Guest orleans Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 I'm curious; I'm from Germany myself and would like to know if there are any people from other countries who like to read German stories in the NE-section or in general.... either just for fun or for trying to learn and improve their knowledge... I know many German people (I include myself) who read English fics to get a better unerstanding of the language, but I haven't met anyone doing the same thing with the German language... As I said, I'm curious Hugs and orleans Quote
Guest Knorg Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 Not I. Despite some minor family connections to Germany, I speak and read not a word. Except scheiße. Quote
Guest orleans Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 not a word. Except scheiße LOL yeah, the most important word of all.... It's strange, no matter what language I learn, the swearwords are the words I remember the best Quote
trekqueen Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 I've studied German for many years and know it fluently but I haven't gotten into any fanfics written in it yet. However, I have a Dutch fanfic writer friend and I've glanced a bit at some of her original stuff in Dutch. Might wander eventually though to read some of the fics of my favorite fandoms eventually though. Quote
Guest orleans Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 @ trekqueen: OFF-TOPIC I just saw that you are also participating on the Slashy Santa Fic Exchange I'm really curious to see all the stories unveiled So you've studied German? I think it's a difficult language to learn; many of my fellow Germans have problems with the grammar. What did you think abot it when you stared studying? Quote

I need to meet this friend of yours And on topic: I think German and Dutch are two of the ugliest languages in existence. And I know alot of languages. Well, I'm not fluent in most of them, but I know what they sound like, know most of the beautiful words. I think the most beautiful language I know is Spanish. Just those two words stroke my inner most core: Llevame, Salvame Quote

Dutch and German are my two most favourite languages and they sound absolutely incredible to me. I'm quite fond of the idea of mastering all their sounds. Plus I find Romanic languages too soft and pansy I would really like to read in German but I'm afraid I don't know enough at this point in time. It won't stop me from peeking every so often. Quote

Fuck you. Because knowing Dutch and German means you have more expertise on judging if they sound bad or not? And yes, yes I did. I believe you have bad taste. I also believe it's ridiculously easy to get you worked up enough to spout "Fuck You." Or that you're pretty trigger happy with it. Oh and, by the way. I said your taste was bland, not bad Edited April 20, 2008 by RikuDrak Quote

trekqueen Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Ok I totally suck for never making back here. Talk about long time no see... my apologies for never coming around again to answer questions. I think it's a difficult language to learn; many of my fellow Germans have problems with the grammar. What did you think abot it when you stared studying? Yea, the grammar is intense but I think it has helped me a lot with my proper English too. It makes everything so much cleraer! I studied German in high school for four years then finished my BA in German in college with my BS in Computer Science. I also did two exchange trips, each in those respective schools. Hubby and I went to Europe last year and went all over the place including Germany, Austria, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia... to name a few. The taxi driver we had in Poland spoke better German than English so he just conversed with me that way and was rather surprised to find an American who spent time and money on the language (though I seem to get that from Germans too, even the German lady I spoke with at the Sequoia National Park in June). And yes, ack... so long ago... I was very excited about the resulting stories in the Slashy Santa. My story kind of... well took off and went out of control. My Ardor in August story did not help much either so now I have another bunny prodding me! Dutch XDthat's so cool, I'm from the netherlands too. So much to do! As for 'ugly' languages, I'd have to say Tagalog just sounds icky to my ears. Though I love my German! Spanish is plain to me but then again I pretty much live in Little Mexico aka Southern California. Quote
Fruehling Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Of course I'm reading German stories( I am from Germany after all ); just not here because there is almost nothing to be found. That's the main reason I started reading in English. Thats the main problem with German fics -there arent so many to be found on English websites since there aren't so many English-spreaking people knowing the German language as well. It's quite different the other way around. Quote
