You're right, it's part of Jack's character. He is a 'White Knight', but I don't think it's something he decides to do - he's driven by the thought of others in need and that he's the only one who can help. To the degree that it's a character flaw. He can't control himself. If if he tells himself, "Stop!", he goes.

I've been reading up on the sixteen standard personality types. I'm an INTP, but I could have told you I'm the quiet analyst (of course)

https://www.16personalities.com/personality-types

Looks like the "White Knight" is INFJ's "Diplomat"

https://www.16personalities.com/infj-personality

Really though, it is most important for INFJs to remember to take care of themselves. The passion of their convictions is perfectly capable of carrying them past their breaking point and if their zeal gets out of hand, they can find themselves exhausted, unhealthy and stressed.

I'm also along the lines of it's not intentional for Jack, like Brad suggested, but that on some level, even if it is remote, Brad was right. As for personality, I fall between ISTJ and INTP-for the Jung Typology Test. The Holland Code has my listed as CIS and CS.

"The familiar, excited feeling, the stiffening in my pants, the hollow feeling of my breath in my chest... All of it came rushing back in a second."

"This wasn't right! I'd sworn that I would stop this whole prostitution thing happening and here I was, letting myself get turned on by it like usual. That was not how it was going to be."

Before the saga is over I would love to see Jack have another session with Dr. Fitzsimmons and find out why he is both a righteous avenger and a sexual voyeur. Jack is a 'White Knight' and what else?

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been silent for a bit but I'll be posting the Reality Check and an update soon! :)

Don't worry about it and don't rush. One thing I'm curious about is whether the beating that Jack took was perhaps based on something that you might have witnessed? I've seen any number of playground and schoolyard fights but it was always one-on-one and more along the lines of the Craig-Jack Homecoming fight. The two guys were usually bleeding and out of breath before any serious damage was done.

The only beat-down in my personal experience happened around 1978 to a cousin of my best friend. He mouthed off to a carload of the wrong people and took an hellacious pounding a lot worse than Jack did (two months in the hospital and rehab). Like Billy Joel said-- the good old days weren't always good.

This may well be Jack's breaking point, but I fear it has set events in motion that are now beyond his control. Even if Jack does nothing more than lay in a hospital bed, things will continue to escalate before they calm down.

Speaking of the pipe bomb, it could be triggered during the prom, I believe it was said. After all, there will be a sizeable amount of people there, and Jack could be among them.

But would they really put dozens of people at risk just for jack? If they wanted him gone an 'accident' wouldn't be that hard to cause. I just doubt they'd risk murdering a bunch of innocent kids and going to jail for the rest of their lives. The pipe bomb does have to show up sometime though, so I'm with whoever said it was probably in his locker and found before it explodes.

Don the Pimp seems to have a modicum of common sense and intelligence, at least when it comes to his entrepreneurial and organizational skills. He has to know how much trouble he and his two pals will be in once Jack talks to the police. Right now the charges are felony assault at the state level. It can only go downhill from there. If they cross a state line they become federal fugitives. If they completely lose their minds and plant an IED in a school or at a school event then it would be less painful if they simply hung themselves. In my opinion Don will either try to lay low or head for the hills. His two friends will be the ones stupid enough to take revenge against Jack.

Hey everyone! Time for the Reality Check:

- Jack's audition and his subsequent excitement about being cast is exactly the same as mine when I was cast for the same play the same year of high school. I couldn't sing either but when I was told there was a major speaking role with no singing, I was so excited.

- Jessica and Craig's campaigns against each other are very similar to a campaign for the same position my Junior year. It was a tough time for me, since they were both my friends and neither was, honestly, a great fit for the position. I made it a little easier on Jack.

- I wish I could say I saw Shannon and Binyam's real life counterparts again but, sadly, I never did. Recently looked them up on Facebook and they seem to be doing quite well.

- The first Philosophy class and the subsequent paper Jack wrote are exactly the same as the one I wrote for the same class. I doubt I can plagiarize myself but if I can, I shall sue myself to the fullest extent of the law.

- Jack's beating is identical to one that I myself received in school. It was actually in elementary school and the damage was not as extensive, but it was still pretty brutal. I have a hard time around brick these days, just because I keep expecting someone to slam my face against it.

Sorry about the delay on this but I've actually been writing up a storm on the next chapter and its more than halfway done. Hopefully it should be done soon!

In other business, I completely agree with Joe Long when he said the 'exposition dump' may have been a little much. I was trying to goof on the whole thing a bit (hence the, "Just imagine it as a Star Wars text crawl" thing) but it was a joke that probably went on a bit too long. I apologize for that and will attempt to rework it in the future.

Two more chapters left in the Saga and then we can move on. This one's been draining, not gonna lie, but the end is in sight and its giving me strength. As is your continued support so thank you all so much for that and I hope to be back with good news soon :)

The end was brutal. Kayla, of course without really saying it, broke up with Jack. Or was nearly there.

A trial separation, one would hope. If they do split for a while I wonder if Nick will make a play for Kayla?

Only two chapters left and lots of questions to be answered. Did Kayla really break up with Jack or is she trying to get his attention? Will Jack and Rhona ever get back to being friends? What is really going on with Belle? What is really going on with Amanda? What is the extent of Jack's injuries? What is going to happen to the prostitution ring? Where's the pipe bomb? Is the pipe bomb even a part of the saga or could we see the aforementioned water torture? Will Jack get off his ass and apply for college? Who knows what may happen. Just gotta wait until the next chapter. Jack really needs to go back to Fitzsimmons and take Kayla with him. Jack needs to repair his relationship with Kayla before he loses her for good.

