PariahSolo Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Greetings, Whimiscal and silly question time, if you don't mind. Granted I may be coming across aa a hypocrite considering I am writing an X-Men Adult FanFic, but what boggles my mind (in other words I just don't get it) is why do people write (and read) Adult FanFic for titles where the characters are not remotely human? Are they being written sexual gratification or just to be weird? I don't get it, me who grew up drooling over big boobies in comic books (I blame John Byrne for that), just don't get it? Someone care to enlighten me? Thanks, Albert - Pariahsolo - eastwoodaen Quote
Ginevra Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Something I've discovered here at AFF -- no matter how weird or dark I get, there is somebody much wierder or darker than me. I personally don't get the tentacles fetish...Seriously. It boggles my mind that it is actually a bonafide story code. The most nonhuman I've gotten in my fan fics is describing graphic sex with Nightcrawler making use of his tail and an array of "attachments" for the disfigured Cyborg from Teen Titans. Oops...Almost forgot I posted some of my Gargoyles fics on AFF. They're pretty anthropomorphic though. At least some of the Gargoyles (from the Disney animated series) are definitely hot. All that rock hard muscle running around in loin cloths... Goliath has that deep rumbling voice.... And they can swoop you up and glide away into the night...The females are pretty good looking too and don't wear much more. I might be interested in reading or someday writing about spirits or other creatures that aren't bound by the usual physical boundaries of sex. That could be interesting. Anne Rice did a bit of that in her books. But, that's about it for me. Quote
PariahSolo Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 Hey Ginerva, I get most of the antro stuff (most of it) but TMNT? Or some of the really kiddie anime? (Again, hypocritical, in my XSFGC, the students are very promiscuous but I have tried to imply that they are at least 15 and Artie and Leech are not in their teens and not fair game.) Or Squee! or Power Puff Girls? As for the Tentacle Rape, to me, that is all about control, and since it is unwanted, rape. Thanks, Albert - Pariahsolo - eastwoodaen P.S. Excellent Sig. Growing up RAH was my mentor. Quote
madlodger Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Are they being written sexual gratification or just to be weird? For sexual gratification. Being weird is subjective, one person's "weird" is another's "normal". Quote
EveKnight75 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I don't think it's necessary to get it. Please allow me to spew some overstated wisdom. *Every person has a different fetish. One person's fetish is another person's squick. What it all comes down to is how we treat each other. Give out sufficient warnings. Don't berate someone for your own squick. Don't attempt to rape someone with your fetish lest you be castrated for it. The whole thing about a fetish is that it's not normal or easily understood. Perhaps it's not meant to be. There are times when you can try to explain your own fetish as clearly and rationally as you're able until you're blue in the face and the person on the other side still won't get it.* That's OK. I like to read incest, but I have boundaries within it. One partner can't have authority over the other, they have to be similar in age, they both have to be physically old enough, and they both have to consent. So by default, I stick to stories involving either cousins or siblings (most of the time). I don't quite get why parent-child or family rape would be sexually gratifying to anyone. I understand the psychological fascination and how it would make for an interesting storyline, but that's about as far as it goes. I've had others try to explain it to me so I understand just a little bit more but I don't think I'll ever fully understand. As long as we respect each other's tastes, why should that ever be a problem? In the same way, I've seen debates between farm-bestiality and domestic-bestiality. Valid arguments on both sides, but they don't necessarily pick up on each other's sub-fetish. Then again, you don't get bestiality, period. That's kinda the point, isn't it? I don't get it either, but I've got nothing against reading it. On the domestic side, there may be one argument that you may somewhat understand. Your pet isn't just an animal to you. Your pet is your friend, and you're acquainted with his/her feelings, personality, and little quirks. The pet transcends animal and becomes a person to you. On that one side, sex is acting on love. On the other side, it's unique and interesting because it's not straightforward to perform the act. It creates a whole new world of sensations. Why can't a person have the right to indulge in a fantasy world wrapped around the concept as long as they never act on it in real life? As for your question: of course we're all perverts! Why else would we be here? It's just that we're all perverts in slightly different ways, that's all. Afterthought: Read the first Jungle Book story ever posted on AFF. Answer the opening question in context to that. Good luck. Please note that the warning that is there now wasn't there until after I pointed it out in an archive check report. Quote
