Abandoned stories are and will be the property of the author and cannot be taken over/adopted with out their written permission, otherwise it is plagiarism.

*Looks around, doesn't see any of her many from the shoutbox, so comes clean*
From the TwiFic, I fixed it, but still amuzing: "Sliding his hands up the columns of Edward’s legs, Jacob rolled the soft orbs along his fingers, marbling at the difference between the hardness in his mouth and the clay like feel."

To some extend it comes from the fact that our name is 'Adult Fan Fiction' but I think Bronx said it best. Some of my favorite stories on here have no sex or it's just hinted at. That's not to say that we don't have a ton of smut (cause well we do) but there is no restriction that stories HAVE to have smut

Actually, the email that we provided is valid as that is the email address from which we received her rather whiney email about being disciplined for violating our ToS, so if you aren't getting a response then she is probably off sulking. If you are getting a error, then she must have deleted it and we have no further contact information for her.
As the owner, I can emphatically state that while I understand that many users would like her to return, we will not be contacting her to ask, even on behalf of users, to return. She violated our ToS with complete disregard for the possible legal consequences I could face by being on the site underage - While it may seem prideful, I refuse to send that type of email to someone who apparently couldn't care less if I paid huge legal fees, ended up with a criminal record, or even in jail.

There seems to be a common misconception that we do this to be mean, that we are just horrible nasty people who get off deleting stuff from the site. I assure you, this isn't the case. Let me step this out further.
Did you know that if a parent of an underage user filed a lawsuit, first off, I own the site as an individual not a corporation so I'm personally liable, they will come after me? I'm not rich. I live paycheck to paycheck. I cannot afford that kind of lawsuit. The site never has more than about $700-800 in our account at any one time. That won't pay for a lawyer. Second off, because it deals with sexual content and a minor that depending on the type of suit filed, I could end up with a criminal record and being listed on a sex offenders registry? That can effectively ruin my chances for a decent paying job for the rest of my life, never mind negatively impact my fiances career as he is military.
I take these risks because I believe in the site and what it provides - The only thing I ask in return is that people follow the very simple rules we have. The only time we enjoy deleting something is when someone plagiarizes someone elses work because well, that's truly vile! Beyond that, it's never fun to have to delete someone's story.
If they don't back their stories up and we delete for a ToS violation - That isn't our responsibility. I know it's been drilled into my head time and time again to always have a back up of important things - If their story wasn't important enough to them to back it up, I cannot and will not take responsibility for that decision.

Hey everyone! I should apologize - We didn't put news up last month and I'm a day late this month. Here's the thing though: Nothing's going on! The site is chugging along and there is no huge news that it's important to share. That being said, as my life is getting busier (Holidays, fiancee coming home, wedding, cross country move, school, etc) and the site is settling into nice steady groove, we've made a decision to only post the news when necessary. I'm shooting for a quick update every 3-4 months, but if there's not something going on, I won't take up your time or mine!
As things come up we will make sure to keep you up to date and we will ensure that the donations page and moderation status is kept current.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know!

We light a bonfire for the neighborhood ... hot dogs, s'mores, roasted apples, drinks of the adult type and child type. The kids stop and get warm, eat, and move on. It has become quite a tradition. The neighbors are already sending messages about who is bringing what!

Them and their damn custom crap!
    My two cents:
    1) If you are an author, you have to use them to post a story. So if you can use them to post a story that you (I assume) want other people to review, then don't use the reCAPTCHA as an excuse as to why you don't leave a review.
    2) Yes, they are annoying. Yes, they suck. Yes, I hate it too. But I don't have anywhere near the number of staff needed to sweep the archive daily instead of weekly for spam etc and remove it, so it stays. As Rogue pointed out, refresh is always an option (Cause sometimes it takes a couple to find a decent one) or just C&P the review.
Bottom line - the one we have is the best free option out there that has an audio option for our visually impaired users and doesn't require flash/java to use. If people want to pony up the several hundred dollars needed to get the best paid option that is a comparable in terms of stopping the spambots and has those features, please, let me know and we'll see what we can find!

It will all stay the same - When I refer to incorporating the site, it is purely for the legal protection it will provide. Would I love to make a living off AFF? Of course! Who wouldn't? But is it likely? Not really. The site doesn't generate enough income for that and I don't see it doing so without major shifts in advertising that I would never take

Oh my… It’s been a long week! Getting back into the swing of things after returning from Dragon*Con has been hard. It’s always fun being among what I affectionately term ‘my people’ and hard to come back to everyday life, but earning a living is a necessary evil so now that I’m back and settled in – September’s news!

Apollo goes to Dragon*Con (And comes back...)

