Guest DarkAvenger Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 http://resource.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600090059 The TOS has been changed. The wording and timing has finally been hashed out and approved by all mods. (This has been in the works for months, but we had to find a way to be fair about genuine edits and not piss people off while doing it.)
madlodger Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Just read through the new TOS and would like to notice that it makes sense. All the points are reasonable and clearly stated. I like 20) a lot 1)c) is pretty good too. 2) is my personal rule 13) made sense but would just mentioning a story which is not posted on AFF be absolutely prohibited? If it's a part of discussion on a fic which is posted? 14)a) and 15) 100% agree. I do feel uneasy reading fantasy fics about real people. Overall, a very good job on the new TOS.
Elvy Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 All I have to say is "THANK YOU!" for adding this new ToS rule. It was beginning to get extremely maddening to see people update with their new stories only to have old ones bump them to another page with no legitimate editing being done to them. Kudos to you! *thumbs up*
Guest DarkAvenger Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 13) made sense but would just mentioning a story which is not posted on AFF be absolutely prohibited? If it's a part of discussion on a fic which is posted? It's because we have an advertiser banner slot that advertisers pay for. People were trying to "get around" this by advertising their sites/stories inside of non-stories or whatever in various sections, knowing full well about the advertiser program. It was pissing advertisers off and us, because they are our only source of steady month-to-month $ for the server. That particular rule has been there since ohhh... mid 2006.
madlodger Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 advertising their sites/stories inside of non-stories or whatever in various sections I think I know what you mean. I have a list of my favorite Slash posted and people responded with more recs. Well, after checking them out, at least one recommended author had just three chapters posted and then: "If you want more, go to this site." And the link took you to the paysite. My list is only for AFF fics, so I responded with: I am reluctant to recomend fics, leading to a paysite. I am all for good writers getting paid for their work, however the free site should be free of little traps like that. My question is about the different sort of thing, though: Let's say, I get a review which said: "It's the most in-character Severus I have read in fanfics". So, I'd reply with: "Thank you. I've read 'so-and-so' fic and their Severus was pretty IC as well". And they reply with:"OMG! You've read 'so-and-so'! It's the ultimate Sev fic!. They did twist Hermione a bit too much, though." Would this sort of exchange be considered against TOS if 'so-and-so' is not posted on AFF?
Guest DarkAvenger Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Just don't link to it and you'll be fine. The exceptions to the rule are if you're working off of someone else's storyline or something and they haven't posted here (and you have permission to be doing what you are, duh), then you can post a link to the story in question to give credit to them. But that's about it. Or if someone posts looking for something in the "looking for fics" areas and you know where it's at somewhere else, then that's acceptable.
EveKnight75 Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Actually, that last bit is good to hear. I'm working on a sequel for someone else's fic (with fanblessings, no less). I have an excerpt done that I wanted to test out on an adult audience, but I was slightly apprehensive about posting it. The thing is, the other person's fic is rated T and therefore on FFN only. The author in question is an adult and does visit AFF, but isn't a member. If I was going to post the excerpt, I wanted to do so with a link to the first fic so that I could give proper credit. Since FFN is a free public site, I guess I'm in the clear.

Then no one will bother you and even if someone reports you, it's a legitimate linkage and abuse knows that.
