  1. As a further explanation, for section separation, I had been using a trio of special characters center-justified. This almost never translates over correctly from Word to the site when uploading. I use the text editor on the archive side to adjust things like spacing and alignment once the text itself is uploaded. Thanks again in advance either way.
  2. Hi, @DemonGoddess All of them, or at least the Harry Potter and the Originals archives. The image below is what I get. Thanks in advance.
  3. Yes, friends, it’s been a while since I’ve last updated this story. The story stands, as of right this moment, at 48 chapters. There is “a version” of chapters 49-52. However, they’re an “alternate reality crossover” with a Harry Potter story that is itself a crossover of this story. Say that three times fast. I’ve also received several gracious reviews. While I answered the reviewer directly, I might (should) also post the answers here. AFF now allows the archive authors to post direct links to the AFF Forum, if they choose to do so. You probably got here by clicking the button at the bottom of the chapter. If you got here by some other means, well you know now that you can click over here directly from over there. 😉 Thanks in advance for reading.
  4. Yes friends, here it is! It’s a crossover of a crossover between the HP Universe and an Original Fiction. Four chapters have been posted so far. You are free (within reason) to discuss the story here and ask questions. Answers to any reviews may also be found here. Thanks in advance for reading.
  5. Hello, all. Prior to the last “super-upgrade,” the text editor on the archive side had a feature where you could change the alignment of the text between the default left-aligned to center-aligned, right-aligned, and “justified.” The text editor here still has that, but the one on the archive side does not. Is there any chance of getting that feature back? Thanks in advance either way.
  6. Hi, Deadman and all. I’m a little bit late to the game here. Just the same, I agree with everyone else here that 20k words in a multi-chapter story is a bit excessive. Sometimes, the story flow just won’t let you cut it any shorter. However, if that’s the case, then you had better have some very exciting and readable stuff. An alternative is to put more content in to the chapter, allowing you to split the now 24k chunk of prose into two 9k chapters and a 6k chapter while maintaining both story pacing and reader interest. When looking at stories as a reader, I tend to look for longer, but not “too long” chapters. As a rule of thumb, a 2k chapter is a “Reader’s Digest story of a story,” and more than 20k has me wondering if the writer has any clue about what they’re writing. In “published life,” Theodore Dreiser’s An American Tragedy has a chapter that’s barely two pages, plus multiple chapters that are practically novellas or at least novella length in their own right. Cheers!
  7. Thanks, @BronxWench. It works as advertised, and I uploaded a chapter.
  8. Hi, @DemonGoddess. Help! I tried logging in to the Archive side a few minutes ago, and I got the dreaded “Please activate your account first” box. Thanks in advance to you or “whomever.”
  9. Hi, all. For truly “wrong” romantic/erotic parings, I tend to go towards dark humor. So, Dipper/Mabel isn’t quite a “wrong” pairing, though it raises the question that if they married in Kentucky and divorced in Arkansas, would they still be fraternal twins. I’m thinking more along the lines of Mr. Ed/receptive Wilbur, Granny/Mr. Drysdale, Uncle Joe/every female over the age of consent, etc. Cheers!
  10. Hi, Deadman and all. How big and how strong is the table. If the table is big enough and strong enough to support two adult women performing a sex act without breaking, or if you want the table’s failure to be a feature of your story, then they use the table. Otherwise, they use the floor in front of the booth. While some furniture in some strip clubs is heavily reinforced, most of it is the exact same furniture you would buy to furnish a Denny’s or a Waffle House. So, the girls will likely be using the floor unless you mention in passing that the table was up to it, or that the ladies started on the table and ended up on the floor. Cheers!
  11. Hi, Deadman and all. Deadman, you’re making sense in how you describe the story structure you want to follow. Now, writing it “good enough” to persuade a reader to read past Chapter Two will be a hell of a challenge. Many people prefer the stories they read to mostly move in a linear manner. If your writing is good enough, you might be able to persuade them to keep reading a non-linear story. But, the “betting money” is that they will quickly abandon your work mostly unread. Of course, if your smut is “smutty enough,” they’ll read it for a wank-o-thon, and won’t give two shits about the plot or anything else. Just my two cents worth. Good luck.
  12. Hi, Deadman and all. A lot of great points were brought up in other answers. My answer would be a question: “Would the character speaking actually mention these people under the circumstances?” If yes, then the character mentions them. If no, then they don’t. If you mention them as the “third person narrator,” then if you mention them at all you should also suggest at least one plausible reason within the plot why the character won’t be showing up in the next story. “Teasing” characters that will be no-shows isn’t nice, and readers will be more upset the more “important” the character is within the storytelling universe as a whole. Good luck.
  13. I’m still somewhat stuck do to RL on the next chapter. I did make a small change to Chapter 6 to test a new computer and word processor. I’ve added the “mostly canon” origin for Chocolate Frogs. The name of the magical maker of Chocolate Frogs is pure fanon, courtesy of the late great Bobmin357, who goes by Bobmin356 on St. Elsewhere. His widow has left his stories up for readers new and old. The “Aussie Muggle” Freddo Bar was and is very real. The Australian MacRobertson Chocolate Company invented the Freddo Bar in 1930. Cadbury bought MacRobertson in 1967. They sold the Freddo Bar in the UK from 1973 to 1979, and from 1994 to the present. So, while even a non-abused Harry Potter wouldn’t have known what a Freddo Bar was before The Goblet of Fire, JKR certainly grew up with them. They would be the inspiration for the Wizarding World Chocolate Frogs.
  14. I managed to get a new iMac I didn’t want to buy yet a hop, skip, and jump before the old one died.  My “old” version of Office won’t install on the new one.  I’ve tried “Pages.”  I’m a lot less unimpressed than I was before trying it.

