Sexy stuff from the bible: The difference between lust and love: (What Raphael told Tobias) Since someone not of this world said this, and the strange notion of marriage probably not yet instituted at the time, I think this is rather weird. (Going to look up more stuff from that weird book...unless you want me to stop.) (God, I love some of these stories!) Raphael has to reassure Raguel, who is afriad for Tobias, since 7 previous men have died before the marriage could be consumated. Exciting stuff, huh? Oh there are tons more where this came from, I guess. One of the things that is starkly blatant is that people marry people. They aren't marrying angels. The fabric of society is slowly unravelling, and I can see it from where I am because I'm probably twice as old as anyone here, but as soon as the government gave permission for divorce, divorce sured happened alot. Well, though, thinking upon it more deeply, people divorced in the "olden" days too, and all they need to say in the Middle East is "I divorce you" three times, and that's that!. I'm sure there's lots of places in the bible that people can quote, but I think its important if people are going to bring up the "institution" of marriage. I mean, who can digest it all? In the end, Christ himself said (just kind of paraphrasing here) that divorce was allowed because people are so hard to teach. well, then I think that the idea of property should be looked at back then as well. Because the Lords owned the land. They defended it from invaders, the serfs owned nothing, so I guess I need an education here. Where did the church get this property? Did they just take it over? What does she mean, exactly? And does she think the church is not run by people? or by aliens? Or what? I don't get where she is coming from. The church may have been "bad" one time out of 12, but man for the 11 times she was good, no one appreciates it. I just ticks me off.

It can't go to the church unless it was willed to the church. You've been fed a load of crap. Infact I think someone's been making you wanna hate the church, since in the past couple of times you've brought it up, your vociferous voice has rankled me. The Church gets a tax break, so the property doesn't go to the government, so then the people who actually spend their tithe on the church for (not property) but to FEED the HUNGRY and CLOTHE the POOR, which some churches ACTUALLY STILL DO, I'd shut up about it if I were you. You're pissin me off, so grab a brain before you realize I'm Catholic and I'm resenting your words *hand hovers over gun in holster*

I said "yes" since I started studying it long ago in the before time. For me, it had no negative connotations, since in the city where I grew up, differences were celebrated, and I thought that's the way it is everywhere. However, casting my naivete aside, I found within my own family, because of the problems with language when they first immigrated, they were discriminated against by WASPs. Pretty much embracing the British culture helped ease the transition, although alot of people who settled in the area where I grew up (Scots mainly) also were discriminated against by the English. (The sheep farmer thing). My dad would tell the story, however, of the time when they had moved to Detroit, and because my dad had red hair (he was 5 at the time, just starting school), he was the center of unwanted attention from those of African descent. He got pretty good at throwing rocks in defense, and they learned to insult him from a distance. Even though we were European, I found that my Great-Grandfather had basically been a slave. He was Ukrainian, but had to take on his Polish over-lord's name and religion for the favor of eaking out a living on the diminishing parcels of land. (Yeah, you're thinking, Ukrainian Catholic or Roman Catholic, what's the difference? It's still Catholic! Well, there's a shitload of difference apparently, but well, that wasn't my war) I notice in the town where I live now, the East Indian women that I meet are super obsessed with "lighter" skin. I find this obsession baffling. Who cares? They're absolutely beautiful as far as I'm concerned. I'm amazed they make this an issue. Maybe because blonde and blue-eyed is rare and held in esteem? Although I've seen Plenty of ugly blonde haired-blue-eyed people around here, and I can tell you, there ain't nothin about them to write home about. Because of my heritage, I have features that others have mistaken as native American. I play it for as long as I can. I really enjoy the uncertainty on other people's faces, even those of Native American descent. I always get a double look from them. People wonder. They are curious about who you are and where you're from. I don't know why this is a way of forming an opinion of you, or what, or maybe just a thing like: "hey, the weather's fine now" or "How 'bout them Canucks?" For a long time, there were no "go faster" machines. Venturing into an unknown land where your language wasn't known was a life-threatening accomplishment...if indeed it was accomplished. Perhaps "they were never heard from again" was the ending to many many stories of exploration. Now we don't have that fear or that spirit of adventure, so we make them up. (Oh yes, you fine young cannibal) EDIT: It seems a pity you distinguish between the English/German heritage of your mom (I'm guessing you are closer to her than you are to your dad), but did not say what part of Africa your African ancestors are from. At the moment, we are in the process of hiring an Electrical Engineer (young quiet fellow) who hails from North Africa. It would be neat to know what part of Africa your dad is descended from, although I guess so many generations have gone by it would be difficult to track.

I find that highly inappropriate, Miss Granger.

Yeah, my husband's life was no bowl of cherries, and he's tougher on the kids than I am. I allow way more freedoms to them than he would. My theory is, if they've got it, they won't want it. It works sometimes. (I'm not talking about when they were in elementary school, but around 13 -15, when they challenge you the most) He's more into crushing the spirit and laying down the law. (Not that I think he's wrong, since I understand where he is coming from when he does that) One of our business associates raised her kids like this: "I'm not here to judge you, I'm here to be your guide. If you want the good things in life, the atv's, the motorcycle, the nice home, you've got to work for them. If you party, you won't get those things." When her son came home at 2am when he was supposed to be back by midnight, all she told him was: "You're pushin it." In the morning he explained that he had had a difficult time getting a ride back. She never grounded her kids or punished them. She never had to.

and she's the reason there are warning labels! (not that little kids can read them tho!) I can see it now: "Warning, this nickel is NOT a candy. Do NOT EAT!"

