Guest Alice Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago I am not sure I agree with the homepage statement that a person can't read fanfiction that is not original out loud. By writing the very fanfic using another copyrighted authors characters and basic plots you are copyright infringing yourself. there is some info here with a copyright lawyer that its not cut and dry that you can't read an authors book outloud and the parameters which they may be allowed to Quote
BronxWench Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago We do not host video or audio content. We deal strictly with written content. The practice of reading a book aloud is something you'd find on TikTok, or YouTube, and not here on AFF. Fan fiction, based on a published book, or any visual format such as movies or television, is covered under the Fair Use provisions of copyright law as long as no profit is made by the fan fiction writer, and there is a clear disclaimer of ownership of the copyrighted material. There must also be citations for any content copied from the original work. For example, if you use song lyrics in the body of a fan fiction, you must cite the song and artist, because that material is copyrighted by the artist. The statement on our Terms of Service page and Content Guidelines refers to a genre of fan fiction referred to as “Read-the-book” in which the authors incorporate large sections or the entirety of the original book, which is indeed a copyright violation. You are certainly free to read any book aloud; what you are not allowed to do is copy an entire book and insert a new character, or have your character respond to book content. Quote
