  1. Tallywhacker. ...Thank you, Niles Standish and Crank Yankers.
  2. I don't see why the vaccine would have anything to do with attending school. I understand that an unvaxxed child could spread chicken pox, but that's via more casual contact. Unless there's something going on during school hours I don't want to know about, I fail to see how a girl not having this shot is going to endanger her classmates' health. My daughter will not be getting this vaccine. If she wants it as an adult, that will be her choice.
  3. (It is okay if I reply to this, right?) I loved this fanfic and highly recommend it. The writing is great and how can you not love the couple?

1997. A girl posted her negative opinions of my Star Wars fanfiction on her site, and she even went so far as to include my photo from my own site and invite others to write a deathfic about me. For the record, no one took up her challenge. She had some legit issues with the weaker aspects of my fic (including pointing out a Sue I'd naively written and another character who was somewhat OOC) but to her credit, she apologized profusely and took down the photo and flames after I told her I felt they were more of a personal attack than helpful criticism. I did rewrite the Sue into a better character and was more conscious of my writing after that!
  5. Reviews I would delete: Those *@( chain letters ("Post this to xx stories or you'll die.") Text-wrapping nonsense Ads for another fic or site that don't even prove they read mine. (I.e. "Great story. Be sure to visit...") Anything else, even a personal attack or an "Eww, I ignored all your warnings and now I'm squicked, poor me," I'd leave, if for no other reason than to give others a good chuckle.
  6. I do understand there's a difference between writing about something and advocating it, but I don't write minors, i.e. less than age 18, into love scenes, whether with another minor or an adult. Ten years ago it wouldn't have seemed so strange since I'd have been barely over that age myself, but as a 29-year-old and a mom, I can't swing it. Likewise, no incest. I'm also not planning on writing non-con. My last chapter involved a love scene where one of the characters struggled with guilt every moment of the encounter, but true non-con, as opposed to reluctance, I'd never be able to describe in graphic terms. There's a few kinks I just don't "get" on a personal level, like crime scene, watersports, etc. that I'm unlikely to ever write about in any fandom. On the other hand, if I only wrote about things I've actually done in real life, my stories would be mind-numbingly vanilla, so there's a few random kinks that I might have read in literotica stories that reappear in some form in my fanfic.
  7. Wanna know what kind of tree he was after the dye pack exploded? A REDWOOD. XD
  8. Years ago I ran a Star Wars fanfic site and received some humorous slash that I posted. As I recall, that was my intro to the genre. Almost a year ago, I searched for fanfic from my new favorite movie and was amazed to see the amount of slash. I naively assumed it was written by gay men, quickly discovered I was wrong, and before I knew it I'd joined two slash writers' groups and even wrote two slashy fics. Het is still my favorite type of romance story, maybe because I can understand the relationships involved the best, but I'm having fun writing my third slashfic.
  9. I write mostly relationship fanfiction but half the time there's another plot element (an evil character, etc.) that makes it an adventure story as well. My writing tends to involve drama from unusual relationships (swinging, crack pairings, etc.) and humor since the characters (both canon and OCs) aren't the most serious types. That said, attempts to write a purely humorous fic have failed, although I'm more or less satisfied with a horror parody I have in progress. I've written one PWP and one SWP (sensuality without plot) that turned out okay but I prefer developing a good plot to wrap around the love scenes. I write third-person point of view with the thoughts of several characters. During a particular scene, I like showing the audience what both characters are thinking and how they're responding to what's going on. I actually can't recall any fanfiction, let alone of the adult variety, from my fandom that was written in first-person POV but would give props to anyone who attempted it. I'd imagine I'm somewhere in the middle when it comes to dialogue. I prefer some, but not too much dialogue, in the love scenes and a good mix of dialogue and description in any other scene.