Keith Inc. Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Are they being written sexual gratification or just to be weird? The challenge!Lamia, Naga, Sphinx, Harpy, Centaur, and so on... What would they find attractive? What would a human DO with them, were they real? Could they mate with humans? How so? If they're part human/part animal, can someone find the human part sexy, the animal part squicky, and yet still have a good time? For me, it's 'can i make a man screwing a snake-woman come across as a believable sex scene, rather than just an experiment in the mechanics. Beyond the great big tits on a centaur with Clydesdale ancestry, i don't find the horse-woman particularly sexy, but i do like to see if i can make the sex memorable. As for the rest... Well, i grew up watching Land of the Giants, Gulliver's Travels and Star Trek. Those characters are real to me, persons. I've written stories about them, using them, exploring those worlds. I wouldn't be surprised if people writing some of the fictions here center them around the characters that were real to them at one time or another. The fact that they're turtles isn't, i suspect, nearly as important as that they were perceived as persons. Quote
DodgeSuperBee Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 (edited) *Glances down at signature* Yeah, I think I'm obligated to reply to this... It's definitely the challenge. If someone can read a love scene from my fanfic as a believable scene between characters that have humanlike emotions even if they're not remotely humanlike in physical form, then I met my goal. While I am writing about characters from a children's movie, I like to think of the movie as a G-rated view of a universe that can be as R-rated as ours, and the characters can have relationships, procreate, drink and swear off-camera. I personally don't write love scenes between characters younger than 18 but I don't see anything wrong with writing about adult characters doing adult things, even if the adult characters are originally from a children's show. For that matter, I remember seeing a cute but non-sexual romance fic between Bob and Wendy the Builder in which Bob finally confesses his feelings for her. Anyone who's seen the show can pick up on the tension between those two. While Bob the Builder is a small and somewhat odd fandom for an adult to write for, I don't see any harm in it even if someone did write an actual adult fic for it. Is it perverted and weird to write fanfic about non-human characters? Of course, but to me they're no more or less "real" than other fictional characters. Do I write for sexual gratification? I can't speak for every writer in my fandom, but I have a healthy sexual relationship with my husband so I hardly need fanfic to fulfill that. Finally, at least in my fandom there's a strong element of humor when writing het and slash alike. Many reviews include phrases like "LOL" and "tailpipe, haha." I doubt anyone seriously gets off on this stuff beyond thinking "that's sorta hawt" and trying to translate it to human terms, but if someone really does get off by reading what I write, more power to him/her...I'd just rather not hear about it. To each his own! Edited November 8, 2007 by DodgeSuperBee Quote
PariahSolo Posted November 9, 2007 Author Report Posted November 9, 2007 DSB, that is an excellent response. which I think shows my own short comings as a writer and a porn connoissuer. I read porn for the sex but all too often I will get entrenched in the story someone is telling but when I think of porn stories, I think of it in the mode of wank material and not actual 'stories'. Like I said, am a hypocrite. Quote
Toushikku Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 I'm just as confused. I've seen alot of wierd things on here... and a few things I never ever want to think about again. But I guess that's just how some people are. You get bored of the normal after a while. Maybe they did. Quote
Guest Rosemarius Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 Yes, maybe we are perverts. But maybe, some of us came here because it's one of the few places in which we can write about what we could never do in real life. For example...I often write about rape and homosexuality in my stories. But I could never do that in real life: I am too shy to approach other men, and I would never rape someone. It's just that something about them thrills me, probably because it's something I will never do for real. Quote
shinigamiinochi Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Sigh, yes I'll admit it, I like tentacle sex and anthro sex, but considering i love werewolves, i don't think its that much of a stretch. Psychologically, people are always looking for new and kinky experiences, so writing or reading about sex that couldn't happen allows people to create their own fantasies. As for the tentacles, well, tentacles can do things to you no human can *grin* Quote
