So, I have been having this recurring nightmare for about the last two or three months and I decided, hey, what the hell, lets interpret it.

Basically, at the beginning of the dream, something different is happening each time. This time I was being chased. But the thing is, the dream always ends the same; I end up sitting somewhere that is almost like a bed and I am frozen in terror. I can't scream, I can't run, I can only sit there - and there is ALWAYS this feeling of an evil presence drawing steadily closer. Now before I never had an indication that it was evil but for my own gut instinct, but this time my cat was with me and as I felt the evil come closer, my cat started growling and hissing.

Anyway, I looked up keywords that described my dream here and this is what I got:

Anything moving toward you in a dream usually signifies that you are becoming more aware of it, feeling it more intensely. So being chased in a dream usually denotes that you are feeling something you fear more intensely and are trying to avoid confronting it. This is not usually a good policy, as you can never get away from yourself.

If you are chasing something it shows what you are making an effort to gain in life, but the thing you are pursuing might be difficult to arrive at, possible because of your own feelings about attaining it.

Inability to face or cope with those emotions, fears, ideas or urges represented in the dream. It is important to find where you felt that sort of terror in the past. This releases its hold on you. This is not easy, because many memories have never been verbalised, or occurred either prior to learning speech, or when you were under anaesthetic.

Evil is 'live' spelt backwards. In dreams the sense or presence of evil is often depicting those things you have so repressed that they are no longer properly alive and healthy. They therefore need meeting and being brought into proper recognition and expression.

Urges such as sex, that frighten us, or we have been taught to be ashamed of, may appear as devils or demons in your dreams.

You may have felt a lot of affection from a cat, and so associate it with sensual, or even sexual pleasure. It can also represent your need to care for someone or be cared for, to have close physical contact.

For some people a cat is a substitute baby, it can therefore depict the strong maternal feelings and desires. Or a male cat can represent male sex drive.

The term 'catty' refers to a spiteful woman. So if the cat in your dream is angry it might depict yourself if female, or feelings about a female friend.

Because cats are independent and often alone, they may represent the secret part of yourself, or independence

Personally, I think its the plot bunnies attacking, because at the beginning its almost like a storyline except I am involved.

*grumbles* fucking plot monsters are disturbing my sleep now :)

What about you guys? Any strange dreams and interpretations? Why not share (that way I don't feel like an idiot)?

Unfortunately, I rarely remember my dreams, and I don't try and interpret the ones I do remember; I either welcome them or curse them, depending on what they're about.

How about this dream. Last night I dreamed what could almost be a full length movie plot. There were alien spores that if you stepped in them you would end up tracking them around. They started out as tiny little white puff balls and expanded. At one point in the dream a bunch of people ran across the yard of a house and it looked like snow. Once the puffs had developed though they would merge into shapeshifter aliens. Later in the dream Tom Hanks was part of a government agency that was trying to track down the shapeshifters. There was a whole action sequence on a train with cut scenes to a command center. The shapeshifters did a really good job of looking like people but if you touched them or cut them they were like those little Japanese deserts called moshi, gummy on the outside and squishy on the inside. At that point I lost the plot of the dream and wandered into the cafeteria at the government command center and started talking to the people behind the counter about the amazing variety of pastries for sale. Oddly I wasn't that hungry when I woke up.

Ha! I would like to see how it would interpret half of my dreams. I'm a lucid dreamer, so I usually can have a great deal of control over my dreams.

however there are times when I don't have any control over my dreams, and it's where it gets REALLY weird. it's like my subconscious's a fanfic writer who doesn't know the meaning of restraint or unable to stop writing a story even when it's clearly a stupid idea. like this dream I had two days ago:

This morning, I had a really strange dream about a cartoon called "King of the Hill". I don't even like that TV show, I only watch it occasionally while waiting to watch something else that was supposed to come on later on. Anyway, for those who don't watch this TV show, it's an adult cartoon that airs on Adult swim. the side supporting characters are usually more interesting than the main characters, the hills. There's Dale who's a paranoid conspiracy theory nut, and his wife (forgot her name) who's been cheating on him constantly with a native American named Joe redcorn. My dream centered around those three people. Basically the gist of the dream was that Dale got tired of pretending that he was competely clueless to as what was really going on with Joe Redcorn and his wife. (on the TV show, he acts so clueless to the point where it's almost borderline retarded. they even acted pretty obviously around each other to the point where almost everyone else knew what was going on but him. in recent eps his wife decides to stop the affair and try to be faithful to her husband). so in my dream Dale summons both Joe and his wife in the kitchen and reveals that he's always known all along that they were together all along, and that he didn't really mind because it always turned him on to know that it was happening right under his nose. (!!!) both Joe and the wife is equally shocked to learn this.. and they become even more shocked when Dale also reveals that he's always wanted a threesome. so he starts talking them into it. Needless to say the dream became VERY pornastic from here on now. It just didn't have the wife in between as an sandwich, there was also some hardcore bisexual action going on. I don't think I'll be able to look at those characters on that TV show in the same way ever again.... I wonder what caused me to have that dream? I don't even find any of those people sexy at all, expect for maybe Joe Redcorn. he was proably the only sexy person on that TV show ever