Microsoft is brutally awful with older versions of Word. Basically, they want you to buy a subscription to Office 365, so they make it incredibly difficult. I had to uninstall Office on my old computer, and still couldn’t reinstall it on my new computer. We don’t want to talk about how hard it is to actually buy a new copy of the standalone program.

I’m not an Apple user, so I can’t comment on Pages, but someone told me you can save Pages documents as Word documents, so that might be helpful if you really need the Word format.

But anyway, congrats on the new Mac!

Microsoft will still sell Office “outright” instead of the “crippleware that only works with an Internet connection,” for about $240, but you have to buy it straight from Microsoft, not the Apple App Store.

And, it isn’t the “Intel vs Apple Processor” issue, either.  The current Mac OSX, even the “A chip CPU” version, will run older “Intel era” OSX programs via an emulator.  However, the Office install program claims that I already have a “newer version of Office installed,” and I haven’t been able to find out anything about what exactly the Office installer says that it sees.  This computer was new out of the box, and I had not installed anything on it.

But, at least it “plays nice” with my iPhone.  And all, or at least most of the websites that were “broken” on the old iMac work just fine with this new one.  I’m tolerating the Bluetooth keyboard with no “forward delete,” and I bought a Logitech MX Anywhere 3S Bluetooth mouse to replace the POS mouse it came with, along with a USB hub and a DVD burner.

      Thanks.

I wound up buying Office as a digital download, and got the product key via email, which is the least secure method for purchasing software ever. The biggest issue was getting past the zillion “Are you really sure you don’t want Office 365 because it’s neat and you can save everything to the Cloud and everyone will think you’re completely awesome and we get RMR which is our dream scenario because we don’t have to do a damned thing to get your money every month” sales pitches.

Of course, the installer was suspicious about my older version of Office that had lived on my 10 year old Dell, despite my having uninstalled it. I was lucky enough to get someone in Tech Support who actually knew what they were talking about, rather than just reading from a canned script. It was a miracle...

  15. Well, I didn’t plan on writing a Hogwarts Mystery fanfiction when I started writing this, or even in end of 2023. I suppose plans do change. Judah Casimir Kowalski is “Jacob’s Sibling.” Jacob is Jacob Peregrine Kowalski. Judah and Jacob are two grandsons of Jacob Kowalski from JKR’s Fantastic Beasts/Grindelwald storyline, whose father Peregrine was magical and remained in the UK. All the “major” Hogwarts Mystery characters, and a few Magic Awakens characters besides, are putting in appearances, and in fact are becoming major characters here.
  16. Hello, all. The Chatbox has started working for some members. It allowed me to post one line of text before reverting to the above problem. Thanks in advance.
