DemonGoddess Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 You all remember last year, middle of September? We have reset the software and the server, to use the new domain name. There is a very SLIGHT change in url: adult-fanfiction.org is now adult-fanfiction.org You will be automatically redirected to the new domain. BEFORE LOGGING IN to ANY application (archive and forum)- Clear your cache and cookies. If you don't want to clear all your cookies, simply delete any for .adult-fanfiction.org (that is how it would appear). As always, cookie clearing does require a browser restart, and with Internet Explorer, a computer restart. Your individual logins remain the same as they were. JayDee 1
Guest Calanthee Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 This is very inconvient not a big help. Surely it is not neccessary............... I'm already confused about these cookies and shit..... a little more instructions would be very helpful. How do you delete your web sight cookies and not ones you don't want to delete? Cal
DemonGoddess Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 What browser are you using? Chrome is easy. For it, you go to settings, then clear browsing data. Yes, this was very necessary.
erullisse Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 We appreciate everything ya'll do, DG - Rock On!
Shunskitten Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks for lettiing us know! X'D man I'm a bit slow in thanking ya aren't I? I cleared my cache and cookies for Chrome now :3 (now to log back into EVERYTHING.)
DemonGoddess Posted September 1, 2013 Author Report Posted September 1, 2013 Oh I know, I hate having to do it too, but I actually do rather often, just because of some of the things I do which end up making for corrupted cookie strings.
Guest Lerianis Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Eh? No, Internet Explorer clearing cookies does NOT need a browser restart. Whoever told the Admin of this site that was lying.
tehuti88 Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I need some help and I'm not sure where to post this request. I had a thread entitled something like "Explanations & Disclaimers" where I included lengthy disclaimers/intros to my fiction that wouldn't fit in the fiction itself, per site rules. I had the URL of this page saved in my browser-- www2.adultfanfiction.net/forum/index.php/topic/26469-explanations-disclaimers/ --but with the URL change, it forwards me to the main page of the site, and not to the original post in the forum. I went to my forum profile to try to find the post there but it only shows a link to my most recent post (a help request from some time ago). I really need the link to that forum post to update my profile and...ugh, I just realized, to update all my stories here, since each one of them with a long intro includes that link to the forum. Oh man will this take a lot of work. Is there any way I can find that old post? Oh man will this take a lot of editing... ;_;
tehuti88 Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) Never mind I found it. ;_; I do wish there were an easier way for users to find their previous posts from their profiles. BTW, it looks to be possible but I wish to be sure, can we edit our posts from 2011? Since some info in my forum posts might need to be updated, too. (I have the old site links to my stories and need to change those...I notice the old emoticons aren't working as well.) Anyway, now I have a lot of editing to do. Edited September 1, 2013 by tehuti88
Calanthee Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Dear Demon Goddess, Sorry for being bitchy earlier, my old computer gives me trouble a lot and I get confused easly... didn't mean to take it out on you! I know you guys work your fingers and knuckles to bone trying to keep things going on AFF. org... here... but please forgive me. My computer has two browser, so far I got Google Chrome done and changed over. Thanks for the added info it helped a lot! Sincerely, Calanthee the Gslinger If I did what you guys do daily, I need something much stronger than coffee to keep me going... closer to rocket fuel!
DemonGoddess Posted September 1, 2013 Author Report Posted September 1, 2013 @Lerianis - As I avoid IE like the plague for the most part, if they've changed the restart of the computer requirement with the latest version, I haven't tried with it yet to know. IE always required a computer restart to make any changes take effect before. @tehuti88 - In your browser, you can edit your links. Change adultfanfiction.net to adult-fanfiction.org in the bookmarks you have. I ran a query in the database to take care of the address issue within the stories, where there are links so all that should already be changed. @Cal - Believe me, I understand. ^^ Coffee (in mass quantities) does me just fine
JayDee Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 I just realised I have over 50 links to forum discussion threads on my old story chapters. I understand there's a need for the change and all, but boy am I boned... UNLESS! I just don't update and let the adventerous find their way... it's so crazy it just might work!
DemonGoddess Posted September 1, 2013 Author Report Posted September 1, 2013 If you look at your stories, you'll find I already fixed that. RogueMudblood 1
JayDee Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Look at them? I can barely stand to think of them... But thanks for this! Will save us all a lotta time
DemonGoddess Posted September 1, 2013 Author Report Posted September 1, 2013 hehehehe, not a problem!
AlfonsoLing Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Hi DG, As you know, you're adding new members all the time who have no idea why you made this change. So what happened? Let's be honest. AFF.net is cool. A-FF.org is, well, not nearly as cool. Did you get heat from FF or is this some sort of preemptive move? And since you're making changes, is there a chance you'll get rid of that annoying enter-your-age page? The most extreme adult sites on the net aren't that annoying. They just have a warning page. I know you've got to cover your bases, but that seems very unnecessarily annoying and I'm sure it's killing alotta traffic. Just a big-assed button next to the words "I SWEAR ON MY MOTHER'S GRAVE, I'M 18! FOR REAL I AM!" should do the trick. Nothing like non-stop bitching for a first post, huh? Anyways, AFF (or A-FF) is an awesome site. Keep up the great work!
DemonGoddess Posted September 1, 2013 Author Report Posted September 1, 2013 Yes, there is a very good reason for the domain change, which I'm not getting in to at this point in time. It has not a thing to do with any other site. The enter-your-age ugly blue page is an old cookie setter which is tied in to the chapter tables. Until the new code for the storyboarding is in place, it has to stay. It'll be replaced with a click page.
RogueMudblood Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 If you look at your stories, you'll find I already fixed that. Thank you - I hadn't even thought about that. So, profuse, profuse thanks!
pittwitch Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) For those of us who suffered through the outtages, I thank you for this Herculean endeavor to protect our stories and this site. I look forward to many more years of stability for my reading pleasure. I know full well that no one would have undertaken such a huge amount of work if it were not absolutely vital to the continuation of the site. Thanks for all you do. AlfonsoLing Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Okay, so you're selling it? Or retasking it as a funnel into some ad site like AFF.com? Since you're changing the ugly blue screen anyways, couldn't you simply hide hard-coded values in the HTML and change the text a little? You just gotta feel bad for all those people perjuring themselves persuant to Title 28 every single day. The prisons are over-crowded as it is. But I guess I'll wait if I have to.
LisaT2525 Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Damn, I wrote this long thing and since I didn't sign it, it didn't take. Ok, I am very computer challenged, so please bear with me. I went into my control panel, clicked on internet options, clicked on delete history upon exit and then cleared the cookies. Didn't see anything about caches thought (whatever they are). Told you I was challenged. Then I typed in adult-fanfiction.org, not to be confused with the porn domain, adultfanfiction.org (which of course I typed in first! lol) and logged in. But then the screen changed but the log in and the password sections were clear again. Why didn't it log me in?
pittwitch Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 You need to re-login as your cookies were cleared. Cookies are what save your passwords.
LisaT2525 Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks, Pittwitch. I saw on the left-hand side the log-in area that is in the box with the members, etc. I logged in there and it worked. So I guess I'm all set. Thanks for your quick response. =)