(aside from Sailor Moon, Inuyasha and Naruto) I noticed you've already mentioned Ruroni Kenshin Samurai Deeper Kyo and Fruits Basket The Vision of Escaflowne (old) Samurai 7 Gokusen Samurai Champloo (a little weird) Hikaru No Go Cowboy Bebop (silly title, good story) Scrapped Princess (same as above) Mai Hime Mai Otome (same characters diff storyline as Mai Hime. Mai Hime is better) Bleach (okay to a point) I couldn't get into Hellsing or Trigun, sorry guys. I tried.

nikolatesla1 I won't say anything about anyone's belief system or their opinions of things or what have you, since I've seen so many varied opinions out there on the subject. I've seen things that would give me pause before opening my mouth, since, well, quite frankly, they would probably think I'm insane. But I heard that too, about the HP books, that the Pope condemned them or said something negative about them, so that's probably about the time anyone would have been vocal about it. Well, let him believe so, if he believes it, I've read one or two, but my feet are solidly on the ground. The church has traditionally been against anything secular, and I would venture to guess that anyone who tries to live a holy life would probably stay away from anything like that. But, I mean, that's their job, right? What do you think? Even the Buddists say that whatever goes into your body becomes a part of you, so be careful what you put into your body. I would think that this rule would apply to books, movies, indecent conversations and anything else suspect. Maybe I'm too far off base here, considering the sort of forum this is.
-
yes, yes, that would have been my second guess: scarred, then insane. No normal people here.

The base for Chanel No. 5 is beagle piss. The base for most perfumes is civet, which belongs to the cat family. If you are allergic to such things to begin with, then, well, one wonders what sort of chemicals are put in what.
-
yeah, that'd be suspect in my books.

Another thing I just thought of, in alot of Anime, the endings are kind of tragic, not what you expect. If you've been spoon-fed American "good-guys always win" in the end, you may not like alot of anime.
-
I used to hate anime for the same reasons, but then watched "The Vision of Escaflowne" (not the movie, the series) and I kind of got hooked. One thing you will notice about anything Japanese, they very often put in really big characters, like they are imitating "Godzilla". "TVoE" has those, and it was really the first time I actually didn't mind them. Another thing that turned me onto anime is NHMK where they put music to it. There are one or two gems there that make you want to watch the show. Some Names to certain anime actually turned me off. Until I watched them, then they were okay. "Cowboy Bebop" being one of them. "Scrapped Princess" being another. They could have been called something better to do justice to their awesomeness. Another thing is that "Americanized" anime is not the same as "subbed" originals. For instance, "One Piece" has way more blood and gore in it than the version you see on TV. And much more angsty. Another factor to anime is the "Manga" or comics, which is usually written way before the animated series comes out. There are a couple of exceptions, one of them being "Full Metal Alchemist" (I almost didn't watch this one either due to the lame title, now I can't imagine it without it.) The anime actually overshot the Manga, and the Manga has a totally different ending to it, and apparently, missing several characters as well. (Not personal exp, just something someone recently told me) One series you've GOT to watch, although the plot kind of wanders at one point, is "Hikaru No Go". You'll be surprised by this one. It has a really good plot, and you don't even have to know what "Go" is about. EDIT: Naruto is good up to the end of the big fight between Sasuke and Naruto. After that really, its fillers and EVeryone and their Dog is waiting for the fillers to end...

Superman, the Ultimate Virgin! Watch out, Bruce Wayne!

I was surprised by the "..." on spell checker. If you use two dots or four, it revises it automatically to three. I didn't care if any "..."s were illegal, I'd put them in anyway, but I wasn't quite sure until the first time it was corrected. Another thing I was surprised at was beginning a sentence with "And", which was a no-no when I went to school. The first time I started a sentence with "And", spell checker capitalized it and it seemed okay. Now whenever I start a sentence with "And", I kind of feel like the Rebel Without A Cause.

phew, that's a relief. I guess I can take off the sackcloth and ashes now. What happened to me actually did, with an author who was better than me, on the same day, nearly at the same time, we both posted a romance chapter that involved couch sex. When I read her version, I had a creeping feeling go down my spine. It wasn't word for word, but it was so insync with mine, and we had so obviously Not known what the other was writing until the post that it was creepy. Even though I posted first, I felt like redoing the chapter, but I let it stand. I think that there are some people that you connect with, whether you like that person or not. Kind of like the Harem. If there are a bunch of women together, their mentrual cycles start to co-incide. I'm not saying that this is what is happening to you, but it may be a factor, esp when the posts are on the same day. I think women are more..sympathetic? (Not sure if that's the word I want) toward underlying currents of human commonality. (God, that word reminded me of Mortal Kombat Annihilation, when that native guy is telling Lui Kang to "find your animality" What a ludicrous word!)

Fuck that idea! He's the Man of Steel! I don't wanna read that fic! (What did Batman use? Kryptonite, damn, its always the Kryptonite, isn't it?)
