn't it?)

  6. it's possible, and i've seen a lot of very well written rp's turned into stories. the thing to remember with that though is that you have to go about editing that rp with a serious editor's eye. you can't leave any traces that it's an rp put up for reading.

if people are going to read a story, they want to see well thought out plots and they want to see things that flow. rp format can be very disruptive, without an editor's surgical eye to fix it. but, if you can read through it seriously, you can create a decent, enjoyable story.

the best way to do it is to edit it as a third person. don't edit it as one of the authors of the story, think of yourself as a third person completely, so that you can stay objective. when you've finished it and you're satisfied, find a beta who is completely unfamiliar with the rp and have them read through it. if the beta can read it seamlessly without finding obvious clues about the different authors, than it's good to go. that's my advice.

  7. i have no excuse to use for myself because i'm guilty of a certain little bad habit i have, and i can't get too mad about people who don't review my own stories since i'm a reader and not all the time reviewer. it would be nice to say i have reviewed everything i have ever opened in my browser.

but i haven't. and a lot of the times, it's because i see a story at the top of the list of the stories and open it to have a look, especially because it's got a decent rating and a fair number of reviews. i look at the story and am absolutely appalled by the content within the story. so i click the back button. there's a hit, but no review.

i'm a firm believer that you should review a story you read. but sometimes, it's best to exercise the shining rule: 'if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.' when i review, and it's not a great story but has potential, then i prefer the sandwich review technique. basically you say something nice to start things off, give your criticism, then finish off with something nice. it softens the blow, especially if you've a lot to say negatively about the story. generally, you should be able to find something positive about a story, regardless of anything else.

but, i have to say that perhaps some people click on stories and don't like what's going on within in so they hit the backspace. and that's okay, i suppose. it sucks, because it drives the hits up and kills the review/hits ratio, but it's best to have somebody look at the story, decide they don't like it, and leave it alone than to have somebody who is disgusted by your story and flame you.

however, when i do review, which is pretty frequently, i leave detailed reviews. as a beta reader, i feel it's important to tell people what they have done well, to tell people what i enjoyed within their story. it's also important to point out to somebody what i think could have been improved and what i would have liked to have seen. people post stories to make them better writers, that is my firm belief. and i want to do everything that i can to try to help them along.

  8. in my opinion, just about any review is a good review. and i am one of those people who will review for each chapter of a story i read, or for a group of chapters. it's always a wonderful feeling to get reviews on the stories that i've put out there, and i can't imagine getting better praise on my stories than to have somebody react enough to it to leave me a comment, no matter how short, long, or how many times they've reviewed the same story. reviews make a person feel good.

and i'm even guilty of repeat reviewing, just because i can. because sometimes, you read a story and you react one way. and then you come back to that story, because for some reason it's stuck in your head, and you review it again because you react a different way. it's about reactions to a story that make you review (be they a good reaction or a bad reaction, you can not deny that you review a story because of it).

just because somebody's forgotten a story, and repeat reviewed is nothing bad. i know a couple of people who review a story once on this site and then they find the story again and review again. it doesn't necessarily mean they forgot the story since the first time they read it, it just means they reacted to the story again. and they want you to know it.

also, a lot of repeat reviewers are going to be people who read a ton of stories. it's not always easy to remember which story you've read, especially when you read a lot of stories. i have a reviewer that reads a ton of stories and even repeat reviews (i know because sometimes i get links from my repeat reviewer to stories that are similar or i would like based on my genre of writing *shrugs*).

while it can be a tad annoying (you're forced to think: is my story not good enough to be readily recognizable in a reader's mind?), it's also complimentary. at least they've come back for a round two.

  9. i would love to see more stories on aff that revolved around plot, rather than porn. i come to aff to read stories more often than not because other fansites i am a part of are rather childish. and it's silly to continue reading on there and trying to weed out stories written by a thirteen year old becomes tiring after awhile.

and yes, i recognize that aff is an adult site. but that's all the more reason for there to be more to it. because adults are the ones who access the site, adults are the ones who contribute (supposedly). that's what makes me prefer aff to other sites.

and i don't like to read an original story unless it's already completed, because i'm picky like that. and i would prefer to read a regular novel from the library, if i could get there. but i can't, for various reasons.

it would just be nice to see more mature work on the site. that's my biggest complaint.

