  1. New chapter will be posted tomorrow
  2. Sorry for lack of info but just started my new class and I'm basically spending all my free time either studying or on duty. I'm stI'll writing tho! The wife and I are going out of town for part of the weekend but most of the next chapter is done and I hope to have it up by Monday or Tuesday
  3. Hey everyone just got my wife and stuff moved into our new house. Might be busy the next couple days but I will be working as much as I can
  4. Chapter 64 is up
  5. So...a little embarrassing but I went through the previous chapter and realized that a Reality Check at this point would be much of a retread. I mean, Jack’s interactions at school mirror my own (a trend for the beginning of his school years) and everything else is mostly from my brain. I didn’t want to waste your time by just reposting exactly what I had said before so...Yeah, just go ahead and reread previous Reality Checks to get an idea for where I’m coming from while writing. HOWEVER! Since I don’t want to leave you all in the lurch waiting for my next chapter to come out, I have decided to give you something a little bit extra. Since I love movies so much and I enjoy writing critiques and the like, I thought I might share my Top Ten Best and Worst Films of 2016. Personal opinion of course. I won’t give each a full review but I figure a little tag on each might suffice Honorable Mentions - Conjuring 2 - Swiss Army Man - Kubo and the Two Strings - Fences - Arrival Top Ten Best Films of 2016 Pete’s Dragon A heartfelt, tender retelling of a Disney classic with amazing performances and some of the most surprisingly subtle characterization I’ve seen in a film in quite some time. 9. Midnight Special A surprisingly tense and heartfelt thriller about the beginnings of fanaticism and the lengths parents will go to protect children who are ‘different’. 8. Zootopia A film about racism and class injustice for kids? That doesn’t insult their intelligence? Looks like Hollywood doesn't just think kids are morons anymore. 7. The Witch The best horror film of the year, one that relies purely on the tension of impending doom to create an atmosphere laden with dread and religious exhaustion. 6. Manchester By The Sea A surprisingly funny film about grief that realizes that nothing hits harder and more honestly about grief and recovery than finding the humor we use to steady ourselves. 5. Moonlight A remarkable feat of filmmaking that manages to track the life-course of a young man struggling with sexual identity and class restriction, filmed as though we are eavesdropping on a real life. 4. The Edge of Seventeen Not since Easy A have we seen John Hughes’ winning style used so effectively, nor have we seen quite so honest a film about teenagers since his heyday, not afraid to delve into the complex, darker areas of teenage life that many don’t acknowledge. 3. Silence Yet another masterpiece from Martin Scorsese, earning a place among the best religious films of all time and offering a sobering mediation about man’s search for God in the midst of doubt. 2. La La Land As fun and vibrant as the homage to the musical films of yore is, the most remarkable feat this film manages is compellingly going beyond the expected ending to show what happens after. 1. Everybody Wants Some!! Though not as perfect as Boyhood, Richard Linkater’s spiritual follow-up to Dazed and Confused acts as both a time-capsule and timeless celebration of youth, competition, and the bonds we don’t even try to make. Dishonorable Mentions - The Neon Demon - Zoolander 2 - Norm of the North - Fifty Shades of Black - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (purely for the disappointment factor) Top Ten Worst Films of 2016 Dirty Grandpa Did you want to watch Robert De Niro embarrass himself in a role that looks like they had to wave a paycheck at him off-screen to keep him on-screen? I thought not. 9. Warcraft Faithful to the source material though it may be, this film didn’t have the boredom of watching someone play the video game...it had the boredom of having someone read the instruction manual. 8. Independence Day Resurgence Nothing beats waiting twenty years to bring back half the actors who have half the interest for a story with half the excitement and half the effort. 7. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi Michael Bay yet again takes a compelling real life story and uses it as window-dressing for another loud, boring, spectacle-filled light show that has all the emotional sincerity of spoiled milk. 6. Gods of Egypt Because white-washing some of the most interesting mythos in history is a great way to disguise some of the most painfully awful CGI and direction you’ll ever have to suffer through. 5. God’s Not Dead 2 Yet another straw-man film that attempts to portray atheism as a no-holds-barred war on religion and argues that black-and-white is the only way to see the world. 4. Nina About as insulting as a biopic can get, full of terrible acting, lackluster direction, and a completely cowardly approach to one of the most influential and interesting African American singers. 3. Collateral Beauty An offensive, lazy, and shockingly inept film about grief that frames horrible deeds as the machinations of some ‘higher purpose’ and features top-notch actors giving career-worst work. 2. Hillary’s America: A Secret History of the Democratic Party Personal politics aside, it’s hard to argue with the factually-lazy, morally-bankrupt, evidence-free nature of this ‘documentary’, made by a criminal who legitimately believes he was imprisoned because he spoke ‘The Truth’. 1. I’m Not Ashamed Christian propaganda films, whatever your religious beliefs, have almost always been insulting. But making one about the Columbine massacre and using it to prop up your agenda? That’s a new kind of low. These are just my personal opinions! If you agree or not, that’s perfectly fine I should have the next chapter up in the next few days.
