  1. Insomnia is so ANNOYING

There is a story titled "Insomnia" and the only thing annoying about it is that it's not finished!

really? haha when I have insomnia I get more work done...

  2. It sucks when no one likes your story. Feel like humming the "nobody likes me everybody hates me guess I'll go eat worms" song.

Is it just me or are some of the lyrics to that kiddy song disturbingly phallic?

I don't remember all the lyrics...

  3. My new home office is finally finished. New desk, plus new chair, everything looks bright and shiny.

  4. I hate it when you read a romance and then there's absolutely no sex whatsoever. It's like, what's the point? At least one time, right?

Not all romance has to involve sex. Some of the best ones I've read have none.

Lol no kagome it wasn't lethal, it was Underlying, and I think I would have been satisfied w/o sex but the ending really sucked. It left me wanting so much more, and it pissed me off! It's like, there was no resolution whatsoever. BW, innuendo is fine...Dany, I actually don't like romances much at all. Which is probably also why I didn't like the story! lol. I'll stick to what I know from now on - raw, violent, angsty action-filled fiction.

Argh I realized I said the word "like" way too many times - damnnit magicmau5!

  5. Further adventures of magicmau5: Today I climbed over barbed wire to get back to the public trail. Managed to not rip my clothes; I've done that b4 to my nice running pants. It takes skills to be a criminal!

  6. I think BW has nailed it on the head here. Every reader's point of view is unique, and thus the ratings mean very little, because the aggregation of a heterogeneous audience into a single statistic gives both readers and authors an incredibly vague amount of information. Each has a different conception of what they desire in a story, and thus their rating will reflect that. Add to this impression some members have given voice to - that AFF "cliques" influence the number of ratings. It makes for a confusing medley for all involved. At this point, if I want to read a story, I skim through the description and first chapter to see if there is: a) a preponderance of errors, and b) whether the central concept is novel. I have read too much slash to want to read literary clones.
  7. I'm pretty new to writing slash, but I generally use boxers because that's what my bfs have used. I've been told they're pretty comfortable. But it really depends on the clothing they wear - if it's skinny jeans, it's a thong; if it's loose jeans, it's boxers or briefs; and if they can't be bothered, they go commando. So I guess I have no hard and fast rule.
  8. I don't think you offended anyone. We were just giving personal opinions. I'm not going to go into details about why I disliked the two stories I mentioned, in order to avoid offending anyone. I think it's an interesting question about the 1000+ ratings, it's something I've been wondering about myself. So far I haven't found any AFF stories rated very highly that I like. But that is because the vast majority of what I read are published works (I mention a few authors I like on my profile). If I spent more time on AFF, I'm sure I would be able to answer your question more effectively. Sorry to disappoint you!
  9. It's really hard for me to have people IRL read and critique my writing. As a college student, it was so hard to see my professors critique research proposals, etc but ultimately, my writing improved after I edited my work accordingly. I'm a really sensitive person, but also very judgemental of my work, and I always strive for perfection. It's an unfortunate combination that I am constantly working to overcome. I didn't realize until the past year that I am also very judgemental of others, and now I have to be very careful about revealing my opinions to others. Often I have no idea I'm offending someone, and apologize before I say something just to be safe. My cousin is constantly telling me to use my "inside voice" - that is, keep quiet. It's hard but I'm getting better at it slowly. I really like AFF because I can get relatively anonymous feedback. That way, I don't take comments personally.
  10. I know I have seen some authors with 1000+ ratings. At first I read them, because Goodreads recommended them highly (which is also based on a popularity rating system), but then I stopped reading them because they didn't live up to the hype. Out of three M/M stories published online that Goodreads highly recommends, I found that only one left me desperate to finish the story, and to stay up late at night to reach the end of it. I think it is not found on AFF. The two I did not like as much are highly rated here on AFF. I am fearful of saying that I don't recommend them - the authors are good, and the writing quality is high, but I did not like the plot or characters. (The latter statements are in no way intended to offend fans or authors!) They are: The Carnalli Complex by Passhenette1 and The Last Pure Human by Twisted Hilarity (also available at twistedhilarity.com)
  11. Rogue do you know when the code rewrite will be finished? I'm not a fan of the ratings system, it doesn't give any reliable indication of a story's quality. I've checked out some highly rated stories that have bad grammar, presentation and punctuation, and I'm like, wtf? It doesn't help a reader if you rate a poor quality story highly.
  12. Hiked through private property and had to crawl under barbed wire to reach the public trail. My chi/minpin was looking at me like, "y u so slow?"

  13. I really appreciate this thread! I was a little worried about the small amount of reviews on one of my stories, but from what I've read here, it seems like a common phenomenon and I don't need to stress over it. I guess for me, the act of writing itself is more rewarding than any reviews I get. It's insanely exciting to see the vision in my head turn into a story that people actually read, whether they enjoy it or not.
  14. Just finished watching Bruno. I'll be having nightmares tonight of men in latex underwear.

  15. Body, y u no lose weight?

Of course, I did gain weight when I was going to the gym regularly myself, despite losing inches. Muscle weighs considerably more than fat and is denser. :)

Yeah my jeans fit better and I can lift heavier weight so it's probably the more muscle scenario.

  16. I'm gonna pop some tags, only got $20 in my pocket, I'm hunting, lookin for a come up, this is f**kin awesome...

  17. My therapist told me not to force myself to write constantly - she told me to take a break from writing for an entire week!!! So I won't be posting Chapter 27 until about March 17th. (yikes! what to do with all that free time?)

  20. I was told by mods to delete this from the IofI archive in Chapter 22: Watch a real squid listen to Cypress Hill! (It is considered to be advertising.)
  21. Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum hast du mich verlassen?

  22. Hiya lovelies, I'm in rather desperate need of help with my M/M sci-fi story, The Invasion of Ian. It's basically a soap opera set in space. It does have some rape/violent elements in it, but that is over and done with in the first few chapters. What I need now is just some feedback with grammar, and maybe some suggestions with plot. I'm also having trouble with the motivation side of it, because I'm not sure if it's worth continuing. I would like to finish it quickly, but the research portion of it seems to take just as much time as the writing, and I think it might be about 25 weeks before it's close to being finished. I don't need someone to devote a ton of attention to it, just a little feedback when you have some extra time on your hands. Thank you and happy writing/reading! xoxoxoxo, magicmau5
  23. Who would have thought an atheist would use the Bible to write science fiction?

  24. Going to watch the Oscars - not sure if it's worth it, since I've only seen two of the ones nominated!