  10. is it just me, or is there a sudden influx of stories that revolve solely around sex? i understand that sex is an enjoyable activity that many people enjoy, but seriously? its as if its all people seem to think about anymore. yes, sex is necessary. yes, sex is important. and yes, sex is fun. but what happened to the stories where sex isn't the main theme? just because sex is so much fun, doesn't mean that it's the main topic that everyone should write about.

now, don't get me wrong. i do, on occasion, enjoy a lovely smutty story devoid of any and all plot. however, more often than not, even when i'm looking for a story with a plot that doesn't revolve around the main characters sexual appetite, i come up pretty close to empty handed. there are stories where sex isn't the main topic, isn't even brought into the story, but they are steadily becoming fewer and further between. and most of them have actually been abandoned.

why is it so hard to read a story about a relationship between two characters that doesn't involve sex? why is it so hard to find a story that deals with emotions, rather than sex? and yes, before people start to get up in arms about it, i know that sex is a factor in both relationships and emotions, but damnit. there's more to them than just sex. there's making somebody fall in love, there's convincing somebody that you love them. there's the desperate yearning for the other person when the lovers are separated. why don't people focus on those things more often?

and i have a general idea. if people have noticed, the general intelligence of the first page of stories on a lot of boards has dropped. you get stories that have the main character magically falling in love with their rapist; mpreg; complete out of character characterizations. and my favorite stories (and i mean this in the nastiest, most sarcastic way possible) the stories that have wonderfully deep summaries and interesting titles and horrendous chapters. has the intelligence of writers diminished? has the desire to read a truly interesting story vanished?

but again, the old saying goes: 'sex sales.' and even in writing, sex sales. unfortunately, the readers want sex. so sex is what the authors give them. no matter how horribly the story suffers for it. and it drives me crazy. i like to enjoy a story where sex isn't the final deciding factor on whether two characters are going to finally get together or not. i like to enjoy a story where relationships, the feelings between the two characters involved, and the way they approach their budding relationship are explored. give me a story with a heart. not a story that's rushed and hurried to get to an anti-climatic sex scene.

but, that's enough about what i think. what's your opinion?

  11. this is an interesting topic, but one that could continue to be debated long into the future.

my opinion on if there is subject matter that isn't acceptable in a story? no, no there is no such thing as a subject that can't be fictionalized and shared with others. the main topic of discussion in this thread has been pedophilia, and while i'll agree that it's one of the more disgusting fetishes that are out there, it's also not going to suddenly disappear because fanfictions don't feature them anymore.

there are several things that i, as a reader, would choose to not read. but i'm also not going to intentionally find a story that doesn't sit well with my personal preferences and tell the author(s) what a crappy story because of the single reasoning that it doesn't go along with what i like the most. the fetish is too... out there for me. now that doesn't mean that i think they shouldn't be allowed to write what they want, it just means that i don't agree with the fetish they are portraying.

there are several things that i, as a writer, would chose to not write about. but i'm not going to stand here today and say that i would never consider writing in one of the topics that i'm leery of. i don't like child molestation, and yet i've written about it. i don't like rape, but i've written about it. i don't like suicide, but i've written about that too. it's a matter of perspective and what the writer is trying to accomplish in writing the story. there are too many ways to portray a single topic that it would be impossible to limit somebody's choice of writing.

besides, if we limit one thing, we have to limit everything. and limits are relative. what i consider a limit, wouldn't be a limit to somebody else. (as can be seen here: i don't care if there are stories that include pedophilia, but monsterking is adamantly against it.) yes, it's true that there are definite trends when it comes to things like fetishes, but it's also true that beliefs change. and as beliefs change, so does the idea of acceptable and unacceptable things. by the way, i'm not justifying pedophilia, which is what this thread seems to be focused solely on.

there are a lot of wonderful things being said here, and when playing on this site, when perusing the archives, one must remember to always, always respect the first amendment. the freedom of speech. and if you have issues with pedophilia specifically, you can always read on skyehawke.

  12. it's something that can be done effectively. the thing you want to make sure that you avoid is an excessive use of song lyrics. you don't want to inundate the story with lyrics. too many lyrics and you lose the quality of the story, you make it so that the reader can't focus on what's important in the story: and that's your characters and plots.

other than that, there are some very successful stories that use lyrics in them. the important thing to remember is discretion. and to remember to properly acknowledge the song and it's artist.

    good luck!

