Am I allowed to add images in the body of a fic?

I looked everywhere in the FAQs but couldn't find a conclusive answer: is it allowable to imbed an image in the body of a fic? I have a fanart illustration created by a friend I'd like to include in a chapter but I wanted to make sure it was okay before I did so. I do have full permission by the artist to use their work.

The archive does not support images, but we do allow links to fan art to be placed in a chapter. Alternatively, this forum does support images, and if you have a review reply thread, the image can be posted there, and a quick author's note with the forum thread url can direct readers to the image here. Our review reply threads do not require forum registration to read or reply.