Archive Clean Up & Moderation Status

So speaking of Dragon*Con – What a wonderful three days! Where to start? First and foremost, I had a great time representing the site in a couple different ways. I got to meet up with one of our advertisers again, Kiernan Kelly. She’s a blast to talk with and one of our advertising programs biggest fans. I have to give her a huge shout out for mentioning us at panel after panel and handing out tons of advertising cards!
Like many of you I’m sure, I’ve always been wary of associating my real name with the site so last year was a huge step forward and this year made me realize why I do it. At one LGBT writers panel when Kiernan introduced me as the owner of AdultFanFiction.Net, there was a round of applause – To say I was stunned is an understatement. I got to speak with some awesome people and speak at a marketing panel to offer our services to those there. I’ve got a few people that are seriously considering campaigns with us, so look for new banners in the coming months!
My next shock came Saturday evening. Normally Kiltblowing is Friday and Saturday so I miss this panel, but I had the chance to attend Whedonverse’s adult fan fiction panel. One of the first questions was of course “What is the weirdest pairing you’ve ever seen?” Since Rule 34 is alive and well, you know if it’s strange, we have it here. So I stood up to answer the question and when I introduced myself as the owner, I was invited to join the panel up front to an even larger round of applause than the night before!
The other ladies and I had a blast talking with the crowd about crazy fandoms, kinks, stories and other such nonsense! Someone even wanted a picture with me cause I’m Apollo – Talk about an OMG kinda moment!
I also learned something that night that I had long suspected, but warmed my heart to hear. The users there loved the fact that we are strict on our tagging policy and that we are active in moderating the site. They know that we respond and they appreciate that fact! Every so often we get positive emails and thanks, but to hear it verbally and face to face really means the world to me and makes it easier to do what we do.
The other good thing that came from Dragon*Con was being able to sit down with an industry lawyer. I learned a good bit about DCMA and how it applies to the site, so please keep an eye out for updates to our ToS in the next week or so. He gave me some great tips and ideas about how to keep the site safe while we gather the money to turn this into a business and not just a hobby site. We reviewed the basics of how we run the site and he confirmed that we are taking the necessary steps to protect ourselves legally, with the exception of the DCMA stuff, but that will be rectified soon!
Right now as it stands, I am personally liable for the site. If the site gets sued, I get sued. Every day I take on the responsibility for our content and our users. This is something I’m glad to do as I feel that we provide an outlet for you, our readers and our authors, but because of that, there are things that I must do as well to keep my liability to a minimum.
One of these steps is actively hunting for minors on site. As I’ve harped about in past news posts – If you aren’t 18, you should not be here. It puts me in danger legally. We had a period of time where past moderators didn’t do that and now we have to go back through old memberships on top of the new to find people who registered while under age. This is not optional.
If you registered before you were 18 years old, any pre-18 content will be deleted. If there is nothing associated with the account, it is simply removed. If you are still under 18, then everything goes. As I said, this is not optional. This is to cover me in case some angry parent finds their child on the site and decides they want to go after me for all that I’m not worth.
We don’t like doing it, honestly we don’t, but we have to. I cannot stress this enough. Please don’t be upset with us when we remove your content or content that you enjoy reading because someone couldn’t follow a simple rule. I’d rather deal with your anger than having to sit before a judge.
In more routine news, we are currently sitting on war chest of $563.88 with September’s bills paid. Hopefully we will see a return on our investment in Dragon*Con in the coming months as we finish paying our coder and will be able to afford a lawyer that will help us turn this into a business to provide that extra layer of protection for myself and my staff. If you’d like to contribute to either the site’s monthly operation or our legal fund, please see our Donation page for more information. If you’d like to donate specifically to helping the site incorporate, please note that in your donation!
Beyond that, moderation continues slow and steady. See what’s been done here!
    Happy Reading & Writing!

JayDee, while sarcastic, is quite correct. Also, please note that she is one of the Authors on the site, a long standing member, not a admin or moderator. As a user, so long as she remains polite, she is welcome to voice whatever opinions she pleases same as you are.
Please understand that we've been dealing with the issue for many years and every time we've taken any sort of action she's posted something similar to what she currently has up on whatever site or social media she's work with at the time and we've said nothing in regards to whatever version she's taken to telling.
When the time came that we decided to remove her, I knew that we would most likely have some very upset readers as she has a large following and I also knew based on past behavior that she would likely blame the staff and degrade the site. As owner, I made the decision that any inquires into the status of her fiction would be answered with the above statement and only that statement prior to even removing the account. It is concise, truthful and in reality professional. I made the choice to include the exact dates and reasons to avoid a long drawn out thread of "I can't believe you deleted her - You guys are mean nasty horrible people for enforcing the Terms of Service a user agreed to!" We've had that before with other users and quite frankly, this was an easy way to cut it off at the pass. (Please note that it did work quite well for the better part of two months)
I did not at any point denigrate her or her writing and nothing was an attack, personal or otherwise. Believe me, if I truly felt it was necessary to stoop to the level she has on her various social media sites, I could. There is more to the story than what is posted above, but beyond a factual stating as to the history and why, that is not something users need to be concerned about.
It's quite frankly no more or no less than a reference I would give if I had a person call for a job reference or one for a lease: Just the facts Jack. I've held to a strict level of honesty and transparency with my members and will not deviate from that.
As this is obviously not going to resolve anything or change your mind, I locked the thread. I respectfully ask that as I have responded to this and there is really nothing new that could be said on either side that you not start this up anywhere else on the forum. Thank you.

