Need Help Writing Slash

Recommended Posts

My story is called Why Must I Suffer. It's set in a sort of futureistic time in the rebuilt city of Sailen. The main character is Jaiden, a USER who hunts and kills DarkSades. It's in originals/ paranormal M/M.

I have trouble writing decent lemons, as I've never really don it before. I was told before on another site to draw from stories around me, but I'm not sure if it's stealing or not.

Help of any sort will be GREATLY appreciated!! ^_^

You can either give me some advice, help me write a lemon, or wtevr. Thanks much! :P

You might find it easier if you've had sexual experience yourself. Failing that, patch together experience of masturbation plus any physical activity you are, in fact, familiar with - and none of us live in a bubble, we've all touched other people and know what another's skin feels like, for instance.

I have to make a bit of a leap of faith in my own stories because I'm female and am writing about male desire and gratification, but having lived with a man for 7 years I've got quite a lot of experience in that area, albeit second-hand. I'm not entirely convinced I depict orgasms quite right, though!

It's good to ask questions, I think, so if you find you're unsure about some aspect of sex, then ask. Asking others how they experience orgasm is a good example, since I've mentioned it. It strikes me that quite a few men describe a female orgasm as a 'tingle'. But personally, I wouldn't say that I experience it like that at all. Get others to share their experiences and you'll get 1. a broad variety of descriptions that are based in fact. Maybe I don't get a tingle but one of my sisters here might, and another might feel it differently to either of us, and 2. you'll get direct, written material that you can take from. Real experience can't be copyrighted.

Past that, building on the character's actual personality seems to help, too. You get quite a few clues on how to proceed with lemons that way, I find.

Leading neatly on from that, I also find it helps to write 'imperfect' sex scenes. Sex in real life is not flawless, we fumble around each other a bit, come too soon, try and put on a condom and accidentally flick it in our lover's eye, that kind of thing. I like to incorporate bits of imperfection like this because to me, it makes the sex feel more authentic, provides more possibility for variation in the scenes I do write, and prevents me from trying to keep outdoing myself (and therefore appearing to keep my material fresh) by writing more and more extreme stuff each time.

I also think there's no harm in writing scenes where one partner is clumsy or has a flaw of some kind (not being very fit, perhaps) to prevent people from reading it and feeling inadequate. We all have some inadequacy or other, so why not our characters, too? Some people say that they watch porn and feel inadequate because the blokes all have rippling muscles and cocks the size of baseball bats and the women are all skinny, pretty and hyper-orgasmic. Real sex isn't like this but it's good enough that many of us still enjoy it. I mean, look at me. I'm a pain in the backside to have sex with because I'm shit at having orgasms in company. I still bloody love it, though.

All of this together means that, occasionally, my characters will have fantastic sex and it works better (at least, it has as far as I can see. Reviews will hopefully point out if that isn't the case!) because they genuinely seem to click, sexually.

Hope that helps!

Simply and easily, write what turns you on and what you visualize as being 'hot'. That's what I do.

Start by visualizing what you want to write about then add the details. The smells, whether it's hot or cold, the time of day, shadows if there are any, where it takes place, describe what's around the scene, talk about where the placement of the hands are, what the mouths are doing, what the naughty bits are doing, how the arousal feels, what they are saying, what each being smells like, are they sweating, what they are saying to each other, where what is going, what mouths are doing, what eyes look like, etc. Think details. Paint the picture in your mind then let your fingers walk across the keyboard and describe them.

Beyond that, there is something that does help... providing you don't have to look at the keyboard when you type, shut your eyes and don't look at the screen. Just let your fingers do what they do and follow what your brain is showing you. Don't worry about spelling or grammar mistakes, just let them go. You can always go back and fix them later.

Another hint is just block it out basically as to what you want to include then take that rough outline and flesh it out when you write. Use that as a visual aid in doing what you want.

Hope that helps you a bit.

I'm not good at writing sex scenes either and on this site your story generally needs to have plenty of it or will go unnoticed. I'm also a woman and in terms of gay sex, I knew nothing about it. So I got inspiration from published gay stories and the like.

Sometimes when I'm writing a story, I find myself doing just that; writing the actual character interaction and the action sequences and leaving the area that requires a sex scene blank. As I get more inspiration from brainstorming then I go back and write the sex scene. Yes, I brainstorm for sex scenes, hehe.

I would say it also depends on the mood I'm in. At times I can write them at the drop of a hat, and other times I'll sit there and stare at the screen. I call that 'sex block' when it happens, a little variation of writers block. But since I'm not really experiencing writers block, I simply continue the story then get back to the problematic sex scene later.

See, I'm not one of those types of writers that wait until they get a single chapter done then upload. I write several chapters before my first one even gets uploaded. Right now with my latest story, I have about 11 chapters done and only 6 are uploaded. My readers seem to appreciate this method because it makes for quicker updates. And the upside to this is that I can wait to write a sex scene when I have the ideas for it.

Not really sure if this will help you or not, but if you have the rest of your story visualized, keep writing it then get back to the harder parts.

When I first set out writing slash, I was given an excellent piece of advice by another writer, which I'm sure she wouldn't mind me passing on; I was simply;

Get naked!

She didn't mean literally of course, but figuratively. Don't be embarrassed to write anything, don't feel that you shouldn't use certain words of let your characters do certain things because you feel somebody might read and disapprove...who cares, it's your story and you can write what you want! I'm not saying you should write utterly unrepentant smut, because that gets boring, but never shy away from writing what you want and never be embarrassed or shy to take your characters where you want to.

For the actual physiological aspects, I can really recommend this site; http://www.squidge.org/~minotaur/classic/eroc.html

It's a classic. Written by a gay man who got into slash fiction, it offers a lot of sound, simple info for women writing about men having sex. An invaluable resource.

Finally, get a decent theosarus, or at least bookmark an online one. Some sex scenes end up as the same thing over and over, but if you use words well you can really make each one stand apart.

I hope that all this is helpful to you. Good luck with your story :)

I agree with what these people before me have written. And if you switch up methods, it works, too.

AND, personal experience here, but when the person you're with keeps stopping you from having release (whether it's by cutting off circulation and sparking a dry release that's unsatisfying or by pulling back just before you fall over the edge) it IS torture. Pleasant sexual torture, but torture nonetheless.

And sometimes one person will push the other through multiple orgasms before taking their own. (Note: this is more difficult for men to do than women, as men take longer to recover than women)
