Neat. I suggest taking this quiz because it is absolutely wonderful and quite accurate. Also, this Google doc is a copy I took from the DSM-V and I italicised all that fits me or fit me at some point when I was younger because symptoms can change over time. Looking at that, you’d think I have no ability to pass as neurotypical, and yet people are always so surprised when I let them know.

Ah,  I’m not one for functioning labels, personally. This Tumblr post explains it better than I’m currently able to.

My Youngerspawn is on the spectrum, fairly high functioning but with a speech delay, social delay and a profound love of quadratic equations. And trains

My brother has aspergers, I’ve just got the sensory sensitivies , and the eye contact thing, (And I’ve been called a robot lol) but haven’t been tested so my membership is debatable. It’s possible my symptoms are learned from being so close to him in my formative years. Apparently I’ve thought about this a lot. Maybe too much. Either way, I’m 100% an ally, and I’m thrilled that this is such a positive thing for you.

*happy screeching* Thank you so much! This is the best welcome back I’ve gotten since I started coming on AFF again! Since you said “Welcome to the spectrum!”, may I ask if you are also autistic?

Welcome to the spectrum! It’s awesome to have answers and a new perspective to understand yourself. Plus a supportive community! I’m happy for you

BronxWench got a reaction from Arian-Sinclair in I love writing tips. Like I LOVE them. I can spend hours on google searching for spec
I’m with @Desiderius Price on this. Most of the writing tips offered via Twitter, or blog, or random Tumblr page are rehashed from a few less than researched sources. The only purpose they serve is to discourage and disillusion writers, and to frustrate us, especially when the advice contradicts itself, usually within the same freaking paragraph.
So, here’s my advice: Find your voice, and write in it. The technical shit can be found by consulting the Chicago Manual of Style, or another serious guide used by editors who actually get paid to do just that. No editor worth their salt edits via blog, and a good editor finds your voice and works like the hells to preserve that. Imagine my delight when my current editor preemptively rejected a change by the proofreader because my MC “didn’t speak like that.” I adore how she got into my voice so well, and it’s made working with her a complete treat for me.

I  completely agree, but I still love writing tips. I’m talking about the ones that talk about techniques and styles and offer alternative ways of doing things. Not the ones that present a list of rules. I’m a learner for life. I love to be constantly learning, and some writing advice things are great for that. Buuuut not on twitter lol.

Go with your gut and make it sound natural to you.  That’s my writing advice.

@DemonGoddess  IMO, a vacation is a vacation.   Too bad about the accident involving the phone and a sledgehammer….  Or, dismiss the call as a scam.

I heard kilts and my first thought was “Bronx must be involved in this somehow.”

‘Twas I who started with the kilts, and the ever-lovely Pittwitch encouraged me. Now, in my defense, I come from a long line of kilt-wearing males…

LOL, it’s an old joke between us… I can’t remember exactly who started it, whether it was Bronx or Pittwitch, but it came up somewhere, a long time ago that there is a shared admiration for both, men in kilts and sexy firemen, so when we want to be extra happy we put kilts on the firemen  and since DG has to battle her Lawnzilla regularly, I figured kilted firefighters with lawnmowers would be just the ticket

I do not understand why the firefighters are kilted, but I damn well approve.
I hope you get to do fun shit too, DG!
