AquaTonic got a reaction from GeorgeGlass in How Did You Find Fanfiction?
I’m reviving an old topic but I’m enjoying reading how others found fanfiction. When I was in elementary school around 5th grade-ish, one of my teachers introduced us to looking at a picture and making up a story to go with it. I fell in love with doing that. My friend and I around that same time discovered anime so it evolved from looking at a picture and thinking of a story to watching a show and creating a story involving the characters we liked. My BFF and I would write stories together on notebook paper and then eventually found FFN, started reading stories, and writing/publishing our stories on there. It’s been a great creative outline and I will be forever grateful to that one teacher (whom I remember his name) for introducing me, without knowing it, to fanfiction and creative writing.

I’m a big numbers person and wouldn’t delete reviews even if they were flames because hey, at least they reviewed!
My first flame was on my first Sailor Moon/Dragonball Z crossover that I co-wrote with an old friend in 2002 when I was 14.
If I recall correctly, fans of my fic messaged the flamer endlessly until they apologized. Later on, they came back (probably 6 months later) and gave a constructive feedback review that outlined how I could improve, what was wrong, and areas that I needed to work on. I appreciate that this person did come back later and give me constructive feedback. It’s probably one of my most memorable flames and later constructive feedback reviews.

AquaTonic got a reaction from BronxWench in New? Introduce Yourself!
    Hello,
I'm not new-new but I've been lurking while slowly feeling out the forums and beginning to interact.
I'm AquaTonic on AFF, I joined when I initially started to venture into writing more mature content than was appropriate for FF.Net. I've been writing since I was about 12 or 13, starting with fan fiction and then progressed into wanting to write something of my own. Because I had a huge horde of fan fic ideas, I wanted to finish those but decided I can rearrange the plot to make it into an original fic instead. I have one fan fic left to finish and then I'm purely dedicated to my own original works.
It's nice to meet everyone and I hope to get to know you more as I start being more active on the forums!

I'll jump in on this and I like how BronxWench pointed out 'why are you angry' part.
It really burns my ass...when someone assumes I want unsolicited advice/help trying to lose weight and that it will 'improve my marriage'.
Why does this make me angry? I'm finally happy in my own skin after years of hating myself, my body/my choice/mind your business, it's a rude topic to bring up, ever, especially when first meeting someone, this topic triggers my past ED, and I have a great marriage but thanks for asking.

AquaTonic got a reaction from Kurahieiritr in what made you want to write in the first place?
I didn't start writing until 6th grade when one of my teachers pulled out pictures and as a project, we were to write something around that picture and describe it. I fell in love with doing that, discovered fan fiction on the internet, and my fate was sealed! My cousin and I had binders full of stories we'd create together. First our own, and read them to each other a chapter at a time, and then we started writing together.

AquaTonic got a reaction from Danyealle in Lack of reviews.
When it comes to reviews, I used to be hurt to hardly get any when I first started on out FF.Net (at about age 12 or 13). But then, as I grew and got older I started noticing how when I did get reviews, they would influence my writing. Instead of writing for me, I was writing to please my readers which would change the entire plot/tone of my story in a direction I didn't like. So I quit.
Years later, I've come back with a different perspective: I don't care about reviews. Sure, they're great to get or know that someone is enjoying your writing, but I'm not going to let reviews or the number I get put me in a down place. I use writing to getting away from the real world, as hobby, a way to express myself during difficult times. My feelings, thoughts and emotions comes out in my characters when I write since I've experienced what they have.
Now, I'm writing for me; not my readers, not my reviewers. You get what I give you. It may sound a little harsh but it's honest.
When I do get reviews, I favor those that aren't afraid to speak their mind and point out errors. I love criticism and tips for improvement. That's why when I review, I tend to be the same way by helping the author improve if they'd like.

AquaTonic got a reaction from sumeragichan in the chick fil a discussion
I believe that the Chik-fil-a issue has been blown out of proportion by not only the people, but also the media. All people are entitled to their opinion but it is up to the person receiving the message to understand if it is 'right' or 'wrong' due to their own moral codes. Gay Marriage is a huge issue across the board and multiple foundations that are against it (for example: Religious institutes, Urban Outfitters, Wal-Mart, Exxon Mobile, Salvation Army source ) have been boycotted against and havoc wrecked. It was now Chik-fil-a's turn to be in the hot seat.
Why? Because of his [Cathy's] opinion, to which he is entitled. Not everyone is all hunky-dorry about Gray Marriage, and should also have that right to state their opinion when asked. To me, it looks like a political mud slinging war except with humans rights (which we've had plenty recently, especially with other issues including birth control and abortion trying to be outlawed). I'm sure not many have heard of how much the LDS church was against gay marriage, or the THOUSANDS of dollars they donated against gay marriage for Prop8 in California. So what makes Chik-fil-a so different for the other organizations donated against gay marriage? Nothing.
I think the whole issue was handled like a child throwing a tantrum. They're against gay marriage, so what? That's their opinion and right to be against it. Not everyone believes the same thing, which is called diversity! Without diversity, we'd all be the same mindless clones. So, what is it people expect? All these ideas of wanting to be 'equal' yet being a hypocrite when someone expresses their rights. If you don't like it, then don't support it.
When I find out that a company or corporation is against something I find morally unethical, I stop supporting that company. I don't make a HUGE deal out of it, drag it through the media, or take pictures of myself protesting/eating at company.
The only issue I was a little irritated about was the lie about the Jim Henson Company by Chik-fil-a claiming the toys were recalled due to them being unsafe for children. Why not be truthful and state the Henson Company does not want to do business with Chik-fil-a due to their opinion?
On a business perspective, it was a bad move. I wouldn't have brought my personal opinion to light, but ironically it worked in their favor (their company got media attention, and sales rose due to the 'war' of protest/supporting the company).
But when it comes down to it, I think this media war was used to get people's minds focused on that instead of real issues at hand. There are other issues that people should be standing up against instead of over a company donating or opinion. What about current bills or executive orders being passed under our noses? Has anyone heard or read about the UN Gun Control Treaty? What about the health care issues? Or the woman's right issues going on in America right now? What about the next Presidential election?

AquaTonic reacted in Another President Thread
I think the biggest annoyanceof the US government for me (Being a US Citizen), is that they put too much importance on the president. If our country goes into a state of emergency the first person to be protected is him. Let me ask you this. Yeah so they get the president in the air and he is safe. What good does that do him if the country is wiped out by nukes or something? Then he has no one to lead and thus makes him useless anyways. As we learned with the JFK insident, we CAN survive for a few days without a president. That is why we have back up people. Just my opinion on that... Anyone else agree?

AquaTonic reacted to reriddle in Polygamy?
I believe that polygamy should be allowed but only with the consent of every person involved. Not the kind where a person has several different wives/husdands that know nothing about each other. Anthropolgically speaking polygamy has its uses and advantages. Both polygny and polyandry seem logically viable.
I think that polyandry, a women marrying numerous husbands would be the way to go. I am under the thinking that humans are not a monogomous people.
