  1. I clicked on my topic to view replies and saw that the replies are hidden. They are listed on the bottom of the original post as a list of links. Now I have to click on a link for each reply to see them. This made it more difficult to follow the collective train of thought, and on top of that each click made a topic hit count go up. I looked at five replies in the same topic and the hit count went from 99 to 103. Is there any way to change settings so the topic replies would be "unrolled" as before? I couldn't do it from my Control Panel, so it's the global board setting then.
  2. We can have both One does not exclude another and new lists can always be created. Sweet Puppy is at over 100000 hits O.O for example. That could go on Over 100000 hits list. It's only 16 chapters long too *brain melts*
  3. The Hall of Fame idea came to me back then, when the forum was structured differently and I was a bit ticked-off about things. The point was that my 1000 and 500 threads didn't really belong anywhere. They were 1)lists and 2)inclusive of all fandoms and originals. They ended up being put into Author Resources > Writers' Corner > Reviews. They are not reviews as such, though. This is more in line with awards and recognition - sort of. The idea was to have something extra on top of lists of favourites or recommended fiction. I'd like to have a list of authors who complete their fics, for example (That was a joke, heh!) This is all water under the bridge right now anyway.
  4. It's a good idea. I like Harry-centric fics, for example, and this would be helpful. On another hand, we are going to end up with this: HP>Het>Hermione>Hermione/Ron HP>Het>Ron>Hermione/Ron Or even more for threesomes and such. So, the same fic would belong in more than one subsubcat. This could work if the fics can be assigned to multiple categories and appear on the "Latest Updated" pages in all.
  5. There was no cross-posting. I don't cross-post, period; not in the forum, not in the archive. The problem back then was the fact that I started a topic and posted a number of entries back to back. Making several entries to one's own post was allowed, but making them in a row, without other users commenting in between, was not. The mod consolidated the entries inside the topic and made minor edits as well. The lists were moved to a different section as well and I had this "Oh! Where did my topics go?" sort of experience. I was so distressed that I actually requested creation of a separate subforum Hall of Fame, which was not approved My list in the archives Lists section was an overwelming positive experience. It just worked. But that was back then. I understand that we have different rules now. Twenty links per entry is not too bad. I could possibly fit the page one of Golden Nuggets in six entries. Turn off the comments and create a separate comment thread. I'll probably sit on this for a while, contemplating what exactly I am going to do with the Nuggets. It needs to be restructured and expanded before making any final decisions. Thank you for your prompt replies.
  6. Actually, I sort of had a bad experience with posting lists on the forum. That was way back, before the current staff took over. I posted 500 reviews club: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/inde...ic=3012&hl= (at least one book from originals is getting published now) and 1000 reviews club: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/inde...ic=3008&hl= Lists like this are very short usually. Posting a few posts in a row in the same topic was against the rules, as I found out. The topics were consolidated by a mod as a compromise. So, they ended up looking a bit different from what I invisioned. And then comments and discussion were mixed in with the list entries. It didn't quite work or looked good. Golden Nuggets was a much longer list, over 100 entries on the page one. The second page was going to be also about that long. The Lists section in the archive looked as a natural home to post this. The review board is separate there, so the list entries do not co-mingle with the comments. I am not quite sure how long lists would work in the forum format, to be honest.
  7. I found this in News: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/inde...?showtopic=6564 This was posted back in April, though, and the Lists section was not mentioned. Right now it's December. Is there any chance to get copies of last reviews at least? I am not asking to restore the deleted Lists section or anything.
  8. This was not a fic search posted in the story section, though. Original - Misc > Lists was a section for the lists specifically. My list was posted in the Lists section and additionally had List, M/M, Yaoi content codes to specify content. I verified this just now and we still have this option for content codes: Language - Foul language (cussing) List - List (a non story) M/F - Heterosexual sexual relationship (Het) As we can see, the lists are allowed. I just can't see how the entire section could disappear into the thin air with no warning. If it was taking so much space, then at least we should be warned and given a chance to save reviews. I had more than ninety six and the last ones were not saved.
  9. I just noticed this: the whole Lists section is completely missing. My list Golden Nuggets is missing. It was located here: http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600092544 What happened? Was this announced? Did I miss the announcement? I do save my reviews periodically. The last time I saved Golden Nuggets', it looked like this: Golden Nuggets. (Original Slash List) This is my personal list of favorites. All Slash stories. You are welcome to review on this and/or recommend some Golden Nuggets of your own. I'll add it to the list if it's my sort of fic:) List, M/M, Yaoi (Continuously updated) Original - Misc > Lists Rated [Adult++] -:- Chapters [1] -:- Published [2007-02-07] -:- Updated [2007-02-07 00:00:00] -:- Edited [2008-04-14] -:- Hits [2899] -:- Reviews [96] -:- Average / Total Vote [+++++ / 7] This was a while ago. I had a few more reviews posted after this save, now they are gone. Is there any way to recover those? AFF does the daily back up at night, so I assume that all info is saved somewhere. This is hugely disappointing. Can't we warn people before mass-deletions?