  10. I love the old Harveytoons...Baby Huey, Casper, Wendy the Good Little Witch, etc. Looney Tunes, Tex Avery, etc. ~ I'm a sucker for any old cartoon with anthropomorphic animals, vehicles, etc. Popeye Tom & Jerry Anything Hanna-Barbera Pretty much any 80s girly cartoon
  11. I was wondering about this myself. I write for a G-rated fandom *cough*Cars*cough*, so it's not surprising that I have gotten comments from younger readers on my M-rated fics on FF.N and dA. Some of them have even written their own mature fanfiction (not on AFF.N!) before I posted mine. My opinion is that if you're careful to rate your FF.N/dA/LJ fanfiction appropriately, it's up to the reader to decide if he or she is mature enough to read it. It's also up to their parents to decide whether they are okay with their child reading something adult in nature. AFF.N policy is different, so if a minor admitted he or she read my fanfiction on this site, I'd reply asking them not to violate the site rules and insisting they wait to review the fics until they're of legal age. As a parent, I won't have a problem with my kids reading and writing adult stories once they're in their teens. I read plenty of that myself as a teen (my dad had a large sci-fi collection and I knew which books had the juicy parts in them!) and it doesn't automatically influence you to rush out and do all the things you're reading about -- despite years of reading M-rated stuff, I never went all the way until my wedding night. (Hmm...sometimes I think I didn't do that stuff because I spent so much time reading sci-fi, but I digress.) What I would be careful about is your correspondence with your younger fans. There's probably a chance of getting in trouble if you respond inappropriately knowing they are underage. I would steer clear of getting into heavy discussion about the adult content of your story, as you never know when their parents could come across their email account. They might assume you're discussing something other than fanfiction with their child. I might hesitate to beta-read a minor's M-rated fic, but that situation hasn't come up yet.
  12. I haven't done any original stories yet, so the levels of angst and fluff I feel comfortable including in my fic depend on the levels in the movie it's based on. Still, I have to take some license since the movie is for general audiences and therefore isn't overly angsty or fluffy. When it comes to reading other writers' fics, I can be a sucker for total fluff and get really into an angsty story as well. The author has to make either situation be persuasive and realistic to succeed in drawing readers in. Is the source of the angst believable, or are the characters just angsting for the sake of being emo and dramatic? Likewise, would the characters behave as fluffily as they're written?
  13. I'm sure some writers effectively manage their fics the first way, but I prefer having a story on each burner so I can work on whichever's the easiest to write at the moment. If I only wrote one story at a time and got stuck, I'd find myself wasting a lot of time that could better be spent on other fics. Fic 1: A WIP challenge fic that is fairly easy to write but requires input from the members of the bulletin board where I post it. (1 chapter, 1 almost done) Fic 2: A WIP sequel, rated M, that's moving along now that I have good plot ideas but was moving slowly before I decided. (2 chapters, 2 more almost done) Fic 3: Just finished -- a PWP oneshot challenge. It turned out to be harder to write than expected and I had to keep abandoning, then coming back to it. Fic 4: Hasn't been updated in 6 months but I will continue it out of genuine interest rather than guilt over leaving readers hanging. Just not my highest priority. (2 chapters, and a third I just started. Very slow progress!)
  14. I'm working on four if memory serves right, only one of which is an adult fic. On a related note, has anyone written an adult fic while you have an all-ages fic going and suddenly you're finding it hard to keep the all-ages fic from moving up to a higher rating? Maybe it's because it's for the same fandom and character, but suddenly I'm finding it difficult to keep the T-rated fic at the level its earlier chapters were.
  15. I'd blame it on either that or the extreme shaving trend, because I'm guessing back in the days when few women shaved that region and everyone's goods were obscured by hair, there wasn't much of a chance to "compare" yourself to the women nearby in the locker room. I grew up thinking we girls had it much easier than guys because I assumed we were more or less all the same down there, whereas guys might be teased for being shorter or smaller than average.
  16. I prefer the avoidance technique since my characters are non-human and the fandom is still debating how they reproduce. My favorite humorous anatomical reference is "tallywhacker" but I've never seen that in a fic.
  17. Just to keep everyone happy, I threw a "strong rating on chapters # and #" note in my summary so those who wanted to could easily find the smutty stuff and everyone else could read the fic in its entirety. The hits for the chapters with sex scenes did end up a little higher than the "boring" ones. I do realize not everyone wants his or her fic to be read this way, though.
