  1. No sleep at all last night, 6 hours in the emergency ward because of my mum falling ill, and my favourite author, Sir Terry Pratchett, dies. Not been a good day.

::hugs:: It certainly can, but we do the best we can for them.

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

      How's your mum doing?

    4. Melrick

      Melrick

Doing better than she was. But the older a person gets, the harder illnesses hit them and the longer it takes for them to bounce back.

  2. Note to self: If you're going to be waiting to chat with someone on MSN, you might want to try actually turning it on first.

    1. BronxWench

      BronxWench

Oh, dear, I hate when I do that.

  3. Oh it's 110F outside? I hadn't noticed. #sarcasm

I really would swap with you... We're having a very brief flirtation with the upper 40s and then it's back to cold again.

      DemonGoddess

      I'd rather keep the cold....

  4. Oh my god, I survived! I survived this record breaking heatwave!

Ya mean you're not REALLY a puddle of melted goo??

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

We were above the freezing mark today. I was nearly delirious and shed my coat. It's pathetic when 42F feels like a heat wave...

    4. Melrick

      Melrick

No more pillows and sheets drenched with sweat. Yippee!

  5. One odd thing that's only recently occured to me... since my dad died in March, I feel guilty about still being alive.

    1. BronxWench

      BronxWench

That's a normal part of the process of grieving. But speaking as a parent, as much as I hate knowing that my children will mourn for me one day, that is far better than my outliving them. I'm not sure I could bear it. I nearly lost my daughter a year and a half ago, and I'm still reeling from that.

  6. Overheard from my mum out the front: “DIE ya bugger!” Either that was a Jehovah Witness or a cockroach.

Mine as well. At least it's legal to kill the cockroach.

Half of my family are Witnesses. Just imagine getting the recruitment speech every single visit... oh and they get more zealous with family

  7. Picked up my cost-free rental car for the duration of my car being repaired. I shall now assume the use of breaks is optional.

      lol Duly noted.

    3. BronxWench

I take frequent breaks myself. The use of brakes is, however, always discretionary. :D

    4. Melrick

      Melrick

lol It's a nice car, apart from the uncomfortable seats, which are pretty standard in modern cars for some reason.

  8. Quote of the day: And the Lord said unto John, "Come forth and receive eternal life." but John came fifth and won a toaster.

Just one last thing before you go, Mr Falk...

  11. Saw a young 20's couple sitting at a table at an eatery, each with their phone in their hands, silently typing away. Really? That's what society has decended to, where people can't have face to face conversations anymore? Wouldn't be surprised if they were texting each other.

    1. BronxWench

      BronxWench

I put my phone on vibrate when I'm out, stuff it in my purse, and ignore the vibrating purse. I don't go out to type (unless you count writing at the pool).

    2. Danyealle

      Danyealle

it's the current mentality. How many of the obnoxious people will be talking to you but the second the phone rings they take that and ignore you.

My aunt and uncle who are in their 60s txt each other from across the dinner table.

*hugs and cookies* good to hear that, Melrick. I'll keep you guys in my thoughts.

Melrick, that's always good to hear. Let's hope it continues!

      Melrick

Thanks everyone. More good days to follow, I hope.

  13. So I found out yesterday that my dad doesn't have cancer, which is good. I find out today, though, that my cat has undersized kidneys, which is bad. If it's not one thing, it's another. Sheesh!

    2. ApolloImperium

      ApolloImperium

SK has the right of it - Some of your cats symptoms will most likely be the same as renal failure if they are undersized and can't filter as much as a regular kidney

    3. Melrick

      Melrick

Thankfully, he's not at the stage where his kidneys are failing. They're smaller than they should be, but that's it for now. He's now stopped eating the dry cat food you buy from supermarkets because they ALL actually cause cat kidneys to shrink. So he's now on the fancy, expensive sort you can only buy from vets and pet supply places. They actually help the kidneys.

      ApolloImperium

Ohh, no no no...Yea, this is why we should talk - Sent you a PM :D

  14. So THAT'S what Milk Duds are! And I just found out what Baby Ruth, Butterfingers and 3 Musketeers chocolate bars taste like.

      Peanut butter M&Ms. :D

  15. So we have to wait another fucking month to find out if my dad has cancer? God fucking damn it I hate doctors!

btw, we do have Sprite here, but Sprite is just a brand of lemonade.

    3. RogueMudblood

      RogueMudblood

Wow! No homemade lemonade.... So no 10 pence stands near your house, I'll wager, huh? :)

    4. Melrick

      Melrick

We don't use pence in Australia, but no, I've never seen or even heard of that happening here. lol

  17. So, for the rest of my mum's life, any time she gets sick - no matter how mild - I'm going to get horrendously stressed, yes? Yup, that's what I thought.

I'm sorry for it, Melrick, but I know from experience that these kinds of reactions can't be "logicked" away, and it's very frustrating. I have a couple of practical tips for when you are stressed though. If you look up when you breathe, it will open your airways and you'll get more oxygen, which may help to calm you. Also, cross your arms over your body and stroke the outer edge of your upper arms with your fingertips - it's very calming and comforting. I hope tho...

    4. Melrick

      Melrick

I'll try it. Hopefully it'll help to some degree.

Happy new year to you both, too.

    4. DemonGoddess

      DemonGoddess

Agree with all of the above! Happy New Year!

  19. So, let me get this straight. 3 Aussie soldiers were killed by one of the Afghan soldiers they were training... again. I wonder how many times this will have to happen before they say "screw this" and bring them home?

  20. So, today 2 family members come to stay at our tiny little house, sleeping on the floor. Trust me when I say that the next 2 weeks are going to be A. Living. Hell. I really don't want to be here.

I know teens here, and grown ups too, who think it's boring to read... I nearly beat the living daylights out of the girls who said that to me, with my one volume, hardcover Lord of the Rings...

  22. Spam email I received: "Help your meat-stick become more staying!". Finally, someone genuinely concerned about my meat-stick!

  23. Spending an entire day sitting or standing in an emergency ward isn't as much fun as it sounds.

    2. RogueMudblood

      RogueMudblood

Having been in the emergency room - on both sides of that equation - it doesn't sound like fun at all. 'M sorry.

  24. Still sad about Robin Williams. Life was happier with his presence, sadder with his absence.

  25. Thanks for your kind words on my profile. :-)