Birddi Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Yes, maybe we are perverts. You have gotten to the underlining answer I believe. Stories are about make-believe. It isn't about having a sex with an animal, a sibling, a child, etc. It's about exploring why the notion intrigues people, why it disturbs, and even why it arouses. It's the idea rather than the reality that I see expored so much on AFF. I think that for each individual their reasoning differes. I used to not be able to read anything without humans, bit the bullet one day and decided it wasn't a completely doomed situation. I like the idea of monogomy. Therefore when I read stories that have a 'mating' senerio, where two people are bonded together and only they can be with each other, I am especially more at ease. I giggle and enjoy the story more. Why? Because it takes away something I'm not comfortable with, the idea of being cheated on. It makes life easy, it keeps things simple - things that real life doesn't have. There are options in life on who you want for a partner (at least usually) and in those situations it's primarily out of the characters' hands. Why does the idea that people not having options on who they mate make me at ease? Simple. It is NOT reality. It is make-believe. It doesn't mean that I don't like some control over my life. It doesn't mean I dislike responsibilty. It doesn't have any personal reflection upon me as a person, or at least not in an important way. If the situation was in reality, you can bet I'd be throwing a fit. But that's the beauty of it. It's make-believe. I'm sure there are many reasons out there, I'm just giving my own odd quirk for the pile. Quote
Helluin Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 A lot of it doesn't appeal to me, but the basic fact is that sex is a physical act you do with your body. For some people it's interesting -- even titillating -- to imagine shapes/textures/scents that are different from what they can get in real life. Just the way some sex toys look like artificial body parts, whereas sometimes they're strange shapes made to touch you in ways you can't, or items that aren't part of the human body at all, like feathers or ice cubes. There's also this curious thought. If you extended your question/line of thought, you'd have to ask this, too: why isn't everyone homosexual? What's with this hetero- (which literally means "other") business? Isn't it perverted to have sex with someone who's not your shape or even your anatomy? Isn't that weird? The only time I've written a furry-anthro type story so far was partly for the challenge, and partly as a joke, because it was a character in a game who gets overlooked by fanfic writers. So I had my "Kimahri finally gets some lovin'" story. Oddly enough, it's one of my most steamy. I think it's partly because human sex scenes can all sound the same (or at least it's easier to fall into patterns), whereas there I had no model to work from, and it meant trying to describe things in a fresh way. Also, for that one at least, I found the element of alien-ness to be a little exhilirating, because it was slightly dangerous -- like sleeping with a Klingon. Speaking of which. A lot of us have grown up with Star Trek or other science fiction/fantasy, and are a little more used to thinking of other sentient species as people. That show itself couldn't portray wildly different-looking species very often, but still, the seeds of the idea were planted... for some of us, we can imagine other life forms, and that's an intriguing thought. What's it like? How would it be different? How would it be the same? What would the turn-ons be with someone who's got fur, or whose skin temperature is different from yours? I don't write that-- save for my one bit of crack -- but I can see why somebody might. Whereas personally, despite being on the homo side of bi, I can't get the big boob fetish at all. Nor for that matter high heels, or most western-culture make-up. Quote
Keith Inc. Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 Isn't it perverted to have sex with someone who's not your shape or even your anatomy? Isn't that weird?Happily, no.What appeals, appeals. All the justification or rationalization or logical evaluation won't change the fact that boobs make me all warm in side. Well, if they're female boobs, within a certain range. Too small and i lose interest. Too big and i tend to want to ask the artist (or plastic surgeon) "Have you never SEEN any real boobies? Any idea how they function? Are you a helium fetishist?" Oddly enough, it's one of my most steamy. I think it's partly because human sex scenes can all sound the same (or at least it's easier to fall into patterns), whereas there I had no model to work from, and it meant trying to describe things in a fresh way.I think that's a very important part of porn. Difference.Twenty years ago, if it had been suggested that i'd write a bestiality (unicorn) fanfic, i'd have denied it utterly. But i was drawing a blank on hybrid partners for Lamia, and someone suggested Biblical porn... Well, it was certainly fresh. I dunno how steamy... Quote

Hmmm.... true >.> maybe.... o.o But, I don't think most things people write about is my cup of tea. The whole tenticle thing and rape, beastiality, ect. I am not interested in real life nor does it turn me on. As EveKnight75 has mentioned, one person's fetish is another persons squick. I may mention/imply those things in my story, but I don't give full blown detail on it, I feel wrong/grossed out doing it. I don't know, maybe it's because I am too afraid to cross such lines and go too far. I have yet to cross the SMUT line. -__-; Quote
PariahSolo Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 I must ask out of curiosity, which non-human fandom inspired the original post? It wasn't one fandom but a whole slew of them that I could never get wood for specifically because they don't contain a female shape that I find sexy (yes, i have seen some hot anthro art) like Smurfs, Spongebob Square pants and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac; then there is the cartoons/anime where all of the characters are kids, not teenagers, but kid-kids.
