Warhammer Elves!!

But amusingly enough I was thinking of doing something with Elves for my Christmas story.

I made the turkey run last night—I like a fresh bird, and I always pick up my bird at Stew Leonard’s. The staff there is incredibly helpful, and not a self-scan in sight. It’s so much a part of my holiday tradition that I’m not sure I could do Thanksgiving without Stew’s and those turkeys.
At my local market, I know most of the cashiers. We talk to each other about our kids, our lives, our vacation plans. I always mutter about using one of the grocery delivery services in our area, but I’d miss chatting with everyone at the store.

I try to be nice to the cashiers, and I try avoiding those self-scans.  (However, the local %*!mart is trying to make it unavoidable, leaving one cashier available when it’s installed self-scan in lieu of *most* of the old regular lanes.)
Yeah, I’ll be making a stop tonight, though to a more local shop, get one or two things I know I’m out of.

I don’t like the self scans either. From the selfish point of view there’s always something goes wrong, and from the unselfish I’d rather cashiers had the jobs.

@InvidiaRed there are so many options when it comes to Elves and Dwarves and all that jazz. I am a big fan of a couple different takes on elves, though I prefer the dragon age and elder scrolls universes versions to the tolkien. And it’s always exciting to craft your own version, write your own rules. 
I’m pumped to give it another shot. Soon as I get the right spark of inspiration.

This is a short story I wound up publishing with NineStar Press, but I think it would be fun to do a quick peek at the characters again. I did like them.

I started a side story, semi holiday one as I got a crack idea of Yoda in a Santa cap and grinning at Dooku
 

Hooray to 30k, and if you only put up 500 words today, that’s fine. Really!

Oh, I still think it’s utter garbage. I might save two or three bits, but at least it got things flowing a bit.
 

Thank you! I was hugely motivated, with a great deal on my plate for the next week. Between the new job, my mother’s doctors, and transition paperwork for my son, I’ll barely breathe this week until Thursday, and then I get to cook the feast…

I happen to work in a mall. It has been earlier and earlier. (also Christmas music has been playing since the day before Halloween) Black Friday generally is seen as doomsday. No one is happy that day.
I’ll be getting off after midnight.

On memorial day, the local Taco Bell was staffed with three people at lunch hour. One was taking orders at the counter, one was taking orders at the drive-thru, and one was prepping the food. They were apologetic to the customers. With one person making food and new people showing up every 5 minutes, they were very overwhelmed. Just close the fucking restaurant if that his how it is going to be. I hate American culture where everything is supposed to be available at all times, which requires some form of abuse that we refuse to acknowledge (still haven’t fully accepted the abolishment of slavery after 150 years, I guess). Anyway, you’d think with all the technology and “wealth” this country has access to, we’d figure out ways to not screw each other over, but instead those things are used to screw each other over under more obscure, institutionalized pretexts about rights and privileges.

I was never fond of shopping on Black Friday to begin with, since it’s such a frenetic rush and full of people who try very hard not to live up to that label of homo sapiens. When stores started opening on Thanksgiving Day, I decided I was boycotting stores all through the holiday weekend. It’s refreshingly serene, actually.

Well, that sucks…

This is because I got up early and grabbed the communal brain cell first. You can have it back now—I need to go to a trade show, and one doesn’t need cognitive skills for that. Just caffeine, and an ability to grab the good bling.