  6. Hey guys! So I’m sorry about the lack of updates but go ahead and just chalk that up to classes and stuff. I’ve also been busy getting a house for my wife and I near my school and that just went through Reality Check and update to be coming soon. Closing in on the end of the next chapter.
  7. Chapter 63 is up
  8. Next chapter will be up tomorrow after my graduation
  9. Hey everyone! Really sorry about the lack of updates but I’m just entering the last phase of my first school and I wanted to focus purely on studying and the story so I unfortunately did not have time for the Reality Check at my normal time. But now that I’ve passed my final exams and am just waiting to graduate, I find myself with a lot more time. So, here’s the Reality Check for the past couple chapters: - Just lump all of the school stuff with classes and the teachers together. That was basically my experience my Senior year of high school. - Jack’s lines about not wanting to go to his final year of school for any reason other than to get his diploma? I annoyed the Hell out of my friends with that line. - Jack’s neurosis about Brad and the advice he gets is basically an amalgamation of everything that was said to me in similar situations when people I didn’t want back in my life came back into my life. A lot of summation with the Reality Check, I know, but if I listed off each individual piece of real-world slice-of-life, this post would never end. Hope you're all doing well! I’m closing in on the end of the next chapter and hope to have it up by this weekend. I still don’t know exactly how many chapters will be in this Saga but I’ll keep you updated as I know see you guys soon!
  10. Chapter 62 is finally up. Sorry about the delay! Hope you all enjoy
  11. Next chapter will be up today
  12. I have a big test tomorrow but I’m almost done with the chapter so hopefully within the next couple days I am SO sorry about the wait
  13. A very Happy New Year to you all looking forward to another year with Jack and company, hopefully taking them places you don’t quite expect. New chapter soon!
  14. Hey guys! Just got back to school so I’ll be starting up writing again soon sorry this chapter may take a little longer but I’ll be working as fast as I can!
  15. A very merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all. Wherever you are and whatever you're doing, I hopeyou find joy this day with your fellow man.
  16. Hey everyone! I’m headed home today for the holidays. I'm gonna try to work on the next chapter as much as possible but it may be a little while before it’s posted. I apologize in advance but will do my best to keep up the pace.
  17. Chapter 61 is up Whew, so glad I was able to get it out! Hope you all enjoy!
  18. Chapter is almost done hope to have it up in the next day or so
  19. Hey guys! A while without an update and I apologize but school will be letting out for the holidays in a couple days and I will have much more free time. Don’t worry, I don’t intend to make this a constant excuse. No Reality Check this time because there’s nothing to really check. I mean, I’ve had buddies ‘kidnap’ me before, but the actual events as taken from my life are not present. I realize that this past saga has been pretty much nothing BUT that, but we’ll be getting back into it soon once Jack’s Senior year starts. I’m working hard and fast on Chapter 61 and hopefully it should get done soon. First chapter of the ‘Demons Saga’. Hope you’re all doing well and I will update soon!
  20. And there’s Chapter 60 posted time to get some studying done before I start on Chapter 61.
  21. Chapter 60 should be up tomorrow Not a huge chapter, not a majorly eventful chapter; more one that opens up Jack’s last year at high school.
  22. Hey guys! So I finally had a few moments to breathe at school here so I figured I’d give you all an update and Reality Check. Actually, the Reality Check is going to be extra simple...there isn’t one. Yeah, like I said before, this section is purely of my own creation. Some emotional similarities and reactions don’t count. If the event didn’t actually happen, it doesn’t go into the Reality Check. Well, that was easy Chapter 60 is actually fairly close to being done. I’m in the last section of it and I’m hoping to have a straight shot to the end. This will be the last chapter in the Travel Saga, by the way, so there’s gonna be a new one starting up soon. Hope you’re all doing well and the next time you hear from me should be with an exact date
  23. Sorry for the silence! Been busy the past couple days but I'll be posting the Reality Check and update later today
  24. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you all I know there are many things in my life that I am thankful for but one of the biggest is having a fan-base that has been so loyal and supportive over the last two years. A fanbase that never fails to encourage me to keep working, even when I’m struggling. A fan-base that was so patient that they were able to wait TWO MONTHS for an update when I’ve been pretty steady in my work output. It means the world to me, guys, and I’m thankful each and every day that you all stick with me. Hope you have a great day and look for my Reality Check and update within the next day
  25. Chapter 59 is up and posted! Whew! Good to be back writing and hopefully things will go smoother from here And I’ll try to post a ‘best stories from boot camp’ thing in the next day or so (can’t reveal too much, obviously). Right now, I just need to relax a little, then dive headlong into Chapter 60 Hope you enjoy reading!