  13. these aren't my own reviews... but a friend of mine posted a team seven fic. and by team seven it means that naruto was with both sakura and sasuke, and it was very clearly stated in the summary that naruto was with them both. one review said, and i quote: "ewwww gros. this is disgusting. ur gross."

and the other said, and again i quote: "whoa so sasuke sakura and naruto r 3some?"

what's wrong with the intelligence of some of the readers these days? are they not paying attention to what's being listed in the summary? >_<

  14. well, it's been my personal experience that if you voluntarily admit yourself, you can voluntarily discharge yourself. and you can do it ama (against medical advice). and in all honesty, if she's not mentally ready, and willing to get help, she's not going to do anything in there but waste time. and when you don't want to be in those quiet, quiet halls, there's nothing else you can do. if you're not ready, it'll be worse for you.

she'll do what she needs to do when she's calmed down enough to take that step.

the only people that need any hopes or prayers are her children and her family that have to suffer through this period of insanity with her. bipolar disorder isn't an easy disorder, and when she learns to control it, to have a better handle on it, she'll be doing much better.

  15. my clothes have to be organized in just the right way. my socks are all matched, my shirts all folded, and my pants folded in half, and folded in half again.

my candies have to be organized in just the perfect order. my m&m's have to be seperated and eaten in two's. the same with skittles and kisses and any other kind of candy in general that's color coordinated. and it's worse when there are easter m&m's. they have to be seperated by color and design.

when i do dishes, they have to be done in a very specific order. plates, bowls, cups, silverware, pots, pans. if they aren't done in order, i can't do them.

i have to have all the doors in my home closed. for no reason in particular other than i need them to be closed.

i have to have all of my things organized into folders within folders.

i have to have my blankets at the same end every time. the part of the blanket that goes at my head, i tore a hole in so that i would be able to distinguish it from the foot-end.

there's not really any particular reasons behind the ocd-ness, it's just getting progressively worse as i get older. i'm afraid of what it's going to develop into....

  16. if you find that there are other sites out there that cater to your specific needs, than by all means, play there. if, while this site is undergoing work you find it hard to continue to read here, then leave. nobody's stopping you. seriously. you have a fandom you prefer to read in, and now that it's been moved around, you can't dally there and it's pissed you off. well, that's great. you're allowed to be pissed off, but don't come on here and insult the techies, don't assume they are attacking a single fandom when everything that they've been doing is for the better of the site.

now, when jaxxy sent you that email in response to your bitching and complaining, she said to start a discussion, not a bitch fest, which this quickly progressed into because of the first post you made. correct me if i'm wrong, but this is the first post on this discussion, is it not: With the way they've changed the Harry Potter category, and particularly Snape/OFC (my favorite too and the only one I read here) it looks to me that they are not part of the Potter fandom, care less about Snape than Rowling does, and that our needs don't matter at all.? in your first response to this, before hearing out what the techies had to say, you insulted them, accused them of not caring, and then proceeded to try to pull the originating poster away from aff. why shouldn't somebody step up and attack you for your presumptuous behavior?

now, you claim to be an adult, that you've weathered many a storm and this is nothing, however your behavior would indicate otherwise. good for you for having a marriage that lasted that long. good for you for making it through a lot of hard times that many others wouldn't be able to handle. but just because you've managed to do that does not excuse you from the rules of polite society. you, as an adult, have the responsibility to behave like an adult, regardless of the situation.

again, like i said before, the site's changing, but they are changing it for the better. things are going to be different, that means you have to learn to use a new system, well that's really too bad. you are an adult, handle it like an adult would. suck it up, and learn to scroll through posts looking for the tag, or just go somewhere else. you can use the search function for snape/ofc, it's really not that hard. if you want to search, look in the member tools. search is perfectly obvious right there. if you want to use search, its the same as always. it hasn't changed. because i went there and did a search for snape/ofc and got a nice long page of suggestions.

the site's going to look different. it's on the front page of all the archives on the site, and it's in several prominent locations on the forum. if you are too lazy to look into subjects that would be relevant to your concern, then please don't voice your own opinions and concerns. you're not being responsible enough to look into the updates of the site. don't be pissy and childish because you don't want to do the extra work that it's going to require while the site undergoes it's facelift.

get off of the damned high horse you're riding and enjoy the site as it is at the moment. if you can't do that, drop using the title adult and go back to being a child. i don't care if you've suffered heavily during life, because so have i. the more you suffer doesn't make you more of an adult. adulthood is rite of passage, not a gathering of trials. you've suffered, so have i. so has everyone else here. we've all suffered different pains and injustices, nobody will ever suffer the same thing as another. so that, in and of itself, is no way to measure adulthood. and if you must know, i'm old enough to collect ssi, old enough to maintain a career, a family life, and a social life.

if you find that working and playing on this site is too difficult for you, that you don't want to do this anymore, then you are more than welcome to leave the site. you aren't being held hostage to stay here. the admins are all thrilled that you are here, that you enjoy the site. but at the same time, while its undergoing this change, you have to have some patience. you have to wait for things to settle down again so that they can find where they need more work, where they need some special attention. the techies are doing their best. they can't please everyone. they do the best they can, and we have to let them do their work.

now, i apologize if this offends you, but understand that i'm defending myself, and my opinion, and my right to say that.