  10. I was pondering about the reasons behind this impersonation. I mean, why pretend to be someone else, especially someone else who is so well known and admired? Didn't they think that the truth would come out - fast? I mean, this couldn't last, right? And then it dawned on me that, perhaps, this person could possibly be a bit obssessed either with Romaine or the notion of fandom success. Because not too many authors get such overwelming positive response to their stories as DES has. So, here it was, a chance to become Romaine, if only for a few days. This may be a reason why this site was chosen, even though the impostor is not a regular user: the site has high traffic which would guarantee fast reviews for a fake account. They became Romaine and received genuine positive reviews. So, in a creepy sort of way, this was worth it to them. This is so sad. *waves to real Romaine* Congratulations, you've been impersonated. It's you and royalty, heh!
  11. Damn! I've seen it posted and thought: "Oh, finally this fic made it to AFF." It's a good story. Didn't review it only because I have read it on the other sites already. If real Romaine did not post this fic here, then the poster in question is not only a plagiarist but also an impersonator. This is a double edged offense. This deserves Hall of Shame of its own, hehe!
  12. You are right. I just tested it and got the same result. 403 error. I use IE browser. Does this mean that Cake is about to come out? I have to have this book! Autographed, if possible
  13. ^ is absolutely right. The continuous presence of hokuto is a blight upon this site. Plagiarism is not acceptable in any form. I implore AFF's leaders to work with stop plagirism folks and ban the malicious plagiarist asap. Straight to the Hall of Shame.
  14. IPB 2.2 worked! I can see everything now
  15. amaphone - As far as I know, the only way to see someone's email, IM, etc would be if that person put it in their profile. That hokuto person has an empty profile. The only way to contact them would be to leave a review on their review board. You'll have to be logged in in order to do that, therefore you'll have to create an AFF account. Another venue would be to contact AFF owner or a moderator. The list is here: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/inde...mp;CODE=leaders I am not sure if they would share contact info, though. But they could possibly agree to forward your email to hokuto. Can't believe that someone would be dumb enough to plagiarize Josephine Darcy. Especially when HP fandomites are in uproar about her whereabouts. I heart your comm, amaphone
  16. I am not sure if this post will work. I can't look at any topics or profiles, not even my own. All I get is white pages. There is a main page and the view counts on topics are going up after clicking on them, even though all I get is a white page every time. Can't use PM either. I understand that an upgrade was done recently. Can we have some info posted in the News or something? Somethere outside of the forum. Just to let us know what's going on.
  17. JayDee - You're not fooling anyone! But they were dead already! So, technically it's not rape. shinigamiinochi - To me, this banner implies that real people were harmed as a result of me reading non-con fiction. Now I am invited to pay real money to a RL charity organisation to make amends for my sin. As a reward, I'll get access to rape fics specifically written to educate me what horror I caused. This is pretty funny actually! Which site does that? Is it a fan operated one? fanfiction.net has just rewamped their entire interface and added more statisics and polls. They keep reinventing themselves. I know that they pissed off many writers deleting explicit fiction (I am personally pissed about Frizzy). But they seem to be solid and will stay long term. Their ads, however annoying, never made me feel victimized.
  18. DemonGoddess061 - Quite a bit of archive's contents are not my cup of tea either. I do like the fact that it's allowed, though I really appreciate the fact that AFF staff can be above personal likes and dislikes. This is a very mature approach and will only make the site stronger. In retrospect, tech staff doesn't get enough recognition because fixing code happens behind the scenes. I bet it gets frustrating sometimes to hear constant moaning, bitching and complaining and not enough thanks. You guys are an asset to the fandom and I would like to thank all techs on AFF and all other archives as well! Keith Inc. - You are so right on so many levels! However, let's dig deepper into the problem. Now, this is important: In any public library children can find a crossdressing, vore story with elements of grooming a child for consumption called: Little Red Riding Hood. The wikipedia excerpt summs this fic pretty well: ??? Child and elderly abuse? Murder? Red and Grandma emerge out of the wolf's stomach unharmed and alive, as if the wolf's stomach is, in fact, a five star hotel room. If this was any realistic, the most that hunter could of recovered would be half regrugitated body parts. In the room splattered in blood and shit. Age Range: 4 to 8 at B&N This is a root cause of far-fetched adult fanfiction. I insist that someone should do something about this, asap.
  19. Giving money to a charitable organization is a worthy cause. There is no doubt about that. I still cant wrap my mind around entangling this with fanfiction. Just talking about those things in the same page makes it guilty by association. This charity drive actually encourages to write more rape-fics! They accept submissions! But the submitted new stories are supposed to be true to real life. This: And this: What about fics with kidnappings? I am afraid to see an ad for a charity drive for Missed and Exploited Children next. Because Harry was kidnapped and tortured by Death Eaters and he was under 18 (canon, fanon) I don't want to associate with real crimes in reading and writing fanfiction. Also, I am worried that this staff could get mentioned in laymen's publications about fanfiction, linking RL crimes to fanfiction in layperson's minds. Ones this happens, the damage would be nearly impossible to undo. Should we hire a PR person to guard fandom's reputation then?
