What is the next holiday to come?

Is it Christmas or Thanksgiving?

If you haven't noticed by the commericals that are airing on TV now, you would be saying that the next holiday is Christmas.

But it's not, it's Thanksgiving.

I have noticed in the past few years that right after Halloween, the ads start playing for Christmas, not Thanksgiving turkey tips or food that you would be buying for Thanksgiving but Christmas toys for the kids and tissues for your running noses with a snowy theme to it and you can see Christmas decorations hanging up.

It's not even that time of the year and yet, the ads are promoting it early once again!

I can remember a time when it would be after Thanksgiving day was over that the commericals for Christmas presents were shown, not before Thanksgiving.

And the stores have skipped decorating their stores with Thanksgiving stuff since it is about 20 days away but Christmas stuff, that holiday is like forty three days away from now!

No wonder I am starting to hate Christmas! Everyone is pushing it too soon and it is making those people who have holiday blues start feeling blue sooner then they should!

And normally, I do not mind the holiday, since I get to see my cousins another time before the end of the year comes but geez, the promotion of Christmas is just too much and much too soon!

What are your opinions on it?

I agree that it seems that Christmas is pushed in the stores far too early. As I understand it, it's because Christmas is the highest sales of the year for many stores (not just obvious ones like toys or booze) and they want to pump it for all its worth.

Aside from the fireworks of Nov 5th - which isn't really a holiday these days -Christmas is the next holiday on the calender for my familiy in the UK. Don't have any thanksgiving.

I started hating the commercialism of Christmas a long time ago. It overshadows everything else, and the hype causes more stress and depression than it does happiness.

Don't get me wrong - I celebrate it. But I also insist on keeping it small and simple every year.

I celebrate Thanksgiving twice a year. Once in October (Canada) and once in November (U.S). There's also Eid and Diwali.

I'd have to say that I prefer the American Thanksgiving and Eid over Christmas. The Canadian Thanksgiving isn't ever a huge deal, whereas the American one has more importance placed in it. Eid feels rewarding because you worked hard for a month to earn it.

Halloween trumps them both. I love dressing up and being someone else for a little while. It's the actress in me. Collecting candy is fun and great exercise. The scariest part is the candy itself - I'm a chocoholic diabetic and the candy is a cruel taunt indeed.

I love Halloween more than Thanksgiving and Christmas combined!

To me Halloween is special to me and means more then those two holidays.

Thanksgiving is nice, any man loves him some football and large amounts of hot food.

Halloween... I can count of October 31st to be the only day a year I gain 10 pounds.

Christmas has a double meaning to me, so I have to go with it.

This last year right around then I met my current girlfriend and had my life spared by what I can only call an act of god.
