While I don't have any of my own, I can understand this. Part of it has to do with having kids yourself. I think we're genetically programmed to believe that our own children are cute. After all, they have half our genetic material. Of course, if nobody believed children were cute, then there probably wouldn't be a next generation, except for women who get knocked up in a bar one night and forgot to take the pill, rape victims, or something along those lines. Another possible reason has to do with past experiences. It's what I call the dirty window of perception; we all look at things through a window stained with our past experiences, beliefs, attitudes, opinions etc. Thus associating one child with cuteness can lead to associating all children with cuteness.

I have never... been so long-winded on an explanation until now.