Sounds like you may be suffering from recurrent episodes of sleep paralysis:

Wikipedia->Sleep paralysis

Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. [...] When it occurs upon awakening, the person becomes aware before the REM cycle is complete, and it is called hypnopompic or postdormital.[5] The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes, with some rare cases being hours, "by which the individual may experience panic symptoms"[6] . [...] the paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger.[9] Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations.[8] The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful or dream-like objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision.

i love dream analysis as a vivid dreamer (i'm an insomniac but when i do sleep i always dream. I can even get up for hours go back to bed and continue the dream from where it finished off) I often interpret my dreams and i have analysed other peoples dreams with great accuracy.

When analysing a dream take note of what you see, what colours, numbers, smells (if you have your other senses working during your sleep) and how you felt. Fear is often something that you need to resolve so next time you have a dream where you are too scared to move or feel an evil presence turn and face it. You will find it is not as bad as you thought and if it still scares you, change it. You have the ability to affect your dreams. They are part of your psyche, there to help you work through unresolved worries, fears hopes etc. In the past it was common place to discuss dreams and work through them but as time moved on it fell by the wayside and now we have a culture where people are more dysfunctional and angry.

Look at the things in your dreams and relate them to what they mean to you. For me the devil in my dreams is not evil he is a welcome guest that helps me resolve issues and make important decisions. God in my dreams is the opposite, he's conniving, ever watchful and just plain creepy. So don't go by what you expect the things or people to represent as their core values to you personally will affect how they behave in your dreams.

Also keep a journal of your dreams, you will soon see patterns emerge for things that crop up and what they mean to you and this will help you to evaluate and analyse your dreams yourself :)

Analyzing dreams, huh? I don't usually remember mine, but the few I do remember.... The one that's easiest to summarize is the Jurassic Park-ish one. There were only three people (my dad, some Native American guide, and me). My dad and the guide were eaten by a T-Rex. Some short time later, I made friends with a pack of compies (compsognathus), the little mini-raptor ones.

As for why I had the dream, that's simple. I went to sleep totally, utterly pissed off at my dad. I don't think I've ever told him about it, but when I told my grandma, she shook her head at me and muttered something. It wasn't flattering, but it wasn't entirely aimed at me, either. ;) My dad has a way of creating family conflicts.

A: First of all, the vast majority of compiled dream interpretation books have tons of bunk you need to wade through if you wish to truly unravel a nightmare that is recurring. I put the garbage part of your interpretation that your dream does not reflect in italics for a reason. Few dreams with cats in them have jack to do with sex drives to be be blunt. Find a Jungian dream interpreter if you wish to get a somewhat valid interpretation of the layers this dream contains. Jung gave multiple archetype information to insure correct ability to interpret many diverse meanings for symbolism that dreams contain.Jung drew from a lot of cultural similarities found in myths and other aspects of the common people, not a couple neurotic aristocrats. Speaking from a fair amount of experience with dream interpretation in old college course that I can still dredge up mentally, my advice is to dump the online dream analysis program you used to try to unravel this dream.

The cat's reactions gives the main clues that you have a very strong subconscious desire to change. Most often this is a desire to go from the state of being used and abused, to a more balanced state of standing up for yourself. Cats actively reflect internal conflicts with one's internal stubbornness most often, not repressed sexuality. I think you read a dream archetype book from a Freudian psychologist because it reads like the bunk Freud used to spout after watching over 5 deeply depressed aristocratic ladies who were prisoners in gilded cages their aristocrat husbands provided. Freud did little interacting with regular society to come up with his everything is sexual sin foundations for modern psychology.

Although pursuit and fleeing an unseen evil does on occasion have validity as avoidance issues, or seeking of an unattainable feeling desire, it can also be internal subconscious pressures completely unrelated to such concepts.

Running from evil can be about suppressed anger that you refuse to unleash on the deserving party who has caused said dark emotions. However, a number of other interpretations seem to apply to your specific images. Evil does not always mean "live." Evil can actively mean that you feel a sense of lost personal control over your own body. Evil is also a reflection of feeling stepped upon by others when one does not know how to set appropriate boundaries with others. Hence, in this aspect, evil is the self destructive tendency that you are afraid to release because of social pressure to be a good area rug for more abusive individuals. Evil in this sense is society's rules, not living your life as per the bunk you were reading, SereneLies.

Furthermore, one aspect this interpretation forgot to factor is the aspect of getting ostracized by society when one refuses to go along with socially expected norms. In this instance, the terror felt as you sit upon your bed, equals a fear of becoming unacceptable by standing up for yourself. The bed is a foundation of guilt in this instance because the image clearly reflects a sense of guilt within the foundation of your personal experience. Again, Freud morons always associate a bed as being sexual, while Jung described it as a foundational belief gained from specific society expectations imbued since our earliest memories were formed as children. Anyway, I think this dream is a reflection of your desire to change your lifestyle, yet having a powerful anxiety that in changing your responses, you will become an outcast.