  20. This banner keeps appearing when I read stories. In fact, it was the first one I saw after logging into the forum. The advert banner is called "The Unheard Screams Charity Drive - helping raise awareness while helping the victims". It is linked to this page: http://www.unfortunateslight.net/unheard_screams/ Helping victims of Abuse, Incest, and Rape is a noble cause, no doubt. How did fanfiction get linked with real rapes, though? Or am I reading this wrong? Ooookay... Does this mean that reading or writing fanfic about such issues is shameful and dirty? Or does this mean that I am supposedly unable to know the difference due to my extreme naivette? I do enjoy slavefics, for example. Does this mean that I support slavery? Don't think so. How about unprotected sex? Should everyone be wearing a condom in every fic? How true to RL does fan and original fiction has to be? Should 100 per cent of all fics be a clinical account of real stories? I am not happy to see fanfiction linked to real life crimes. I do not want hobbyist erotic writers, especially beginners, feel ashamed or unclean about expressing their fantasies, no matter how unrealistic. This is a world of makebelieve, not a support group. Disclaimer: No werewolves or elves were raped during writing of this post.
  21. Guys, I understand that a moderator may not have a personal desire to annonce their status to the archive users. It's just fine for all the "behind the scenes" work like the archive clean-up project. Enforcing site rules is a bit different because: 1) A moderator contacts an individual user 2) That user is told to make changes to their posts 3) Issued warning to the user that their post may be deleted Right now this is being done from regular writing accounts. From the POV of a regular user: I saw those warnings on some author's review boards, the names were not familiar, I clicked on the names to see who posted the warnings. That took me to the author's profiles. Where to go from here? The profiles do not identify the posters as moderators unless the moderator typed it into the bio field. There is no link to the moderator's forum account which would enable people to send PMs No email addresses There is usually an AOL contact. I don't use AOL. Communication should be a two-way deal, where people wouldn't have to post communications with the site moderators to their story review boards. I have high hopes for the new archive software and hope that my suggestions will be considered I am all for improving archive experience of the regular AFF authors. P.S.: Quote DemonGoddess: Actually Ez if you look underneath your forum profile it still states cleanup crew (which you're still part of), and if you look in the board listing for moderators, you are listed with the other archive mods as well. Actually, I can't see any of it. Is it one of those things that can be seen from the mod accounts but not to the average user? Or is there a link I could go to to see that?
  22. I was reading: I Am Very Annoyed, Why don't we have a REASONABLE disclaimer policy? http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/inde...ic=7398&hl= just now and have a few suggestions on the matter of how this disclaimer thing is being handled. First of, I do not take sides with yakaji or AFF staff. This is a neutral opinion of a regular user. I frequent Originals section at AFF and read recent updates. I look at review boards to see what peeps think about stories. "Disclaimer violation" posts started appearing about a week (or two) ago on fic's review boards. Naturally, I looked at who was posting them. Ezri-Candy's profile, for example, has no mention of her being a moderator. Her forum profile names her Member. She is not on The Moderating Team list at the forum either. I suggest that moderators should use an official profile for such posts (Like TOS_TEAM one or similar). Or a profile named ARCHIVE_MODERATOR, which could be used for official business by all mods. I don't mind when people use their writing accounts for making official mod posts, but this should be done only if it acknowledges them as moderators in the purple field (not the bio! anyone can name themselves "a moderator" and start posting across all boards just to troll) At the very least, there should be an official reference list to verify who is legit. Another suggestion is not as technical, but still important. Some "Disclaimer violation" posts are simply huge. Right now I am looking at the review board with three one-liner real reviews and a single HUGE Violation post. This looks pretty bad and, to my understanding, causes a lot of negative feelings in authors. A few days ago I saw a review board of a new author with a Single Large DV post in it. The worst thing about it is the fact that the new author had mistakenly posted their fanfic in the Originals section and needed help to put it in the right archive. They asked for help! and got a DV post instead. So, the suggestion is to write a more "sensitive" and short DV post it using an ARCHIVE_MODERATOR account. P.S. I do understand why we need disclaimers (especially in light of current legal happenings in US) and the request to have them is not an issue. It's the implementation what bothers me.
  23. It used to be on one page. Now it's all separated. Would there be a single page with all shortcuts? Because I used to go to about 1/3 of Original subsections and now a part of them is at Original-Misc and the others are on the different page.
  24. Where did Vampire section go? And Fantasy and DarkFic?
  25. Hi Entrisic, where ever did you go? Miss your excellent story and keep wondering what happened. Drop by my LJ if you have time :)
