Lol how can they not be your property if your writing an original story and the characters have got nothing to do with anybody else's work.
But i did hear that JK Rowling likes people writing fan-fiction about her characters but she doesn't like them being abused like minor/minor pairings or the minor/teacher pairings.
The kid that wrote the fanfiction book and got sued probably abused the characters in a not very nice way.

Yeah i think thats the same system the Gateworld forum uses, they have a 1-5 star rating system for their threads and a reputation system for individual posts that acculmulate in Reputation ranks for the poster.

You'll always get the homophobic freaks that go out of their way to gay-bash, They call homosexuals sickening freaks. But the truth is by doing that they are making themselves what they are putting out. I'm not gay but i hate homophobes with a passion they have absouletly no right what so ever to flame people for writing their personal views.
The only thing i think is morally corrupt and just utterly disgusting is people writing pedophilia not only that its illegal in just about every country across the planet that is developed its just vile and sickening. Just about anything else is perfectly fine to write about. Child abuse and such is only ok in writing if its expressive and actually fits into the theme and not just there for somebodies sick pleasure.

Plagiarism does not have to be a word for word thing. So maybe, I just need an example of you taking someone else's "base theme" and making it your own. Maybe you're trying to describe simply being inspired by one person work and writing something completely different, but just changing a few things is still considered plagiarizing.
Plagiarizing refers to something as small as an idea not just the words you use. So, like I said maybe just need an example of you changing the base theme of someone's work. I was never really good at theme when I was in high school. lol
Well i'm writing stories on vampires and werewolves, its not actually going to really be plagarism if the concepts are adapted and not recognizable as the inital theme. There are plenty of novels that have a theme in common but its not a rip-off because the author has put their own unique thing in and only have a few elements that are around the same thing.
I know for example its plagarism in the confines of taking somebodies plot and not changing much at all, but if you take somebodies plot and make your own original ideas around it and remove the plot that inspired the ideas thats hardly plagarism is it?

I think that's called plagerism. lol If your basing "original fiction" on somthing "you've seen" then it's not original. "Chang[ing] the base idea" of something can be hard for most beginner writers and could resort in them just paraphasing someone else's ideas, which is also plagerism. I wouldn't give this advice to any aspiring writer.
Now, if you meant "If your basing an original [FAN-]fiction on something you've seen..." then I understand the sentence. If you didn't mean that then you just described plagerism.
That's what i mean, I've gotten ideas from other fanfiction and novels i've read and changed them so they aren't recognisable as somebody else's idea because so many others have used a variant of the same base them.
Its only plagerism if you copy somebodies idea and put nothing into it to change the base theme.

Fanfiction is great, it allows people to express their ideas. I have two Stargate Atlantis stories, which i have characters from a friends story and using the cannon characters as well. But nobody seems to be really active at all in the Television section.
I have 3 long ones in the Originals, but of course theres never really such a thing as a truely original idea. The plotlines of such maybe completly original but theres many themes in even original stories that have been adapted or copied from somebody else's ideas.
But if I was to write something completly original based on nothing then it would be annoying to see people who don't have very good talent trashing the ideas.
I do though see fanfiction as creative inspiration because sometimes all it takes is a little bit of fanfiction writing before the writer is able to come up with something more original thats only got a few themes based on something else. If your basing an original fiction on something you've seen the best thing to do is just to change the base idea

I've written 11 Single Chapter stories and have my novel Flaming Desire at 40,000 words with 11 chapters posted and another one coming. Also have the base of another novel posted. Plus a PWP short story that has 3 chapters now, which strangly enough has more hits and almost more reviews then my novel.

I agree. But the way you described the story...lol, well, I'll post what the summary REALLY says about the story, because your description is, uh, well...a little limited. And the work truly recieves due justice.

A college girl is abducted from her life by a gorgeous Fey man, and brought to a realm where the vampiric Lord Delacroix rules, collecting a gallery of women with blue eyes. Can she tame the wild Fey? Or the smoothly refined vampire lord?
I understand at first glance this may seem, well, to be blatantly honesy, a little chick-romancey. And while it has its moments, I am beginning to see a real story here, complete with political dynamics, social boundaries, semantics, and of course, throughout the story the author (who was not named by the above person, but I shall name here, Decadence Refined) implicates odd, but admittedly tantalizing diction and verse. The lines come off the computer screen and my small dorm is suddenly filled with this imaginary world.
It's a small delight, in a sea of trash I am beginning to see at AFF. Has anyone noticed the asshole who posted in all CAPS? On. My. Nerves, I tell ya.

Noble Blood is most probably my favourite story second would be Resident Evil: Ressurection Its a really great story for people who have seen the movie.

Well my long term writing project my first novel is only up to 46K after 2 1/2 months, so I doubt i'd be able to get there. If my writing skills improve i might be able to enter it next year.
Also who says you have to do it all in that month? Just pre-write the novel in an earlier month and then sign up at the start and submit at the end?