That's a good question. I've been thinking about what a break-up would mean-- not so much to Jack and Kayla's friends at school, but to their families at home. The Hannigans and the Harrisons are more than your average neighbors. They spend holidays and vacations together and genuinely love each other almost like in-laws. Their kids breaking up would be like someone had died. Jack and Kayla would both get a ton of guilt from their folks. Not to mention that their college plans would probably be out the window as well. So maybe Kayla is trying to slap some sense into Jack with the threat of leaving him.

There would also be guilt from the twins and possibly Tara, and some from the friends. Basically, like news of Jack's beating will spill out soon, news of Jack and Kayla's relationship troubles would end up spilling out. Speaking of Kayla, I can understand why she'd be baffled Jack would want to help Belle as Belle has done nothing but snarl and spit at them for the last four-five months. Plus some lingering issues from the threesome may be coloring Kayla's views on Jack white-knighting.

Jesus christ. Well written as always, but I think you've written an even more pathetic and unlikable character then Joffrey.

JOFFREY.

:)

This really has just been one drama-kick after another. I know what you're driving at, but it's really sounding more and more like a soap opera, as Jack falls apart at the seams.

It's great, but frustrating at the same time.

If you remember the brief break from sex in the Summer Saga, I'm hoping Jack won't have a fit over not being able to have sex with Kayla for another three and a half months. Part of me is wondering if this saga will end with a bang in terms of the pipe bomb. Now Don and his cronies are in jail, Don, angry over his plans failing, could blame Jack and have Matt or someone else plant the bomb to get rid of him. Hopefully not and Jack is able to rebuild his relationship with Kayla. Belle, I can understand her reaction at what Jack thought and did, but at the same time, think "Jack couldn't really ask her what was wrong as she'd probably hiss and spit at him", so, in wanting to help Belle, Jack made shit worse. Maybe this causes Jack to do a 180 and he decides to not help anyone as, every time he's done so, in his mind at least, he's been screwed over and punished. On the whole subject of Jack and Kayla not having sex, does anyone know the age of consent where Jack and co. live, as I think Kayla's reluctance to have sex with him is mostly a lack of trust. Maybe I am wrong.

Ice actually isn't a super effective way of treating injuries. The medical profession is moving away from it. I don't know what makes me say that, just my comment on the first part of the chapter.

Also, being passed out for more than 10 seconds from an injury is an automatic trip to the hospital. Indication of series possible brain injury.

Age of consent in the US depends on the state and ranges from 16-18. For example, in my home state, it's 16. From what we, and by we I mean Joe Long, have been able to gather, it seems as though Jack lives on the east coast, and if I can recall, in Virginia? There the age of consent is 18. However, every other state around Virginia has an age of consent of 16, save Tennessee. And if we're going on broad terms, the entire eastern sea board runs with 16, the exceptions being Florida, Virginia, and Delaware at 18 and New York at 17.

On to the other point, no, I don't believe Kayla gives a shit about the age of consent. It's just a convenient justification to add to her reasoning on not having sex. And I desperately hope that Jack has at least learned something from his mistakes unlike in the past and will be ok with no sex, or at least understand and not be a dick about. But if we know Jack, it's a good bet he'll probably be dick about it.

What a chapter (Spoiler warning, obvs)

  • In the midst of Jack recovering from his injury, we see Amanda and Alan's sibling relationship get bleak. I mean Amanda was told to basically get the fuck out of the house till Alan finished banging Kelly? Damn that's just... cruel.
  • Jack man.... Jesus, he needs to like just fade out from the world around him for a few weeks and put himself together (both literally and metaphorically). All these events heaped up on him.... fuck i hope he doesn't think about suicide. I dont want him to go down that path. Fuck.
  • The school fucking knew about it. Which makes the 'Jack should tell the school/police' thing even worse. If he said in January, none of this would've happened. But i understand Jack's motives and reasoning, hence why this i massively sympathise for him.
  • He fucked Matt right over tho... And Matt's reaction is completely understandable.
  • Belle...damn girl. I think this is the end of Belle in this story. Unless a massive 180 happens and Jack saves Belle from getting murdered or something (and even then I bet Jack would be punished haha)
  • Kayla is 18, but idk why she is taking stat-rape so seriously. Idk how it works in USA, but here in England if anyone over 18 has relations with someone under 18, even if it was consented, the person over 18 would be charged and arrested. But they've had sex like many times before, so not like this would make a difference no? But i'm guessing she is over exaggerating that to just not want to have sex with Jack, as she probably feels she needs a 'break' from him or something.
  • Damn would be interesting if she takes interest in other guys now for sex.......but i doubt that will happen.
  • Things with Craig and Becca will undeniably get worse. Becca is gonna be fun.
  • Amanda is the sole bright spot in Jack's life right now.

Jack has pretty much fucked things up with everyone who he loves/likes in his life now.

A twist in the tale would suggest Jack would find solace in from a person who hated him. A Craig part 2 if you like.

After all, with the rate at this is going, anything is possible to happen in Jack's life.

This all sets up nicely for a certain Mr. Nightingale to make his comeback.
