  8. I completely agree that stupid people should not be protected from themselves. I think we should create roped-off areas for these people so they can't hurt the rest of us. As for the McDonald's lawsuit, it was stupid and she should never have gotten 3 million dollars, but the suit did serve a greater purpose. McDonald's was knowingly making their coffee dangerously hot - hotter than any other coffee supplier at the time. The verdict forced them to warn their customers that the coffee was hotter than normal. She didn't get money because she burned herself, but because they made the coffee too hot. They were punitive damages not compensatory damages (pain and suffering, etc.). Don't get me wrong, when a lady goes through the drive-thru at McDonald's, orders a cup of coffee, places it between her legs - without a lid - and drives away, she should not hold anyone but herself responsible for getting burned. As my criminal justice prof stated, punitive damages from a case like this shouldn't go to the person bringing the suit, they should go to a worthy cause. In this case I would recommend the money be given to a burn unit in the jurisdiction of the case. As it stands right now, not only are we protecting idiots like her, but we are rewarding them for thinking to sue someone else.
  9. One of my friends wants to be a cop in South Carolina because they have a law that says: A man may beat his wife on the courthouse steps on Sundays. As for: I guess, women have to deflower themselves with the illegal dildoes from Texas.

    I Am...

I am trying not to lose what little brains I have left. I am reading so many things right now that I am having trouble keeping them all straight.
  12. I can see its applications, but I can also see several flaws...
  13. I would like to share a quote from the Declaration of Independence. Now I don't want to argue semantics, but "God" and "Creator" were both mentioned in that short quote. This document was written by the same author, who penned the Constitution. The men who sat on the Continental Congress, were men who believed and followed the Christian God. They created the 1st Amendment to the Constitution with the freedom of religion ideal so that no one would be persecuted for following any faith. As for the phrase, "Under God," it was added in the last century. If you don't want to say it or you don't believe in God, omit it. No one will ever know unless you point it out to them. (I find that people tend to be really unobservant.) Now for the reference made earlier about pledging allegiance to a country, I am on a military installation everyday here in England and we have to salute both "The Star Spangled Banner" and "God Save the Queen." I have no allegiance to the queen and never will, but for custom sake and for courtesy, I will pay lip-service to that institution. Anyway, I guess my point is, if you don't want to say it, then don't. If you don't want your kids to say it, inform them that they don't have to say it either. So long as you give respect to those who wish to do so at the appropriate time, no one will fault you for it.

    I Am...

I am doing a drive by posting as it is well past my bedtime. I am hoping to assure Red that Gren will make friends eventually, even if it is with the Grim Reaper.

    I Am...

I am divulging the secret that Solarcaine is a spray (no touching necessary) that numbs the burn. I am a very big fan of that particular spray as I burn quite easily.
  16. I think the worst has to be when I was mistaken for my younger brother. (For any who don't know, I am a girl.) This was sometime around kindergarten and I was walking through the halls of my grandparent's church after girl scouts and one of the parishioners called out for my younger brother. I was the only person in the hall at the time aside from her. She was very embarrassed when she realized I was not a little boy.
  17. SJ, a double-entendre is a word that has two meanings and one of them is usually risque. Anyway, very funny and very Red.