  17. With the way they've changed the Harry Potter category, and particularly Snape/OFC (my favorite too and the only one I read here) it looks to me that they are not part of the Potter fandom, care less about Snape than Rowling does, and that our needs don't matter at all.

Are you familiar with Sycophant Hex and what happened when they tried to change to a new system called Mage? The new system was so f--ked up with new bugs and glitches appearing every day and Their members were very unhappy and leaving in droves. After 6 months the Mage system was FUBB (F--ked Up Beyond Belief) that they had to admit defeat and go back to the old system. I won't be surprised if that happens here unless they give into the needs the readers (and the writers) have.

In the meantime Occlumency, the Snape archive at Sycophant Hex, is where all the Snape/OFC stories are kept. You will find Snape centric non romance stories ans Snape/any canon female except Hermione there too. I only read Snape stories and I lothe the SS/HG pairing. If you want story recommendations or have some to give let me know, I'll be glad to swap recs with you. The are still some archives where it's easy to find SS/OFC and I know most of them.

    Trickie Woo

wow. first of all, just wow. so, the admins are purposefully targeting all the snape/ofc fan-girls/-boys out there because they have some personal vendetta against them all? all of the site improvements have targeted snape/ofc's to maliciously remove that fandom completely from aff? do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? how utterly childish and borderline retarded that makes you appear to be?

the techies are doing as much work as they can possibly do to make the site easier to access, easier to navigate, and at the end of the day, a much more enjoyable foray into fanfiction for each reader and author. now in doing so, it means that things are going to have to change. the unorganized chaos that was the old aff is no more. now there is organization, now there is order. things are easier to navigate. and when things are sorted out and made that much more easier, it makes for an overall enjoyable reading experience. i know that i have yet to find anything to complain about with the new organizing. it looks better, it's easier to navigate. the pages don't appear inundated with crap as they used to. the site moves much quicker.

if that's horrible to you, or if you think they the techies are separating you from everyone else, please, burst the damn ego and get a grip. while realistically nobody can please everybody and somebody's bound to be hurt in the end, the thing to remember about everything that's going on, is that in the end, the site will be that much more enjoyable. it will be a much nicer place to play and enjoy all of the fandoms you so choose, no matter what they happen to be.

so, get over yourself, both of you, and be grateful the techies care enough to even attempt to make it a nicer place to be. that they are trying everything they know how to keep us from being swamped with pop-ups. just be grateful they even care. period. if changes, for the better i might add, are going to offend you, or upset you, then what the hell? how old are you really to be so immaturely hurt? i could almost guarantee you if you actually utilized the 'search' feature while things are being moved to their new homes, you'd find what you wanted. as you can't seem to grasp the use of helpful tools like that, how are you going to learn to run on another site?

  18. yeah, just when i finally decided i could get some sleep and accomplish something, i get woken up at five-thirty because of a freaking earthquake. and as i had never felt anything like it before, i rationalized it all away and put it in the back of my mind until i turned the news on in the morning and realized, it was an earthquake. and i was getting ready for work when the aftershock rolled through.

wierdest thing in the world, and i've dealt with some wierd things.

  19. i got started writing yaoi when somebody challenged me to write yaoi (slash). my best friend told me she wanted me to write something with kouga and inuyasha. and me, being the kind of person that i am, i couldn't turn down the challenge. i had to take it and i had to do it. that's how i got started. because before i could write the story, i had to do research. and with the research came a fascination. and i found i prefer writing yaoi. nothing fancy, nothing spectacular. just... a challenge i couldn't turn down.

The preceding Fanfiction Flame was constructed for use on people not worthy of actual thought or effort in being flamed.

    Original idea by BlackLightning.

Fanfiction version by The Queen of Blueberry Toast.

far from making me upset, i ended up writing another chapter to the story she flamed and then proceeded to having her reported. now, if the site has done anything about her, i don't know. i don't care enough to look her up and find out. she was good for a laugh, and that was it. flames, while they can hurt your feelings, can also give you drive to write more, to write faster, and to update much quicker than you had intended before. but, they can hurt too. i've had reviews that have hurt my feelings, but i have people around me who are sweet enough to help me keep going. that's all.