Well, life has been life and another month has passed! It’s been a busy one for me personally between still welcoming larger than normal amounts of new members, family medical issues and work, but hopefully the rest of the summer goes smoothly!

Archive Clean Up & Moderation Status

24 days! There are 24 days to Dragon*Con 2012! I’m excited as all get out! This will be my 3rd year going and 2nd actively promoting the site. Last year I had the pleasure of meeting a handful of our advertisers and adding a few to our line up and hope to expand on that further this year!
Now, I know I’m elusive for an owner of a site as large as this, but like many of you I also have a personal life and family that wouldn’t approve, BUT if you are going to D*C this year, once again a unique opportunity presents itself! If you’ve ever been good at ‘Where’s Waldo’ and think you can find me in a crowd of 40,000+ people, I’ll be there. My handle will be on my badge and there are a few places I’m sure to be found: Kiltblowing – Expect I’ll be the one catcalling somewhere from the front! Some of the writing panels, a couple Star Trek and I love to sit on the Hyatt’s deck to smoke. I’ll also be posting hints and clues throughout my weekend there on AFF’s Facebook/twitter account as well, so good luck!
So this last month has been exciting for me personally and will hopefully bring a positive exposure to the site. PBS posted a video up on
talking about fan fiction and how it has been around through the ages – Granted there are comparisons between Sherlock Holmes fan fiction after Holmes was killed off to ’50 Shades,’ but it was a positive spin which is always good! AFF was also contacted by two different media outlets for information on upcoming articles that again, should help promote the good side of fan fic! Once that is out, I’ll make sure that it’s blasted all over for you guys to see! That being said, I want to give my thanks to our wonderful community here. That is truly what we have created over the last 10 years. The forum is thriving with more and more members using it to connect with other members, the archive is humming along and we just keep growing. When I put out the call asking for people willing to speak about fan fiction to the journalist, I was amazed at the response. Now, I’ll freely admit that I know a lot of it had to do with wanting our own 15 minutes of fame (Hey, who doesn’t?), but the stories and the passion that was so obvious even in the written word took my breath away on occasion. Are there other archives out there? Absolutely! But I don’t think that any other large, multi-fandom archive has the type of community that we do here and I thank you for being a part of it!
Authors and AFF have a symbiotic relationship – We provide an outlet for your creative works and you provide the works to bring in more members! When I see the number of people, the amount of stories, the outpouring of creativity, it blows my mind every time. Just like you don’t do this for profit, neither do we, so here is my monthly call – Donations are always appreciated! I know the economy is rough, but $5 here or there means the world to us. Right now our PayPal balance is standing at $545.88
Archive Clean up is still on going. DemonGoddess can power through 300+ chapters a day when she’s not having to put out small fires – So this means she’s into M through R in Books with only Peter Pan and Phantom of the Opera remaining!
As for archive Moderation – adding to the staff has really helped! Take a look at our progress here.
    Happy Reading & Writing!

We were recently contacted by a well respected British publication about appearing in an article supporting Fan Fiction since we are one of the largest Fan Fiction communities out there. The following is his email to us:
I would love to have some of our more established, long term, articulate Fan Fiction Authors who are currently active (Perhaps even an Originals author as we don't JUST do fan fic) speak with him. If this is something you are interested in, please let me know via a forum PM. Alternatively, if you have not signed up for the forums, you can always send me an email at admin@adult-fanfiction.org with your pen name/link to your profile and contact information that you would like to be provided. I'd appreciate, but not require, a brief statement as to why you would like to represent the site.
I'm expecting a large response (I mean who doesn't want to be quoted in an article!) so please understand that so he is not overwhelmed, I'll be sorting through the responses and sending only a handful on to him. I will be looking for someone who, as I mentioned above, is currently active in the archive, well versed and well spoken and has been with the site for a decent amount of time.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm so excited for the recent popularity and acceptance of fan fiction! If you have a chance, make sure you check out PBS's Idea Channel episode on YouTube talking about it! They'd love for our users to sound off in the comments!

Edit: Okay! So, I've got the short list created ... of 18... I still gotta whittle down, but at least I'm getting somewhere! Please understand that due to the sheer volume of applications, it is just not a possibility for me to respond to each of you individually. It's been a pleasure getting to understand a bit of why you do what you do and I can't even begin to express how blessed I feel to have such a supportive group of people!

We rely heavily on strangers out there, reading the stories, remembering other stories they've read, and getting suspicious enough about similarities to report it to us. We've caught a lot of plagiarists because of people like that. We're well aware that other sites don't seem to care all that much about plagiarists, but most of us are writers ourselves, and we know how we'd feel if our stories got plagiarised, so the least we can do is to ban them and publicly humiliate them. And we'll keep that up, as long as people keep bringing these things to our attention.
I'm glad your situation got sorted.
